To think it's rude and disgusting to eat while you're talking to someone on the phone?

I've just cut a conversation short with someone for doing this, it makes me feel sick!

If I ring someone and they happen to be in the middle of a meal I'll make apologies and call them later. That's okay, not there fault they were eating when I rang but...WWWHHHYYY ring someone when you are eating? Sloshing and munching and slobbering down the phone Angry

It doesn't matter whether you are speaking on the telephone or face to face. It is simply bad manners to speak while eating a mouthful (especially if your mouth is open while chewing).

American gum chewers seem to chew with their mouths open. Did their parents not teach them manners?

Doesn't really bother me actually, but I have never done it on the phone... partly because I don't have the multi tasking skills and would end up with it all down my front, and also because I am really paranoid of eating loudly lol

YANBU.

WTF were they thinking? That's the sort of behaviour that makes me Angry and vom all at the same time.

holyfishnets · 13/07/2012 19:22

My best friend and I do this. We also chat on the phone while in the bath and having a wee. Normally I'd do non of these on the phone

It depends. In most circumstances YANBU, but I have 1 friend whom I could not get off the phone for love nor money and if I did just hang up she would call back repeatedly. I have subtly eaten when on the phone to her, and changed DD's nappies, walked the dog etc... the of course I gave her her own ring tone and seldom ever answered the phone to her! So it does depend on you too.

QueenofDreams · 13/07/2012 19:30

Oh YANBU. My mother does this all the bloody time and I sit flinching through the entire conversation at every crunch and squish noise. totally disgusting and I really don't understand why she doesn't phone me AFTER she's finished eating. It gives me the shudders.

I once phoned a family member who was then sick while on the phone...
I did offer to call her back but she said it was fine to talk! Confused

That's very sophisticated endoplasmic. I was worried you were going to say milk chocolate or whispers a Hobnob.
