To think this is exploitative more than it is shocking?

A teen mother who was 12 when she had her first is saying how its the best thing she ever did because now she can go clubbing and wear size 6 clothes.

I'm wondering if she know going in how negatively she was going to be portrayed??

I actually feel a bit sorry for her.

How lovely for her that life has worked out so well - two children, a three bed home and studying for a career. She's worked hard for all of this, and is sending a positive message to any youngsters thinking of embarking on a sexual relationship when they're under age in that article. How exciting for her to think she could be a grandma at 27.

Mrsjay · 10/07/2012 13:41

Does the daily mail not even do their own reporting now
woman now 22 living on benefits told closer magazine

she wasnt a teen mum she was a child and I think she is stupid for exploiting herself in a magazine
somebody would have had to look after her child till she was 16 and be able to do it herself, I think she is immature and really needs to get a grip ,

Nancy66 · 10/07/2012 13:45

I don't think it's that bad, could have been worse and she'll have done the story for the money.

seems like she's making the most of her lot and it's great that she's studying and planning a career - kids could so easily have ended up in care and they haven't so she must be doing something right.

Mrsjay · 10/07/2012 13:49

I dont think she coped all that well if you read into it saying that mums her age can get into trouble with the police and end up in court for drug posession it is all swings and roundabouts but having sex and a baby at 12 isn't ok, It shouldn't be normalised (is that a word)

cheesesarnie · 10/07/2012 13:50

what buttwart said,

its disgusting.

minimisschief · 10/07/2012 13:54

Its only disgusting based on our current society. Nothing inately wrong with it.

PenisVanLesbian · 10/07/2012 14:05

She's no size six.

And since she was arrested for drugs and evicted from her last council house, lives on benefits and lets her mother do most of the childcare, she's not actually doing that well.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 10/07/2012 14:10

But she could've studied for a career from age 12 to 18. It is ridiculous to say that getting pg was the best thing she has done. She does not know what she could've archived if she refrained from having sex as a child.

lovebunny · 10/07/2012 14:13

if she was having sex at 12 someone was abusing her. if she's survived in any way at all that's worthy of regard.

Buttwart · 10/07/2012 14:14

Nothing inately wrong with it

Please can you expand on this point.

AKE2012 · 10/07/2012 14:17

I had my dd at 18. I have told her that although i wouldnt change her i do not want her to copy me.

Buttwart · 10/07/2012 14:17

She had a one night stand at 12 with a 15 year old, who she "reconciled" with to produce child number two. It's very sad that she doesn't understand how she could have been 'abused' lovebunny. Perhaps that's due to the education point (lack of at the time)? Do you think her mind will change as she gets older?

Viviennemary · 10/07/2012 14:19

I for one am shocked that a child of 12 has a baby and this seems to be acceptable in our society. What about protecting girls of this age. It's another shock article by the DM which really is hit rock bottom as a newspaper.

kinkyfuckery · 10/07/2012 14:20

I don't understand how anyone could put a positive spin on this story. Noone should be having sex at 12. It's disgusting, and abusive.

Buttwart · 10/07/2012 14:22

vivienne the biggest shock from the article for me was that the young lady in question thinks it's acceptable, and also believes it to be no problem if children are having children.

MarysBeard · 10/07/2012 14:28

What the Daily Mail do in these type of interview is this:

Interview someone, pay them money. Then in writing the article, pay only cursory attention to the interviewee's responses, or even the questions asked, and just make up the story as they see fit. The interviewee is usually too poor/ill-connected to make a fuss about it.

Just so as you know.

Buttwart · 10/07/2012 14:31

Oh well mary guess that makes it an issue unworthy of discussion then, eh?

Nancy66 · 10/07/2012 14:32

Mary - Closer did the interview, not the Daily Mail and what you say is not correct.

cheesesarnie · 10/07/2012 14:34

Shock no...really mary? the daily mail make shit up?

Viviennemary · 10/07/2012 14:45

I don't know much about how social services operate. But when a girl of 12 or 13 has a baby surely they can't just be responsible for that baby with no adult supervision in a flat on their own. I think this is a lot more worrying than whether the DM or Closer did the interview.

Nancy66 · 10/07/2012 14:48

a 12 year old would not be allowed to live alone with a baby - she was still with her family

lovelydogs · 10/07/2012 15:15

Butt, I think mini means that certain cultures around the world have young childbearing ages, and therefore is socially acceptable within that culture. Other than rural tribes though a lot has been done to eradicate childhood marriages (resulting in pregnancies) I do think it is innately wrong though, evidence suggests girls who give birth younger than 15 or 16 (I think it is) have high infant mortality rates, low birth weight and to have complications themselves. They are more likely to be poor, uneducated and be suffering gender inequality.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/07/2012 15:21

I'm not going to clink. I hate the DM getting advertising revenue from my participation. Did they mention in the article that it is criminal to have sex with a 12 year old?
