to think we should be able to choose what our kids eat for lunch?

My friends son is starting school in September and she has been given a whole list of things he isn't allowed in his lunch box.Not just for allergy reasons,i understand those, but things like,no cheese sandwiches,as thats dairy and carbs together, and no ham as its processed,no yogurts if they have sweeteners in them.No tropical fruits, only berries, apples, pears and peaches, they are better for concentration.no white bread. No pasteurized juice.

I'm not saying that the above isn't true,my kids don't have sugary yogurts or white bread sandwiches,BUT i would like to think they could have them if they wanted to,and i do think that this is going about things in the wrong way?In the grand scheme of things,a cheese sandwich,a frube,a banana and some apple juice isn't that bad is it?I mean it could be worse?

I don't understand why Cuddler has had such a hard time on this thread. Confused
I mean, it has been a pointless thread, & she's posted a few things that made me feel Hmm but she didn't deserve so much bashing.

fwiw I have 3 "excellent" eaters & one 4yo fussbot I'd like to throttle on occasion, but Cuddler hasn't said anything to offend me (and I'm pretty easy to rile, normally).

It's because she was unaccepting of other people's experiences and refused to believe the reasonings that people put forward. Also, she was particularly rude and shrewish in her last post.

shrinkingnora · 12/07/2012 11:28

Wmetcalfe is going to be disappointed on realising that it wasn't true.

Voles, I explained why the OP pissed me off upthread (Wed 11-Jul-12 18:19:16)...

the misinformation in your OP is just another example of the utter nonsense which feeds a general disdain for teachers and for state education, a disdain which is often based on complete ignorance

Noqontrol · 12/07/2012 13:12

donteatthevoles cuddlers rather charming way of calling people stupid doesn't make her very endearing really. Coupled with her arrogance that if only people did it her way they wouldn't have fussy eaters, completely ignoring the fact that plenty of people have adopted a similar approach. But to listen to what people are saying means she would have to get off her very high horse and consider that shes not completely right. But she doesn't want to do that because she wants to feel superior and special instead. So shes flounced, because tbh theres nothing else she can add to the conversation. Although a sorry would always be helpful.

but Jenai - that information was still given out to parents as guidelines. Why do some school's feel the need to pontificate on things they are not trained in and yet presume to 'know better' than parents.
I don't want to hear 'they have to' as an excuse. My DCs school does not have any rules abour what can and can't be in lunchboxes and drinks bottles. They stick to teaching an leave the parenting to parents

klaritaf · 13/07/2012 08:48

If it is true about these guidelines, it's quite amusing really as Brighton primaries use Scholarest for their school dinners (cheap slop) and purely anecdotally more than one SENCOs are morbidly obese IME.
