I am a feminist through and through, but do you really have to analyse every last thing through a feminist lens? The world will be changed bit by bit. You give feminists a bad name by analysing everything to death.

I hope who ever is interested in a chat or a debate about feminism or feminist issues comes over to the section.
I hope anyone is isn't interested in chat or debate about feminist issues stays away.

AgentZigzag · 07/07/2012 00:24

24Hour, but unless you know the way threads go and which ones will be chatty/heavy/likely to get you a thorough thrashing, you're taking a chance posting if you want to avoid getting the thrashing.

I wasn't being snidey, as I said, I've posted a few times there and am interested in the subjects, but it scares me the challenges to the way you think can be very...robust?

And if you're not feeling very robust yourself it can cut you off from the discussion a bit.

ZigZag, I think it's really calmed down in feminism now.

Also you can visit our lovely paddling pool, specially for the nervous/gentle of nature/new.

yellowraincoat · 07/07/2012 00:29

Reported your post Cuppity, why are you stirring? You don't think we've had enough arguing yet?

Alameda · 07/07/2012 00:30

I LIKE nutjobs and people who have something heartfelt to say. Do not want to read boring common sense middle of the road things all the time.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 07/07/2012 00:32

I like the feminism section, for all the shit that has gone on it is still a great section to learn and debate.

24HourPARDyPerson · 07/07/2012 00:33

Well yes, Agent, i Know things can get harsh and that's not good - but that's not peculiar to the feminism boards. If you get your arse roasted in AIBU, or Education or whatever it's not nice either. If you care about something you (general) are likely to get het up - that accounts for all sides considering themselves flamed.
there are a lot of very nice, very thoughtful people there.

Moominsarescary · 07/07/2012 00:37

Whenever I see a thread like this I pop over and have a look. I've not seen anything yet that's made me want to post. However I think nut jobs is a bit harsh, although some of the feminist threads that come up in AIBU ( like the one this morning) probably put some people off

AgentZigzag · 07/07/2012 00:44

'Also you can visit our lovely paddling pool, specially for the nervous/gentle of nature/new.'

I'm like 24Hour now and can't tell whether that's snidey or not Grin

I wouldn't say I was talking about a soft, gentle space where posters all enable each other in a supportive way and punctuate posts with 'xxx' and '

HesterBurnitall · 07/07/2012 00:45

I sometimes think they're meant to, Moomin.

The threads in feminism can be anything from fab to crap, a bit like the rest of the site. Or any site, really.

yellowraincoat · 07/07/2012 00:48

No sarcasm, ZigZag, we really do have a thread called the paddling pool.

I was scared of getting torn to shreds there for ages too, but lately I've just been thinking that if anyone ignorant can't be arsed being polite because they disagree with my opinions then whatever really.

I might be a sarcy cow sometimes, but I don't like seeing people being told off for their opinions. I don't see a lot of that going on on FWR atm. We have lovely threads about films and books that won't raise your feminist ire.

bejeezus · 07/07/2012 00:52

Really zigzag? See, I feel AIBU is the place your opinions are more likely to be ridiculed. There is no mercy at all on AIBU... I at least think FWR is more empathetic/sensitive??..not sure what it is, but I certainly think AIBU is more cut throat

NarkedRaspberry · 07/07/2012 00:52

We're doing it wrong and giving feminism a bad name?

Typical women, multi-tasking again...

24HourPARDyPerson · 07/07/2012 00:52

Regarding not knowing when somethings likely to kick off - wasn't there a thread in Recipes years ago, now, about Mangos which went totally ballistic?? Who'd have predicted that!

kickassangel · 07/07/2012 00:52

You do know that this is like talking about someone who is standing right next to you? ie, we can hear you?

I post on the fem. section, and all over the place on mn. I am actually trying to learn more about feminism as I feel woefully ignorant.

Both in rl and on here, I have been known to make jokes. Actually, in rl, I've been known for being a bit shallow and a dumb blonde, to a certain extent. Comparisons have been made to Baby Spice (which ages me).

I'm just not happy about sweeping generalisations like this.

In rl people either avoid or tolerate those they find 'not their cup of tea'. I wouldn't bitch about someone else at the school gates, and it makes me sad to hear you're all talking about me like this.

Here's a deal: I want start threads about any other forums on mn, saying 'xxx group, what a bunch of nutters' if you don't do that about me?

Now can we all hold hands, skip through a meadow and sing, 'I'd like to teach the world to sing' ...
(Levity, in case you missed it)

AgentZigzag · 07/07/2012 00:52

'The threads in feminism can be anything from fab to crap, a bit like the rest of the site. Or any site, really.'

Maybe it's just the normal bit of any forum that's used as a convenient stick by posters who are up for finding sticks to beat feminists with (probably not a very good expression given the subject, but I can't think of another way of putting it).

There's no single subject in AIBU to define the posters here, so to stereotype 'the feminist boards' as being aggressive could be taken by the posters to be more personal than if you just said AIBU is aggressive.

yellowraincoat · 07/07/2012 00:53

Well if it's going to kick off over any fruit, it's likely to be mangos, I guess.

Those are some controversial bastards, mangos.

24HourPARDyPerson · 07/07/2012 00:53

That's a good point Agent

24HourPARDyPerson · 07/07/2012 00:56

But of course, Yellow - Mango. Man- go.

Geddit? GEDDIT?

I remember a poster in recipes a bit ago getting a flaming for asking what fillings she could put in her husbands lunch sarnies 24Hr - ironically Grin

She was getting asked why she felt she should make his sarnies, why he couldn't do it himself etc, it must have taken her by surprise a bit.

HesterBurnitall · 07/07/2012 00:58

Yellow raincoat, mangoes www.mumsnet.com/Talk/recipes/377622-what-do-you-do-with-mangoes?

24HourPARDyPerson · 07/07/2012 01:01

Think I remember that one too agent

I would've suggested egg. they all love my egg sarnies in DH's work
