To think that society should support women to have children early in adult life

Babies born to older mothers have a higher risk of special needs, it is harder to concieve after 35 and there are more likely to be complications with giving birth and pregnancy. It is far easier to give get pregnant and birth at 25 than 40.

Unfortunately women are under huge pressure to put off childbearing until their late thirties because its very hard to build a career after children. I feel that there should be more help for mothers returning to the workplace after children and stronger legistation to combat age discrimination. Ie apprenticeships should be open to mothers returning/ starting out in the work place as well as under 25s. I would like more help to allow mothers to have career breaks and return to the work place.

Surely its easier to change the attitudes of employers than basic biology. (Ie. its far easier to have a challenging career starting in your 40s than to start a family.

Yabu, many women don't want to have babies while young. I wouldn't have felt at all ready for the enormous life long responsibility of deciding to become a parent. When I was out of university I WANTED to have fun, a carefree lifestyle while also getting my career off the ground. I would hate seeing women pressurised into giving birth early. The physical aspect is only one side anyway. The emotional aspect of raising kids is far greater IMO

The OP is not suggesting that all women should or do want to have women at any specific age or 'while young', but saying that perhaps there should be more support for those women who do want to have children in e.g. their early 20s. The OP is not saying that women who want to wait until they are older before having children are not completely entitled to do so.

Why all the stuff about SN and age related infertility if the op wasn't suggesting women should have babies earlier then? Her op seems to clearly opine that older motherhood is not a great thing.
