to find these FB status updates totally nauseating

just seen one celebrating an anniversary along the lines of "8 Happy Years today, go team us yay..! 12 years of love, 8 of marriage, we have done pretty well. Love you X"

Is is just me or are these totally nauseating....along the lines of hey everyone look how happy we are and how wonderful our life is.

I am probably going to get strung up as some miserable cow but just not sure why people feel the need to announce this stuff...wouldn't you celebrate this with your partner privately rather than pass on your love and congratulations via FB?

MackerelOfFact, I think we must have the same person on FB.

I made a status about our anniversary. Wasn't a soppy one. Wasn't even on the day. It was something like "9 years and I haven't, yet, been done for murder. That's something worth celebrating the weekend at the very least!"

I also posted more pictures on there than I had planned of DS after he was born, as my friends kept moaning at me that I wasn't posting enough to keep their broodiness ticking over.

I also post on my friends walls sometimes, as the area where one lives in has absolute shite reception and it has been known for her to get a text I sent a whole month after I sent it which is no use if it's plans for the weekend. I do only post on there after texting her and not getting a reply for a few hours though.

Apart from that, I barely even put up a status. Maybe one or two a week, so not sure whether I piss anyone off or not, and quite frankly, I don't give two shits.

The only thing that does my head in, is when others complain on and on and on about their health. Not so much the bad things, but say a migraine. And post about 10 posts about it within 2 hours because they haven't had enough sympathy. Maybe if they got off Facebook, and lay down in a quiet, dark room then I would have sympathy. Complaining of a migraine yet being able to stare at a bright screen, read words on that screen and be able to type? Sorry, but I shall be thinking "Bullshit".

Agree with OP.

Won't be any lovey dovey status's from me today as I was banned yesterday off fb for 24hrs for showing a pic of a bum

Was oh bum and a bloody nice one Grin

Soul2Soul · 18/07/2012 18:34

I left FB because an ex colleague kept posting endless 'Guess what tragedy has befallen today?' type posts.

"Life can be so cruel"
"He said No..."
"I've made the decision
"Only someone who has been can understand the pain...'

etc etc

The thing is, i worked with her and chatted to her daily, so knew that this was all about her ongoing search for a boyfriend. Her posts would all be followed by pages of random people (she had about 6 squillion friends) posting supportive 'hugs' and calling her 'hun" and sending her e-flowers and telling her how brave she was and, (I suspect this was the point) saying 'Oooh, what's happened??

She was quite sweet really, if completely and utterly a bit needy, and i didn't have the heart to defriend her, so i just shut up the account in the end.

fb makes you hate your friends

true.

QueenMaeve · 18/07/2012 19:59

yanbu. besides the fact that my dh wouldn't know what social networking is, I would assume I could verbally wish him a happy anniversary

ontesterhooks · 18/07/2012 20:32

Yanbu I seem to be inflicted with a large percentage of friends spouses ( both female and perhaps more scarily male) who write just this type of bokey drivel! Weirdest yet - happy anniversary to my wife she is the best because she loves Jesus !

waitingforgodot · 19/07/2012 09:47

"post this if you love your kids more than life itself".
Why oh why do people feel the need to do that.
