To be getting increasingly irritated by tattoos?

I apologise in advance if I offend anyone with tattoos....Don't get me wrong, I am not anti-tattoo and I believe anyone who wants one should go right ahead but on the other hand there seems to have recently been a HUGE increase in the (imo) rather tackier end of the tattoo styles: kids' names and/or dates, side-of-the-wrist patterns (a la Cheryl Cole), three 3 black stars on the back of the neck,etc,etc...

I saw a woman the other day in fairly good area of a city with - I kid you not - one child's name and what I presume to be their respective dates of birth on her boobs - one name/date per boob right above the bra cup level!
On holiday recently the pool/beach/sunlounger areas were awash with names/dates of birth, etc on display everywhere and literally every 2nd or 3rd parent in the playground is sporting one and/or one of the aforementioned examples above and I cant help but feel they are becoming common and/or tacky ...(trying to avoid using the chav word)

I've just laughed my ass off at the one in that Poke link 'If you're not part of the solution you're part of the precipitate'

Chemistry jokes rock Grin

I think crappy tattoos are great, it's like self branding to warn others how much of an idiot they are. Saves having to talk to people to find out whether you have anything in common;

Childrens' names emblazoned across chest.... nope, not my type of person, not need to engage. Saves time.

We spent Christmas in Fuerteventura and we were definitely the only British people in the resort without tattoos. I despise them. They are not art.

droves · 18/07/2012 14:50

Rachel ,It's down to personal taste .

I didn't get into a relationship with an overly tattooed person . If I had found that attractive then I would have . It's not my thing.
I don't mind a little , the right one can look nice . But too many looks dirty IMO .

hectorthestandbyhawk · 18/07/2012 14:53

I do like this one though: here

I have 3 tattoos, none of which can be seen when I am clothed. The first one was a mistake, and is meaningless, but the other two meant something at the time and I don't regret them.

DH hates tattoos. He cannot abide them on men or women, but mine don't bother him because only he can see them! He always said he would never have one and hated the thought of his daughters ever having one.

However, last summer on holiday we all had henna tattoos done, including DD (we won them in a game, otherwise DH would never have considered it).

DD had her name and some stars and flowers on her leg, I had a typical flower pattern across my ankle and foot and DH had DD's name written in Arabic on his inner arm...Something strange happened - he liked it!

It looked fab. DD's name is very 'pretty' in Arabic and flowed really well. He seriously considered getting it done for real, and went as far as to go to a Tattooist...who managed to put him off simply by letting him watch someone elses tattoo being done.

My husband is such a wuss!

OhThisIsJustGrape · 18/07/2012 15:19

I saw a lady at the weekend with a fabulous Hmm tattoo on her inner wrist.

It was a meerkat.

I couldn't get close enough to see if it was wearing a cravat, unfortunately Grin

I love the time saving idea, other people tattoos dont offecnd me, it's their body they can do what they want with it!

TheCraicDealer · 18/07/2012 15:39

WTAF?! I've never had a tat, but I've seen enough LA Ink in my time to realise they show you the fucking transfer before you commit!

A guy in DP's work has a giraffe going down his back. I would love to know what that symbolises.

UnChartered · 18/07/2012 15:40

I always wonder with these symbols if they mean what they say on them

UnChartered · 18/07/2012 16:04

TheCraicDealer · 18/07/2012 16:04

I also worked with a woman whose sister got a tattoo on her boob of an elephant drinking champers with "2000" under it for the millennium. Apparently bubbles were coming out of its trunk and everything. I have no idea how the millennium and elephants are connected.

squoosh · 18/07/2012 16:10

People got very excited about the Millennium didn't they! Grin

Would be a bit like carrying a deflated party balloon around with you.

Rachel130690 · 18/07/2012 16:13

mrsjay I've Chinese on my wrist and did think about it before, but I took the drawing to a Chinese takeaway and asked them what it said and it was correct. I wouldn't of took the chance.

My friend thought she was getting the name Colin in Arabic but it actually reads coffin. (think its spelt right) lol I couldn't stop laughing..
