To think not keeping sugar in the house

Is fine if no one in your family takes it and it's poison anyway?

What happens is, I don't take sugar, so the guests slowly drink it all in tea. I don't think about it at all. Eventually I am confronted by a guest and no sugar. They say, GOD! You NEVER have sugar!

I buy sugar. They drink it all again. So it continues.

Pumpkin and butternut squash set off my trypophobia

NarkedRaspberry · 04/07/2012 18:21

I like pumpkin seeds but have never actually bothered to bake the ones from a pumpkin and eat them.

Butternut squash can be yucky. It has a weird quality sometimes where it goes harder and harder without seeming to get more cooked Confused

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:21

I do feel a bit sorry for the dc. Their little disappointed faces every day when they ask what's for tea. They way they plead with their friends to ask them round. None of them will eat round mine. Weirdos.

YABU, tea is bloody horrible with no sugar!

Bunbaker · 04/07/2012 18:22

It takes us ages to get through sugar in our house unless I am doing a lot of baking. I think it is a bit judgy pants and inhospitable not to have some in the house. I do have friends who ask if I have sweetener though and I tell them that we avoid them.

I use sugar to balance the taste of tomato sauce, baking of course, for adding to porridge, in some stir fries (the Chinese actually use sugar as a seasoning) and to reduce the heat if I have overdone the chilli in a curry.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:22

I would rather sit down and look out the window.

Sugar on peasShock

I have lots of sugar because I love baking, the DC are allowed to sprinkle a little on their cereal and sometimes weird guests like a spoon or two in their tea/coffee.

I don't put it in savoury dishes. Or salt, much to FIL's disgust!

KneesoftheBee · 04/07/2012 18:22

The word posset makes me giggle.

I don't know why.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:23

It's not the seeds that are creepy to me, but the fleshy strings.

Hell looks like the inside of a pumpkin, I tell ye.

NarkedRaspberry · 04/07/2012 18:23

If you don't have sugar in, how do you get your boiler fixed/plumbing sorted/electrics rewired/building work done?

Umami · 04/07/2012 18:23

Not fucking tofu chilli seed thing again Mum. Muuuuuuuuuum!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:23

No, not ON peas. A bit of sugar in the water the peas get boiled in.

But I never do it now as i never have sugar in.

Umami · 04/07/2012 18:24
HecateHarshPants · 04/07/2012 18:24

No, I don't have sugar in the house either. I do have sweeteners (not aspartame Grin ) and I ask "do you take sugar" and if they say yes, 1 or 2 or whatever, I stick that amount of sweetener in.

I always thought it didn't matter. Sweet is sweet, right? Now I'm wondering if I have done a Terrible Thing.

KneesoftheBee · 04/07/2012 18:24

Yes - pumpkins are scarier on the inside than the faces they carve on the outside.

They should turn them inside out at Halloween.

bigTillyMint · 04/07/2012 18:24

Unnecessary GetOrf, IMHO!

Yeah, what do you do when builders/plasterers/plumbers come round?

Mintyy · 04/07/2012 18:25

A large pinch of sugar in pasta sauce per tin of tomatoes. Takes aways the metallic "edge" and brings out the flavour of the tomatoes.

God, didn't any of you dunderheads even know that??

Umami · 04/07/2012 18:25
NarkedRaspberry · 04/07/2012 18:25

Thats why I buy tall butternut squash rather than squat ones, so you get the most without seeds possible.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:25

Give the builders a beer.

cocolepew · 04/07/2012 18:26

Im with you on the pumpkin insides.

I was helping the wee ones in my class carve one at Halloween. I gagged the whole way through it.

An enriching experience for all involved.

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 04/07/2012 18:26

I keep in tea, coffee, granulated sugar and milk, even though I use none of them.

Alas no one returns the favour with my drink of choice, diet coke. Very wude!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:26

Where are you all buying these metallic tomatoes?

Why don't you use the ones you grow personally in your own hothouse? that is such a lie

TuftyFinch · 04/07/2012 18:27

I use sugar to clean my face. With honey. I look about 12 as a result of this beauty regime.
