to tell my landlord that I would look into paying the rent and get back to them?

and then not.

and then when they phoned again, tell them that I was going to write a cheque and I'd probably post it within the next week.

and then not.

And then when they phoned again, tell them that my husband dealt with cheques, but only monday -wednesday, so he'd have to do it next week

And then when they phoned again - and by this time three weeks have gone past - tell them that I am going to write a cheque, but it won't be till next week and then it will take a week to get posted.

??

What? Not reasonable, you say?

Then WHY DOES MY LANDLORD THINK IT'S REASONABLE TO HOLD ONTO £500 OVERPAYMENT FROM ME?!!!!!!

grrrrrrrr

Have they definitely received the £500? They may just have a letter saying they will receive it...then have to wait for HB monthly cheque run, then you have to wait for HA monthly cheque run.

Cos noone would be in a rush for that kind of money obviously. (not)

Tee2072 · 21/07/2012 08:45

It's not a sense of humour serum we need around here but a 'read the fucking entire OP' serum.

Along with a 'if the thread is too fucking long to read the whole thing, don't bother to read it at all' serum.

I got what you meant, Hec. Grin

Sighingagain · 21/07/2012 08:49

no. Goes straight to the housing association. I think HB goes directly to tenant if you are a private tenant, but mine goes straight to the housing association

Govt looking after itself there.

ElephantsCanRemember · 21/07/2012 08:50

'read the fucking entire OP'

^^This.

ChasingSquirrels · 21/07/2012 08:50

But if the HB is only £50 pm then your next rent bill which you have to pay is presumably more than the £500 due, so just knock it all off your rent.

Has the HB been paid to the landlord (which is what I am reading from your posts) or are you waiting for them to pay it over?

HecateHarshPants · 21/07/2012 08:54

No, it's already been paid. I have a £500 credit on my rent. Which they are in the process of sending to me. "In the fullness of time. At the appropriate juncture. When the moment is ripe. When the necessary procedures have been completed?"

Grin

anyway. kids demand attention and my family is coming over this afternoon, so better get off and do something productive Grin

Thanks for the listening ear and the light broiling Wink

If you are sure that the HA have received it then just reduce your next rent payment by £500. Job done.

ElephantsCanRemember · 21/07/2012 08:57

When the moment is ripe

Well there you go then. The moment is not yet ripe. Tsk at people wanting what is rightfully theirs before ripening has occured. Grin

dottyspotty2 · 21/07/2012 08:59

She said it was £50 a week not month thats £200 a month lot of money they owe her the money why should they back down on a promise to repay it that would come in handy especially in summer months when I presume her kids are off school.

Wow reading comprehension levels can be very poor in Aibu! Yanbu.

schoolgovernor · 21/07/2012 09:11

Stop ringing them and put something in writing. Send them a letter and a clear statement of the financial situation as you see it. Do the sums for them and then tell them when you will re-start paying rent after the credit has run out.
You need to start doing something that gives evidence of your actions and stop mucking about.

She doesn't want to stop paying rent she wants HER MONEY back as promised.

DaisySteiner · 21/07/2012 09:17

Technically speaking, aren't they committing housing benefit fraud by receiving HB whilst charging you full rent?

diddl · 21/07/2012 09:18

Well I think it depends how much the rent is as to whether it´s "worth" getting the money back.

If OP would get the 500 pack to pay it out again a couple of days later for example...

TheBigJessie · 21/07/2012 09:18

I could see the point the OP was making by line 3!

Hecate, HA are totally unreaasonable, but it's either accounting procedures, or someone being incompetent.

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 09:30

nah, like I say, onus is always on OP to make sure they are clear. If you aren't clear to everyone - then you weren't clear.
True.

ElephantsCanRemember · 21/07/2012 09:33

nah, like I say, onus is always on OP to make sure they are clear. If you aren't clear to everyone - then you weren't clear.

No, because you can't cater for everyone all the time. If 1 person can't see an OP in the same way as everyone else then surely the onus is on them to look at how and why they read a thread a certain way.

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 09:38

Elephants I think you'd find that more than 1 person didn't get it first time round if you were to read the thread properly.

ElephantsCanRemember · 21/07/2012 09:38

Was that at me Tee?

Tee2072 · 21/07/2012 09:40

No, Kitty, Elephant. I agree with you!

Kitty that's because none of them actually read the fucking OP!!!

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 09:40

No, I'm sure it was aimed at me! :o

Tee2072 · 21/07/2012 09:41

I said that vaguely. It was at Kitty, Elephant. I agree with you, Elephant.
