I've just cut a conversation short with someone for doing this, it makes me feel sick!

If I ring someone and they happen to be in the middle of a meal I'll make apologies and call them later. That's okay, not there fault they were eating when I rang but...WWWHHHYYY ring someone when you are eating? Sloshing and munching and slobbering down the phone Angry

Very rude. YANBU.

GobblersKnob · 13/07/2012 15:38

I don't mind it in close friends or family. Peeing and bathing also acceptable, draw the line at having a shit.

ExitPursuedByABear · 13/07/2012 15:46

Agree - I once had a mum phone me about a party invitation (late) and she was eating a bloody salad all the way through the call. I know it was salad as she told me she was eating salad Hmm

daisyrain · 13/07/2012 15:48

YANBU

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/07/2012 15:50

Not as bad as multi tasking on the toilet...

RoxyRobin · 13/07/2012 15:56

tbh, I had to have a pee while DSis was talking on the phone to me the other day.

She was tearfully pouring out her troubles and I didn't like to cut her short to say I was desperate to go.

Thankfully it was a very quiet pee.

I felt mortified though, as I lambast DH for this sort of thing.

CookieRookie · 13/07/2012 15:58

I can't deal with it with anybody. It was actually my mum I was talking to.

Wouldn't mind the peeing or bathing either it's the up-close sloppy noises that make me feel ill and it's also so rude. I go 0-raging in a matter of seconds.

I used to sit beside a colleague who chewed open-mouthed and sniffled and snorted like a pig while eating, maybe that's why I hate it so much.

YANBU. That & loud yawning down the phone is very rude!

limitedperiodonly · 13/07/2012 16:00

roxy I've done that. My sister and I have marathon phone calls. I'm a quiet wee-er too. I don't flush though. That would give it away.

We also eat while talking on the phone. Though never on the loo.

SecretPlansAndCleverTricks · 13/07/2012 16:06

Yanbu.

I have several times hung up on callers at work for this, I can't bear it.

I've had one caller - a medical professional - ring me and start the conversation with, 'oh, sorry, I'm just eating a sandwich' slobbergulpchew '. I'm afraid my finger hit the cut off button almost of it's own accord. Same with one the other day who as soon as I answered said 'ooh, sorry, I've got a sweet in my mouth' suckclackslurp . Cut straight off, I can't help it. If I ever get pulled up on it at work I'll say it was an accident.

SecretPlansAndCleverTricks · 13/07/2012 16:07

I can't even stand it when you can hear someones tongue moving in their mouth when they talk. Think i am much too sensitive for any job involving phonecalls.

bonzo77 · 13/07/2012 16:13

Yanbu. I cannot tolerate noises. Eating, sniffing, tongues flobbing about, loud breathing, foot tapping, swallowing, loud sneezing or coughing. Angry

belindarose · 13/07/2012 16:16

Aaaaagh. My mum does it. Drives me crazy! Thought she must be the only one.

OvO · 13/07/2012 16:18

I HATE this. Proper stabby rage. It is repulsive!

I also get the stabby rage at people in film/on tv eating noisily. WHY would they put that in a film? WHHHHHYYYYY.

And calm.

CookieRookie · 13/07/2012 16:21

Argh, sucking sweets Angry

Dh still hasn't learned not to call me if he's sucking a sweet. Every time I say "dh ring me back when you're NOT SLOBBERING DOWN THE F**KING PHONE" and then he gets annoyed with my intolerance. Not once, a million times ffs!

Ooops. I've just eaten a biscuit while on the phone to my mum, I didn't realise it was rude. To be fair, I was already eating the biscuit when she rang, and it was a very tasty biscuit.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 13/07/2012 16:27

My GM burps really loudly all the day long, and makes no attempt not to, even when on the phone. Makes me want to puke.

TheCunnyFunt · 13/07/2012 16:47

It depends who I'm chatting to tbh, DP always calls me on his dinnerbreak so he is usually eating, and I sometimes talk to him while I'm eating, but I make an effort to eat quietly if I'm on the phone to him. My mum eats really noisily and chomps, but she'd never go on the phone while eating. I rarely talk to people on the phone tbh!

limitedperiodonly · 13/07/2012 16:49

You should have swallowed it in one go like a pelican endoplasmic. Choking noises can offend but are worth the risk.

Or you could have spat it out as discreetly as possible. Perhaps into your pocket for later.

What sort of biscuit was it, btw?

Eating noisily is not my only bad habit. I'm incredibly nosy too.

MinesaBottle · 13/07/2012 16:51

Incredibly rude, YANBU. I have a colleague who does this - on work calls! She does it off the phone as well and it turns my stomach. God knows what the people on the other end of the phone think Confused

Shutupanddrive · 13/07/2012 16:52

YANBU, I hate it when people smoke while they are talking too. I don't want to hear you inhaling on a bloody cigarette Angry

PackItInNow · 13/07/2012 18:21

Doesn't bother me at all. As long as I can make out what the person is saying, then I don't see any need to get all het up about it and cut people off.

cherrypieandicecream · 13/07/2012 18:30

I have to confess I have done this when on the phone to my mum (and she does it to me) but i wouldn't do it with anyone else......except maybe DH if he calls me when he is away in the US and a) i'm already eating dinner and b) i know that this is the only chance I will have to speak to him due to the timer differences....but to anyone else I think that it is really rude!

Cheriefroufrou · 13/07/2012 18:34

I've only done this on the phone to my mum

some people do yabber on though..

EndoplasmicReticulum · 13/07/2012 18:38

Plain chocolate digestive.
