to find these FB status updates totally nauseating

just seen one celebrating an anniversary along the lines of "8 Happy Years today, go team us yay..! 12 years of love, 8 of marriage, we have done pretty well. Love you X"

Is is just me or are these totally nauseating....along the lines of hey everyone look how happy we are and how wonderful our life is.

I am probably going to get strung up as some miserable cow but just not sure why people feel the need to announce this stuff...wouldn't you celebrate this with your partner privately rather than pass on your love and congratulations via FB?

I don't mind anniversary ones, it's the ones that post all the fucking time about how much they love the hubs and the bubs, and then get replies from the hubs when they are in the same room!

But I am miserable, so I hide these people.

ThisWeekonFancyPuffin · 17/07/2012 11:09

Anyone who posts the Marilyn Monroe I'm a Selfish cunt should have Facebook taken away from them.

Jins · 17/07/2012 11:10

I don't mind genuine updates from people whatever they say. I don't like the ones that are autogenerated from the games they are playing.

These people may not post on FB much, may hate my ranty updates and be bored rigid with my photos but they are sitting there playing games most of the day.

Whoneedssleepanyway · 17/07/2012 11:10

I do like FB and don't want to block status updates for anyone as people I have on there are friends that I like to see pics of their children and keep abreast of what is going on.

It is just the wording and tone of some of the statuses I find bleurgh

If the status had said "Wow can't believe I have been married 7 years today" I would have liked it...it is the totally OTT sugary, look at me and my life that I just find vom inducing!

I do find the couples who have conversations on FB hilarious!

yabu

im assuming the people status's you read are meant to be your friends - therefore you hopefully like them and you would hope that you are happy for their good news/happiness

fb has a delete/hide button so use it if your happy friends are pissing you off

i have been known for using my fb as a virtual diary to sound off and let out my emotions , esp when dh died last year through suicide :(

sometimes i ranted about what had happened and how i felt - i dont make anyone read what i write nor do i expect anyone to comment, just me letting off steam - was therapy for me

and now 15mths on my i am in a happier place and come to terms with what my dh did and yes my status's are happy again

i have met a new man and he treats me like a princess and is very caring, loving etc and all my friends want to clone him Grin

GlassofRose · 17/07/2012 11:49

Glassofrose out of interest do you have a child? I would have agreed with you on the bday thing before having 2 of my own.. Now I'm guilty of the sin in publishing it on fb. Maybe cos it makes me so nostalgic and emotional and I know my close friends and family want to see bday photos too.

Sorry, there is a difference between sharing that it's your child's birthday and writing cutesy happy birthday messages to your 1-4 year old who cannot read or use facebook. That kind of sharing makes me do this face Hmm

Creamtea1 · 17/07/2012 11:53

Are we talking about the Marilyn Monroe photo society says this is not attractive shite? Hate hate that

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 17/07/2012 12:25

me too!
I hate that one. Do they think they are being all empowering whilst slagging off thin women and showing photos of women in bikinis?

Stupid

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 17/07/2012 12:30

I use my FB statues to 'talk' to my DD. I know its stupid but I do it. Sometimes i just miss her so much. I dont want to talk to anyone in RL and just writing 'I miss you' or 'I love you' helps a bit.
I often say goodnight to her and leave her a song from Youtube.

I also did my first 'at A&E with DC5' this weekend. I KNOW they look attention seeking but I hate hospitals and I just wanted to connect. Of course we got called in and I didnt check my phone for a while. Then there were loads of 'whats happened?' type comments and I felt bad.

I didnt mean to keep people hanging on or worry anyone Blush

Thinking about it I am probably a bloody nightmare FBer!
But its all meant for me, not for anyone else. My ranty statuses are another story though Grin

FB is new, its weird, its changing how we communicate. It can be a nightmare but it can be fun and supportive too. (bit like MN)

Kennyp · 17/07/2012 13:47

I am always tempted to write "blob week's here ... yippeeeee :)". Or. "dh did a massive shit and didnt open the window. Tut tut hubbly wubbly. Wuv ooooo"

Fucking haaaaate those school report bollocks statuses too. A girl in the class i work in is the nastiest child i have ever met, yet "mummy so happy with daughters LOVELY report". I flick my middle finger at posts like those and look for "the grass is sometimes greener yet fertilised in bullshit" button.

time to stop ranting but i cant

DuelingFanjo · 17/07/2012 14:00

yet "mummy so happy with daughters LOVELY report".

but you still have this person on your friend's list? why? Do you like the mother but hate the child?

ken0eddie0kennedy · 17/07/2012 14:06

You have to have people you don't like on your friend's list. It's almost what FB is for.

Jins · 17/07/2012 14:08

I haven't got anyone I don't like on my FB Confused

I'm not interested in people I don't like. In fact I have more people blocked than I do friends Grin

ken0eddie0kennedy · 17/07/2012 14:15

Good for you.

TheCatInTheHairnet · 17/07/2012 14:22

I'm a bit confused about not mentioning you're going on holiday on FB. Why would my friends burgle my house?!!

Jins · 17/07/2012 14:22

I've often wished for a hide or block button in real life for a couple of my neighbours

TapDancingPimp · 17/07/2012 14:48

Genuine clarification needed here - when proper, real-life friends write to each other on FB, things like:

'hey what are you at?'
'What time do you want picked up at tonight?'
'I miss you soo much!'

....why, oh why, don't they just text the person?? Why use FB, is it for attention?

Creamtea1 · 17/07/2012 15:59

Tapdancing - oh so definetly for attention..,why oh why oh why oh why
Complete twattage

i dont like them either but then i hide anything from people who do this lots, i also wonder about the ones that are constant updates on their kids and how wonderful they are as in my experance its always the really crappy parents who do this, i expect they think people wont suss that they are crappy if they do that.

but i am a grumpy old cow so i may be just being very grumpy today

Hopandaskip · 17/07/2012 17:32

I love hearing that so and so is celebrating 18 years of marriage. Especially with marriage being on the decline.

Cloudbase · 17/07/2012 18:32

YANBU purely for two reasons

  1. When people use the word 'Yay!" I then immediately have a mental image of them doing a rather naff 1980's movie style 'air punch'

  2. I am an embittered old bag who would secretly love my imaginary Husband/partner/cat to post declarations all over the internet about how long they had been loving/cherishing/worshipping me, and how becoming part of 'Team Us' had enriched their lives in hitherto unimagined ways Grin

ReindeerBollocks · 17/07/2012 20:18

MrsDeVere - keep using FB just as you do. Your status' are always worth a read, and your boys are so beautiful.

Me, I bitch a lot and push causes I want to raise money for (not a click here to raise money shite). On a rare day you may even get a picture of the kids. But I do chat with friends over it a lot. And I've been checking to see how two friends are getting on after their DCs have had major surgery.

ReindeerBollocks · 17/07/2012 20:20

Tap - my best friend and I do this - mainly because she has no credit quite regularly and so when I make arrangements with her I know she will get back to me this way. It may seem a little twee to others, but it's how we stay in touch.

firawla · 17/07/2012 20:27

I don't see what is weird about people writing messages to their friends on fb or making plans on there. Can understand most of the things people moan about but not that!
Why would you not speak to friends on fb, thats what its for, and its convenient to use sometimes??
