to tell my landlord that I would look into paying the rent and get back to them?

and then not.

and then when they phoned again, tell them that I was going to write a cheque and I'd probably post it within the next week.

and then not.

And then when they phoned again, tell them that my husband dealt with cheques, but only monday -wednesday, so he'd have to do it next week

And then when they phoned again - and by this time three weeks have gone past - tell them that I am going to write a cheque, but it won't be till next week and then it will take a week to get posted.

??

What? Not reasonable, you say?

Then WHY DOES MY LANDLORD THINK IT'S REASONABLE TO HOLD ONTO £500 OVERPAYMENT FROM ME?!!!!!!

grrrrrrrr

Kitty op said at the end of first post it was lanlord not her read it properly.

libelulle · 21/07/2012 08:20

Er, only if you don't read the post properly kitty!

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 08:21

Nope. Not clear. Sorry.

ChunkyPickle · 21/07/2012 08:21

Came across loud and clear to those with a sense of humour

3 weeks though - TBH that's about par for the course with companies who like doing things on monthly runs... I reckon it'll actually take 3 months (they'll forget it on the first run, then almost do it on the second - but someone will have forgotten to sign something, then they'll finally get it on the third pass)

ElephantsCanRemember · 21/07/2012 08:21

You were obviously too subtle in your OP Hecate. The bit where you admitted it would be unreasonable to behave that way has clearly passed some people by.

shrinkingnora · 21/07/2012 08:24

The OP couldn't have been clearer. Hope you get your money soon.

Cloudbase · 21/07/2012 08:24

Hecate

YANBU and your Landlord is an arse

HecateHarshPants · 21/07/2012 08:25

oh well, sorry about that Kitty. Never mind, eh? all cleared up now. And I know to make double sure that I spell things out ultraclearly in future so there's no room for misunderstanding. The onus is on the OP to ensure that they communicate clearly, after all. Lesson learned. Beating taken slightly worryingly eagerly Grin

Monthly run thing makes sense. Although if it takes three months I'll go on the rampage in their office.

that is a joke that is a joke that is a joke that is a joke

Fuck me, AIBU has got off to a very unreasonable start!

Nice one, Hecate Grin

I think you should knock £500 off your next payment, btw. When their very slow accounts are done, it'll balance out. If they send a cheque before they've done the accounts, you can cross it our and send it back :)

ChuckUFarley · 21/07/2012 08:25

I'm going to make a sense of humour serum, bottle it and sell it. I'll advertise on MN and I'll be fucking loaded

For what it's worth, yanbu.

MelodyPondering · 21/07/2012 08:26

I don't understand how anyone could not understand the first post?!

YANBU and I second contacting your local Cllr.

diddl · 21/07/2012 08:27

It´s absolutely clear to me too.

I agree that not paying rent until the overpayment is used would seem the obvious thing to do.

YANBU to withhold rent-surely if you are in credit, then you wouldn´t be withholding/in debt?

KittyFane1 · 21/07/2012 08:28

oh well, sorry about that Kitty
No problem.

dottyspotty2 · 21/07/2012 08:28

Maybe Kitty's not had enough caffiene to wake herself up properly as it was clear as anything to me and everyone else for that matter, YANBU Hecate.

squeakytoy · 21/07/2012 08:31

Well it reads very clearly to me! :)

And I dont think YABU either.

Dawndonna · 21/07/2012 08:31

Perfectly clear.
YANBU.
I'm with those that say don't pay next months rent.

MyDogShitsMoney · 21/07/2012 08:34

Waaaaay too early for snarkiness! (clearly also too early for reading for some people Confused )

Hec of course YANBU.

It pisses me off that companies can get away with shit like this.

Surely it's pretty fucking obvious that not many people living in an HA house have a spare £500 knocking around.

I've had it up to here with bloody LL's at the moment Angry

("I feel sorry for your Landlord" - that's you told Grin )

ScarlettInSpace · 21/07/2012 08:34

Ring them and tell them that despite you ringing them you need to check they are actually them, then put them on hold for 5 minutes while you check their details Grin

Love the bit about your husband only signing cheques Mon to Weds btw Smile

HecateHarshPants · 21/07/2012 08:35

Grin me neither, dotty. Probably why I didn't make it so clear that there was no possibility of anyone getting the wrong end of the stick.

nah, like I say, onus is always on OP to make sure they are clear. If you aren't clear to everyone - then you weren't clear. I assumed that everyone would get the post, maybe even laugh a bit at the way it was worded, they didn't. I should have worded it in a way that left no room at all for doubt. Maybe "I am not doing this to them, they are doing it to me, if I did it to them, it would be a problem, wouldn't it" or something.

OP posts:
HecateHarshPants · 21/07/2012 08:36

Grin scarlett.

oh no, spare £500 lying all over the place, MyDog. Wiping my arse with £20s don't you know Grin

OP posts:
COCKadoodledooo · 21/07/2012 08:37

I don't understand - does your hb not get paid directly to you?

MyDogShitsMoney · 21/07/2012 08:39

I can send the dog round if that would help Wink

HecateHarshPants · 21/07/2012 08:39

no. Goes straight to the housing association. I think HB goes directly to tenant if you are a private tenant, but mine goes straight to the housing association

OP posts:
HecateHarshPants · 21/07/2012 08:40

oh yes please. Grin

OP posts:
dottyspotty2 · 21/07/2012 08:40

COCKadoodle think its if your landlords a private landlord it gets paid direct LA/HA get paid direct to them
