I am a feminist through and through, but do you really have to analyse every last thing through a feminist lens? The world will be changed bit by bit. You give feminists a bad name by analysing everything to death.

what can I say ?

spindly legs are hawt

Latara · 08/07/2012 22:46

I think this thread has sweet FA to do with feminism & reminds me of a school playground, oh well.....

MmeLindor. · 08/07/2012 22:57

Is this still ongoing?

Fallen had a good idea. I'm going to ask MNHQ if we can have an 'Improper Feminist' topic. I feel that I could contribute to that.

FallenCaryatid · 08/07/2012 23:02

It was motherinferior who suggested it, I think there would be several of us that could split a bottle whilst concentrating on the stuff we thought mattered, like your Kenyan campaign and forced marriage of underage girls.

peoplesrepublicofmeow · 09/07/2012 04:57

it's just like a playground latara i couldnt agree more.

my saying AF is an agressive poster was enough for him to call all his buddies out. he has worked out it's not about his 'point' and all about how many buddies he has to back him up.

the fact is agressive posting is exactly why people think twice about posting in the FWR section.

AF do you deny being an agressive poster?

catgirl1976 · 09/07/2012 07:11

Sweet baby Jesus :(

This is depressing

I'm off to work in my traditionally male role at an all male level in a male dominated industry, possibly hire a few more females, maybe change a few policies and mEntor some other young females and try and convince them the glass ceiling is there to be smashed, whilst subtly changing the culture and environment to be one that enables and empowers women. Like I do 5 days a week.

But I wish I could stay on here and really contribute

Hmm
bejeezus · 09/07/2012 07:15

I'm still at a bit if a kids as to what the critisizers of FWR section, want

The main complaints seem to be that 'posters there, see sexism and discrimination in everything' and 'they over analyse stuff'

Confused

Oh, and they are too serious....

What do you want?

FallenCaryatid · 09/07/2012 07:29

PARD

catgirl1976 · 09/07/2012 07:38

Yup PARD would be good.

An acceptance that feminism is a broad church and fewer demands that only one "view" can be discussed

It does seem much better recently to me though

Whatmeworry · 09/07/2012 08:04

The main complaints seem to be that 'posters there, see sexism and discrimination in everything' and 'they over analyse stuff'

That's not the main complaint, the main complaint has always been the uncompromising attitudes and sheer rudeness of the Old Skool hardline RadFems on there.

And the only people who never "get" that are the Old Skoolers

Fortunately though, for various reasons ( which it seems gets me deleted if I explain why) they are far less prevalent on the Feminist boards right now, so it's a good time to start posting.

bejeezus · 09/07/2012 08:27

I'm quite new to FWR; I never felt it is rude, not compared to AIBU, Not by a long shot!

Uncompromising.....its a discussion board, so all that is involved is peoples views. I'm not sure why you think people should compromise rheir views?

catgirl1976 · 09/07/2012 08:38

I'm quite new to FWR; I never felt it is rude

Perhaps because you are new you have been lucky enough to miss some of the problems?

It is much improved of late IMO and now is a good time, as Whatme says, to start posting and ensure the spirit of PARD and inclusiveness remains.

MNHQ say a lot of posters have reported previoulsy feeling uncomfortable posting, but given the recent improvements hopefully these people will feel able to reclaim the boards as it were.

bejeezus · 09/07/2012 08:55

Why did OP start a thread saying FWR had gone bonkers of late then? If it has actually improved of late....
Or maybe OP feels differently?

MmeLindor. · 09/07/2012 08:57

Meow
Is it too much for you to take, that more than one person disagrees with you? AF didn't call her buddies. Other people simply agreed with her assessment of the situation.

Fallen / MI
Great idea. I'm with you on the opening a bottle and solving the world

Btw since you are all here, did you notice the webchat with Sec of State for Int Development today? About the Family Planning Summit

catgirl1976 · 09/07/2012 09:00

There was a certain amount of upheaval and craziness recently bejeezus. Things have improved since then IMO.

But that's just my opinion. Perhaps the OP disagrees or perhaps the OP is refering to the recent upheaval. I don't know.

AutumnSummers · 09/07/2012 09:04

I've always found the feminists on here rather closed minded and __hysterical-- radical. I try to give the board a wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide berth.

AutumnSummers · 09/07/2012 09:05
  • hysterical radical
amillionyears · 09/07/2012 09:06

The Mumsnet pattern happens again and again.

Whatmeworry · 09/07/2012 09:07

Why did OP start a thread saying FWR had gone bonkers of late then? If it has actually improved of late

It went bonkers, and as a result of that got a lot better as many Old Skoolers have left (for now, anyway). But it looks like if I tell you why MN has to kill delete me :o

AutumnSummers · 09/07/2012 09:10

Whatme Interesting. I've been away a while. Can you PM me and give me the details?
