To think not keeping sugar in the house

Is fine if no one in your family takes it and it's poison anyway?

I have coffee in for guests even though no one in the house drinks it - I'd feel embarrassed if I didn't and they asked! Can't you steal a few sachets of sugar from a cafe for emergencies?

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:08

I don't like cakes. Dry spongey things.

I haven't got a sweet tooth really. I would rather have 8 packets of crisps in a row.

PrettyCherryTrees · 04/07/2012 18:08

I have only have one friend who likes sugar in her tea. She only vidits once every few months. I have sugar on a high shelf at the bsck of the cupboard. I can't imagine not having any - it's hardly poison!

I keep coffee and fruit teas in the house especially for guests because they like them and apple juice for their children even though mine rarely drink it. It's fairly basic hospitality imho.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:08

You buy cakes.

That's what cake shops are for. Duh.

How are poor old cake shops suppose dto survive if you keep sugar an flour an shit?

FioFio · 04/07/2012 18:09

I don't have it generally either hully

cocolepew · 04/07/2012 18:09

But what do you put on your cereal? Or in your cream? Or on your strawberries?

Freak.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:09

Salt and sugar detract from the acidity in the tomatoes ... Some add tomato sauce which is just vinegar and sugar ...

It is not like a little bag of sugar is going to go off ...

nannyof3 · 04/07/2012 18:09

I hate when i visit someone and they have no sugar... I would always provide the 'essentials' !!!

HeadfirstForHalos · 04/07/2012 18:10

"Just a spoonful of sugar..."

Buy a little bag of sugar for your guests Grin

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:10

I put prunes on my muesli

I don't have cream.

Strawberries are naturally sweet and a little kirsch helps them along lovely.

Why aren't I dead skinny?

I'm with GetOrf in not seeing the point in cake. Claggy lumps of fat.

I do put sugar in tomato based sauces though. And salt.

imnotmymum · 04/07/2012 18:11

Now home made bread I do not get Morrisons crusty at 60p a loaf cannot see why people do it !

Floggingmolly · 04/07/2012 18:11

Has someone remarked on your lack of hospitality, Hully?

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:11

Oh that Nigella she gives herself airs. She went to Italy when she was 18, someone said 'ciao bella' to her and now she classes herself as an authority on Italian food.

I mean honestly. Anyone who has tried her gnocchi roastinis knows that she knows nowt about it.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 04/07/2012 18:12

Freaks.

imnotmymum · 04/07/2012 18:12

Mkae your own eclairs Hully go on they are much nicer than shop !

Itsjustafleshwound · 04/07/2012 18:12

I also like my sugar from cane and not from beet .

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:13

I love Nige, really I do, but some of her recipes are bollockas.

Umami · 04/07/2012 18:13

I have caster (both standard and vanillerated), granulated, light brown soft, demerera, dark muscovado, honey, maple syrup, golden syrup, treacle and icing sugar. And a tube of liquid glucose. Think that's the lot.

I am keeping the sugar-growers of the world in business.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:13

Grin gerrof

Look how she's made ol Charles Saatchi slim down, I reckon she's kind of suctioned it off him and put it in her cooking and her cleavage.

Up to half a teaspoon of sugar to two cans of tomatoes in pasta sauce.

Sugar is also the answer to too much chilli heat -cancels it out completely.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:13

Make your own eclairs!!!

Is that even possible?
