To not remember what my "favourite food" was over a year ago? (Olympics tickets security question)

FFS - I applied for £100 or so of Olympics tickets in the first round, like most people didn't get any but another thread on here has inspired me to apply for some Paralympics tickets as they seem to be quite affordable.

Can't remember my password, didn't make a note of it anywhere I can remember - but I do remember at the time discussing with colleagues how daft the security questions were. Haven't signed into account since June last year or whenever it was we found out we hadn't got tickets as assumed whatever was on offer would be far too expensive or nothing we'd want to see, so went to reset password...

The security question is "What is your favourite food?" How the do I know what I might have put in there 15 months ago, don't have a 'favourite food' so really nothing springs to mind. I s'pose I might have tried to guess something that I might remember but drawing a blank here.

Is it too late to sign up with a different email address - I could use my work one but can't access it from home.

That's good news carabos Smile, sounds like it will be OK then.

Oddly, banoffee pie is one of the few foods I don't much care for, I just like the word for other personal reasons.

Am also naturally obedient - but also usually security questions are structured that giving a 'real' answer seems quite sensible (name of first school etc).

I think I have done the tax credits helpline one though - that was when I was asked to name my 'hobby' over the phone Hmm there was a very, very long pause while I tried to think of something I would remember next time.

I oddly had exactly the same problem and after 3 guesses my account was disabled. It meant I missed out on Olympic tickets. Cross with myself for having too many random passwords I can't remember. Cross with the Olympic ticketing system for being a total pain in the arse!

Favourite bloody food, hobby, memorable date... Blah blah blah. What a pain in the arse!

memorable singer threw me too!

I use the same answer for everything. My maiden name is harly a security question as more people know me by my maiden name than my married name lol

I refused to set a password on the tax credits one - I just said "I'll never remember it, so you might as well not set it and just keep on asking me the security questions as usual"

I have the same hatred of 'favourite' this or that. Some websites allow you to give hints or choose your security questions - much more sensible to go with the way someone's mind works.

YANBU. I have two accounts precisely because of this. I signed up originally years ago, not long after we won the bid to "express an interest". When the time came to buy tickets, unsurprisingly I couldn't remember my password nor favourite food from over two years previous. It was right at the end of the first ticket buying window so there was no way I could get through on the phone and time was running out.

I own my own domain so I can stick whatever I like at the front of my email address, thus I registered a new account (in a fit of mild rage) as "stupidbloody2012accountsystem@..." which slightly alleviated my grumpiness. I never did get any tickets that time round, but I was lucky enough to get some in the fast button clicking exercise at the crack of dawn for super expensive ones a few months later.

So imagine my embarrassment when I had to ring them a few months later because I'd been offered a swap for my synchro tickets as they'd been overbooked. The Very Nice Man was very good and didn't mention my "interesting" email address during the conversation, but it probably made his job a little less dull for five minutes!

My Dsis had same problem. Called locog and they reset her password.

It had never occurred to me that I don't have to answer the questions properly, and can just put purple or whatver.

Doh!

Thanks redblanket!

The problem comes when you have to remember the case you put it in. Fucks me right off that one!
