Lots of it is fine, but specifically the scenes with the fight with the big scary dragon at the end. DP thinks I'm putting ideas into DS's head by suggesting it is scary.

I think he's just too young to see those kind of images?

Please could I ask, if you've seen it, what age do you think it's suitable for?

Also, if you think IANBU, please could you help me explain why to DP?!

I have seen it but it was a while ago. I can't remember any places dd was scared. She saw it at the cinema and was a little older, but she can be quite sensitive.
Tbh I don't think either of you Abu. Its just a different opinion. Unless your dp spends no time with his child its difficult to say who would be right.

Well, it is rated PG, not U, so yes, I would think it's too scary for a 3.5 year old. I wouldn't let mine watch it.

Actually - IABU. It depends on your child, but I assume DP knows your kid as well as you do - so if he thinks it's suitable, it probably is. Just make sure he knows he is dealing with any nightmares!

My two year old likes it but then he's a neglected third child (hard as nails and incredibly well adjusted)

I wouldn't let him watch it on his own, but with company he'd be fine

Are you nervous of taking your DS to a pantomine? Lots of wicked people in those!

Do you actually remember that scene at the end? I forgot it till the film got there and then remembered what was going to come next and said whoa, we need to skip this!

Depends on the child but my ds saw it at the cinema in 3d at just turned 3 and thought it was amazing. No damage done as far as I can tell.

Why is pg not suitable for a 3 year old?

This film is our 3.5 year old DS favourite film, he loves it.

I think how scary a film/tv show is depends on how your child views things.

Our 3.5 year old DS also loves Ben 10 but can not watch it as our 5.5 year old DD finds it scary.

A PG film is suitable for a 3.5 year old if their parents decide it is. This parent thinks it is suitable for 3.5 year old, based on my son at that age.

I think DD was 5 when she saw it, and she found it a bit scary. I was perfect for my then 8yo DS.

I do an annual trip to the pantomime with 30 4 and 5 year olds and I can guarantee 3 will be in tears. Pantomime can be very scary, apparently.

Pantomimes are still PG...allowing a parent to decide whether for example their child would have the beejayzus scared out of them when everyone starts booing and hissing at the pantomime villain.

It's the same with PG films.

Well practically speaking all films are PG in a way, isn't watership down a U?! That's got properly scary bits in it!

3.5 is so young! FWIW I think Ben 10 is too old too.

Dd loves that film and has done for a year or so, she's 4. I think that a fight with a mythical creature no matter how well done isn't as scary as something happening to a real person.

And it actually isn't scary as in intense like, say Narnia, it's exciting.

Do you not think that that big scary creature might not cause nightmares?

It must be hard to certificate films because children are so very different.

My niece was afraid of her own shadow til she was about 7yrs old and wouldn't even watch Toy Story because she kept blubbing at the toys being lost

I think films like this are a lot less scary on DVD than in the cinema.
