to find these FB status updates totally nauseating

just seen one celebrating an anniversary along the lines of "8 Happy Years today, go team us yay..! 12 years of love, 8 of marriage, we have done pretty well. Love you X"

Is is just me or are these totally nauseating....along the lines of hey everyone look how happy we are and how wonderful our life is.

I am probably going to get strung up as some miserable cow but just not sure why people feel the need to announce this stuff...wouldn't you celebrate this with your partner privately rather than pass on your love and congratulations via FB?

OP posts:
stifnstav · 16/07/2012 14:15

I am agog when people put stuff like "two more sleeps till we go on holiday to (wherever) for three whole weeks!!"

I've started commenting with "pleaserobme.com"

Jins · 16/07/2012 14:19

What DuelingFanjo said

Either that or let the rest of us Facebook users know exactly what we are allowed to put in our status updates.

paradisechick · 16/07/2012 14:21

On our ten year my dh posted something along the lines of 'would have got less for murder'. Does that count?

DuelingFanjo · 16/07/2012 14:25

""

absolutely Jins.

All these people coming along and expecting facebook to conform to their norms rather than putting in the effort to tailor their own facebook settings so they are less stressy. Poor wee things Grin

BelieveInPink · 16/07/2012 14:31

Just this second:

Elton* is a clever boy telling me when he is having a poo.

*Name changed to protect dignity. Elton is about 3 months old.

cuntflapwankbadger · 16/07/2012 14:32

Quite a lot of us have stated what we hate and that we hide these people so I am quite Confused by statements about settings?

BlablaSos · 16/07/2012 14:32

People probably get annoyed with me posting pics and updates about my baby. Its just about updating friends on what you're up to. If you're not interested then just scroll through or remove.

confusedpixie · 16/07/2012 14:33

I second the x's used as punctuation part! I hate it! on another forum I got snappy at a girl who was pissing me off about her use of x's every second word. I block anyone who does things like that on my facebook usually, only I've is still in my friends and that's because he's a cousin.

I am guilty of the 'dp is cooking a lovely roast' type statuses, he cooks most of the time but I love his roasts. And his brownies. And will boast to the world about them as they are amazing Wink

Creamtea1 · 16/07/2012 14:34

This thread is brill.
The ones where 'having a fantastic meal out/date/day with hubby/family/etc' are SO tempting to reply 'no you're not, it can't be that good if you're on Facebook' - one day I will find the courage to do that...
Also agree with fuck off re shades of grey, school reports, bragging, declarations of love, x sleeps till x (that's a different thread from yesterday)

ThisWeekonFancyPuffin · 16/07/2012 14:36

People that change their names on Facebook make me stabby. I have a;

XXXX 'Princess' XXXX
XXXX 'Lovesbeingamummy' XXXX
XXXX '

Paiviaso · 16/07/2012 14:41

YANBU

They are not really dedicated to the recipient. They are to show off.

Your DH lives with you and you will see him all day, why are telling him on Facebook?

Your children cannot read or use a computer, why are you telling them on Facebook?

etc etc etc

Secret7 · 16/07/2012 14:45

You're a misery. Just like me Grin

I can certainly categorise my FB friends by the type of status updates they post. Updates proclaiming love for DH and DC are nausiating BUT one friend had quite a tough childhood with a dad who drank and hit her mum, not much money etc. It must have been awful for her so when she makes lovey dovey status updates about her fab children and what they are doing I do understand why she is so grateful.

shockers · 16/07/2012 14:46

I've committed more than one of the fb sins listed on here!!

I consider myself chastised and will try harder in future to contain my joy Grin.

ISpilledPoo · 16/07/2012 14:50

My two pet hates on Facebook are:
1 - People who post pictures of sad looking things, with a message that says something like "Hit LIKE if you are against child abuse" or "SHARE if you think beating animals with sticks is bad". I mean, come on.....

2 - People who post music video after fucking music video from YouTube, with comments like "great tune" or "this takes me back".

I don't mind the odd one, but I know people who do 10-15 in a row. Every day.

thekidsrule · 16/07/2012 14:56

op this is exactly why i de activate my account 2-3 times a year it does my head in

after a month my nose gets the better of me and i go back on line

i hardly post anything but can resist the noseness

the ones that roll my eyes are the ones that say "i love my kids more than anything, their my world blah bla bla,"oh yes ur kids that the grandparents have every weekend so you can go out and get of your face, and dont spend much time or do anything when with you

thing is when ive had a clearout because i really dont see or talk to them they get the right hump

YANBU. I have a friend who did monthly wedding anniversary updates for ages. She also describes her organic/locally sourced/self-grown dinner every evening.

BelieveInPink · 16/07/2012 16:38

Just thought of another one. Someone on my list is doing daily, yes, DAILY countdowns for her holiday. She started 460 days (ish) before it was due. I think we're down to 129 days or something so soon it will all be over and I will be left feeling empty. As will her house after it's been burgled.

DuelingFanjo · 16/07/2012 16:48

so you have let it irritate you for more than 300 days!

You know you can fiddle with your settings and exclude her updates?

OAM2009 · 16/07/2012 16:55

I LOVE hearing about people who are having fab, fun nights out while I stay in every night for the foreseeable future. It's great to know they are having such wonderful, interesting, fulfilling lives.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 16/07/2012 16:58

My latest FB update would have you reaching for your hammer...

Went to 4 year old DS's nursery graduation today
When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up he said 'Peadiatric Oncologist'

Bazinga!

How poncetastic is THAT?

Grin
firawla · 16/07/2012 17:03

fancypuffin i hate that too. someone on dh's facebook put "milky" in the middle of their name to indicate that they are breast feeding???
i think they then changed it to "babymaker" - ffs!!!!

cuttingpicassostoenails · 16/07/2012 17:11

"just had Special Cuddles with my lovely scrunchybum".

She's 58 FFS!

And she's related to me...oh, the shame.

CuriousMama · 16/07/2012 17:16

Oh I agree those who protesteth too much and all that Wink

Don't you also just love hearing that your friend's in Costa with their dh, with pics of the patterned coffee they're drinking to go with status Grin

I think dp would leave me if I was that bonkers, and tbh I'd be booking myself in somewhere.

kickingKcurlyC · 16/07/2012 17:19

Oh dear, it's my wedding anniversary today. I said so on Facebook.

Everyone I know now hates me! :(
