to tell my landlord that I would look into paying the rent and get back to them?

and then not.

and then when they phoned again, tell them that I was going to write a cheque and I'd probably post it within the next week.

and then not.

And then when they phoned again, tell them that my husband dealt with cheques, but only monday -wednesday, so he'd have to do it next week

And then when they phoned again - and by this time three weeks have gone past - tell them that I am going to write a cheque, but it won't be till next week and then it will take a week to get posted.

??

What? Not reasonable, you say?

Then WHY DOES MY LANDLORD THINK IT'S REASONABLE TO HOLD ONTO £500 OVERPAYMENT FROM ME?!!!!!!

grrrrrrrr

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 09:44

Thank you! Your posts are very clear Tee.

Tee2072 · 21/07/2012 09:45

So was Hec's. Grin

ElephantsCanRemember · 21/07/2012 09:46

The OP couldn't have been more clear than if she had stamped it on on your forehead backwards so you could read it in the mirror Grin

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 21/07/2012 09:46

unfortunate that it does not come straight to you and annoying that it has happened so not BU to be pissed off.

however as it is not actually your money but the LAs money and you would not have been entitled to it had you not claimed HB, YB a tiny B U to want this £500 in your hand in a lump sum. I personaly would just be patient and let them proccess it. It is £500 for the purpose of rent so as long as its being used for rent it does not matter if its £50 a month for 10 weeks or £5 a month for 100 weeks.

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 09:46

Disagree :o

Tee2072 · 21/07/2012 09:50

::head desk::

That one was for EnthusiasticTroll, in case there was any doubt.

Fireandashes · 21/07/2012 09:56

This thread is living proof that if you hand some people the stick the right way round, they'll still get hold of the wrong end.

Hope the moment ripens for you promptly, OP.

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 10:00

As I seem to understand you Tee, please tell me if I have got this right so that I can get on with my day and forget all about the OP's £500
OP was paying full rent herself, applied for HB, granted HB, was told HB was going to be backdated, wants landlord to give her £500 because when backdated HB arrives in landlord's bank account he will have been overpaid.
Is this correct?

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 10:03

This thread is living proof that if you hand some people the stick the right way round, they'll still get hold of the wrong end.
Or, when people are handed the stick the wrong way round, they get hold of the wrong end.

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 10:03

:o

Trills · 21/07/2012 10:04

YABU because you have posted the question in a misleading and confusing way.

Your title is at odds with the question you want answered.

Maybe you'd get more advice of the sort you are after posting in the property topic

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 10:06

Oh Trills I love you.

HecateHarshPants · 21/07/2012 10:09

nope. was paying full rent while HB claim was being processed. HB claim now processed. Housing association HAS BEEN PAID BACKDATED HB, it is in their account and they know what the HB amount is going to continue to be. Backdated HB + my paying full rent = £500 overpaid by me (full rent - HB)

The rent that I am to pay is full rent - HB. I have paid full rent. Therefore I have paid more than I am required to pay.

There is nothing wrong with asking the HB people to look at your income and decide if you are entitled to some help with your rent Grin If they say you are, then they help you. While they were deciding this, I paid full rent - which nearly crippled us so I was very grateful for their decision!

But, I accept, I am dirty scum for claiming HB in the first place.

Damn my low income and my disabled children. Thank god I have my 50inch flat screen tv or I'd have nothing left to live for.

TEE why are you hitting your head on the desk?

HecateHarshPants · 21/07/2012 10:13

Trills, I was genuinely surprised to learn that my OP was not crystal clear. And I have already apologised for that.

ElephantsCanRemember · 21/07/2012 10:13

But Hecate Do you have a goat? Grin

ElephantsCanRemember · 21/07/2012 10:14

Hecate Your post was crystal clear to those that can read properly

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 10:15

Who says you are dirty scum for claiming HB? Am I not reading this properly again? So they owe you £500 because they have taken the money twice. They want to knock it off your contribution monthly? You would prefer it in full? I would feel the same.

TheBigJessie · 21/07/2012 10:16

Nah, you're dirty scum, because only your husband can write cheques. Get a joint account and a chequebook yourself.

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 21/07/2012 10:16

i dont think you are scum for claiming hb but I think you are UR for wanting it as a lump sum in your hand, same thing happens when ever a hb claim is made, mine is paid directly to me, I never got a full lump sum in my hand as underpayment to cover the back dated period, it was paid over about 2 or 3 months.

bamboobutton · 21/07/2012 10:17

yanbu. landlords + money = yannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnneverbu!!

and even I, who is beyond shattered, who has suspected fibro and has a head full of fibro fog, could see the point hecate was making by the end of the first few sentances.

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 10:18

Having said that, it takes months for HA/ landlords to write cheques.

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 21/07/2012 10:18

your post was clear to me, I just dont agree Grin

HecateHarshPants · 21/07/2012 10:18

Grin I do. I drag it round town on a bit of rope while I shuffle round the streets in my sackcloth and ashes, ringing my bell Grin

I am not going to plead for forgiveness for asking for a bit of help. I have worked 2 jobs while my husband worked 3 and we've paid massive amounts of tax. We have run a business and paid tens of thousands into the system. We are starting up again and our income is currently pitiful. I am asking for help. When things improve, I will once again be paying more and more into the system and feeling like I can hold my head up again.
