that the feminism boards have gone a bit bonkers of late

I am a feminist through and through, but do you really have to analyse every last thing through a feminist lens? The world will be changed bit by bit. You give feminists a bad name by analysing everything to death.

That's women for ya! Grin

SoleSource · 07/07/2012 09:55

I haven't been to the feminism boards.

HesterBurnitall · 07/07/2012 09:57

How coordinated, whatmeworry. And inaccurate and biased. What is your problem with the FWR board?

HelenMumsnet · 07/07/2012 10:49

Ahem. Enough already

Would be most grateful if folks could cool it with the personal attacks.

And we don't think the rehashing of what did/didn't happen last week is tremendously helpful.

BelieveInPink · 07/07/2012 11:47

I have tried with the feminism. I really have. I am open to learning anything, I take other people's opinions on board. But I have come to the conclusion that feminists, in general, sap the joy out of everything and anything in life.

They also, generally, believe that women have no choice in their decisions and that they're being forced to believe the things they do, for anything that is not a feminist way of thinking. Which is so ironic it's unreal.

SweetTheSting · 07/07/2012 11:54

I like the new sections on FWR. Thank you MNHQ.

bejeezus · 07/07/2012 11:57

Are you suggesting that people who like the feminist section and post there regularly shush or misrepresent themselves and their views, in the hope that people who don't post there, will start posting there? And hopefully it will become a place which you like??

Who is bonkers?

yellowraincoat · 07/07/2012 12:01

Cuppity, obviously I reported the post where you named a poster who you had a problem with.

Saying "it rhymes with bellow fain boat" doesn't mean you're not naming someone.

wait, what. Somebody is complaining that on the feminist section the world is analysed through a feminist lens. Really?

What do you expect to happen there?

I rate this thread 0.000000001/10

ThePan · 07/07/2012 13:10

OP, you will know by now that MNHQ has 5 different sections under the Feminists 'topic'. This seems to be generally well-received by most posters, and should assist in avoiding the internicine battles that have been conducted.

IF you are dubious about 'over-analysing' then I'd suggest you avoid the headings where such things, in your view occur. You don't have to read them, anymore than I don't have to read BabyNames, Doghouse, Forces Sweathearts, or any other topic I have zero interest in.

Repeatedly provoking a pointless discussion about the FWR fall out isn't serving anyone, oher than those wishing to divert attention from womens rights.

We also have a Human Rights topic which is more than worth a viewing. all imho.

wow lots of deletions, and sorry if I've re started an old argument. I have no idea what went on last week. My angle was just that I see more and more threads which basically say 'Dogs, are they patriarchal bastards, discuss' etc and it all seems a bit odd.

Like Ephiny says I do think some people try too hard to find a feminist angle or insult where there is none. Ah well, I suppose the arguments are age old. My mum and sisters were having the same ones in the 70's

OP posts:
yellowraincoat · 07/07/2012 13:53

But there is a feminist angle to everything. That's the point. You can analyse everything from a feminist/Marxist/libertarian/whatever your bag is angle.

LynetteScavo · 07/07/2012 14:01

There is a feminist angle to everything.

And a lot of the feminist seem really angry, which is good because otherwise nothing would ever get changed if we were all happy with our lot.

But I have never come across so many "glass half empty" people as the feminists on MN. There is the same amount of liquid in the glass if you perceive it as half full or half empty.

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/07/2012 14:09

well yes, you can analyse everything from a feminist perspective, it's just that sometimes it seems a bit thin. A bit trying too hard to find an angle. But each to their own. I suppose although I am a feminist, I don't really get rad feminism

OP posts:
FunnysInLaJardin · 07/07/2012 14:15

In fact I think that rad fems weaken the feminist message because instead of concentrating on the premise that men and women should be equal, they over analyse everything and then all feminists are perceived as slightly bonkers.

You're a bit late for the radfem bashing Jardin.

yellowraincoat · 07/07/2012 14:20

Yeah, agreed, NR. We get it. Some people think feminists/radical feminists over-analyse/are bitter old hags/whatever.

We've had this argument about 50000 times in the last week. If you don't want to analyse, don't. Why berate others for doing so?

NoComet · 07/07/2012 14:21

They are often a bit OTT

And they flame you within an inch of your life if you tell them so.

I confess I now don DHs welding overalls and flash mask first.

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/07/2012 14:22

that's me always about 3 steps behind............

All women should be interested in feminism and I would never trust a women who didn't call herself feminist. But I do think that amongst folk in general the word 'feminist' means the radical version whereas it should mean a person who believes in equal rights for women

OP posts:
FunnysInLaJardin · 07/07/2012 14:24

just because you've had this argument 50000 times in the last week doesn't mean we all have Yellow. If you don't want to have the discussion again don't, but I would like to if that's OK?
