To not remember what my "favourite food" was over a year ago? (Olympics tickets security question)

BanoffeeSplitz · 15/07/2012 07:30

FFS - I applied for £100 or so of Olympics tickets in the first round, like most people didn't get any but another thread on here has inspired me to apply for some Paralympics tickets as they seem to be quite affordable.

Can't remember my password, didn't make a note of it anywhere I can remember - but I do remember at the time discussing with colleagues how daft the security questions were. Haven't signed into account since June last year or whenever it was we found out we hadn't got tickets as assumed whatever was on offer would be far too expensive or nothing we'd want to see, so went to reset password...

The security question is "What is your favourite food?" How the do I know what I might have put in there 15 months ago, don't have a 'favourite food' so really nothing springs to mind. I s'pose I might have tried to guess something that I might remember but drawing a blank here.

Is it too late to sign up with a different email address - I could use my work one but can't access it from home.

You do realise this thread will be random guesses of food Grin

Toast?
Curry?

McKayz · 15/07/2012 07:36

Pizza?
Salad?
Spag bol?

Lifeissweet · 15/07/2012 07:39

Well you still have the sane brain, so if you were asked to think of a favourite food now, what would you choose? It may be that the process your brain goes through to decide is the same

Lifeissweet · 15/07/2012 07:40

That should read same, but I am sure that your brain is sane too. Smile

ReelAroundTheFountain · 15/07/2012 07:41

Can you not call them and ask what to do? There must be other ways of carrying out a security check.

While we're here though Grin

Roast chicken?
Dairylea dunkers?
Pop tarts?

giraffesCantFitInThePalace · 15/07/2012 07:44

greggs sausage roll

Tee2072 · 15/07/2012 07:45

chocolate?
wine?

lightrain · 15/07/2012 07:45

This is a security question for loads of things though. Didn't you give the same favourite food answer that you always do? An answer that doesn't change? That's the idea - its not a questionnaire! I think you AB a bit U, sorry.

Alurkatsoftplay · 15/07/2012 07:46

Same here! What a pain in the arse it's been. I've tried every permutation of curry you can think of, things on toast, french, italian, blah, blah, everything. Gave up in the end.
Yours isn't banoffee pie, is it?

RedBlanket · 15/07/2012 07:49

You know you don't actually have to put a food in the answer. I use the same word for all of them
Mothers maiden name - purple
Favourite food - purple
First car - purple
Etc

its not a questionnaire! Grin
And while I'm here
Cheese
Chips
Curry
Chocolate

ThePigOnTheWall · 15/07/2012 07:49

And no, you can't start a new account now. It's a bonkers system IMHO

Pilchardnpoppy · 15/07/2012 08:06

Er Redblanket, might you need to reset your mumsnet password now? Smile

BanoffeeSplitz · 15/07/2012 08:09

Oh it's such a minor grrrr! in the scheme of things really ...

Usually security questions are things like "first pet's name" which are actual facts IYSWIM and I do have stock answers for those that I know I will remember, or there is a choice of questions - I actually do remember laughing with people about how I wouldn't remember what my favourite food or "hobby" was a few months later. (Though I did successfully sign in a few times back then).

Next time I will use RedBlanket's advice and use the name of my first pet for everything (it is quite memorable & unusual, as long as I can start to remember that is what I'm doing).

Tries getting into mindset of 15 months ago I might have been sensible enough to email myself the answers Hmm I don't think I would have considered that a security risk Wink.

Pom bears or naive ham surely!

JeezyPeeps · 15/07/2012 08:12

Lolling at naive ham. Naice ham.

BanoffeeSplitz · 15/07/2012 08:13

I'm going to try again tomorrow, maybe the answer will magically appear inmy head when I'm not thinking too hard about it, or they will ask a different question.

Chicken Tikka Masala? Porridge? Turkish Delight? Bacon?

Banoffee split?

Chandon · 15/07/2012 08:14

I once had help from soeone with this.

She said: if asked what your favoirite food is, what would you answer NOW. Not trying to remember, but just thinking what you would say NOW to that question.

It is probably the same. It was for me

SoupDragon · 15/07/2012 08:15

YABU. I had the Favourite Food question last year from the TAx Credits helpline. Along with favourite animal Hmm I do remember what I chose, even though I don't really have a favourite food. As I was talking to an actual person, the option of giving my first pet's name was a non starter!

camdancer · 15/07/2012 08:15

0844 847 2012 (option 2)

Once you get through to someone, they are quite nice but it can take AAAAGGGGEEEESSS to get through to a real person. Please don't get me started on the complete ridiculousness that is the Olympics/Paralympics ticketing. I'm really trying to keep my excitement about it all but it is very hard.

SoupDragon · 15/07/2012 08:16

Surely there's a "reset your security information" option of some sort? Even my bank does this (although you have to phone)

Alurkatsoftplay · 15/07/2012 08:16

It wouldn't occur to me to not answer the question correctly. I am too obediant.
And now I too can't go to the games. Wahh.
Are you sure it's not banoffee pie???

RedBlanket · 15/07/2012 08:16

Pilchard Grin - I'm not that daft! I have a security question word and a password word

VirtuallyHere · 15/07/2012 08:18

I do the same as RedBlanket. Some of the questions asked these days are inane. I figure it's even more secure as no one is going to expect a made up password instead of a persons best school friend, etc.

carabos · 15/07/2012 08:36

You can start a new account now. I did it last Thursday and the tickets arrived a week later.
As someone said upthread, use the same word that you use for everything else. The system doesn't know it's not a food or whatever.
