Is fine if no one in your family takes it and it's poison anyway?

I second that hullygully
SUGAR in pasta sauce is so wrong.

imnotmymum · 04/07/2012 18:01

Grin at weirdo

DrowninginDuplo · 04/07/2012 18:02

Sugar is pasta sauce? Wtaf! Off you go to netmums...

SecretSquirrels · 04/07/2012 18:03

Don't you ever have workmen in? They need tea and 3 sugars you know.
Nigella always puts sugar in any tomato based sauce.

heymammy · 04/07/2012 18:03

Of course you put a sprinkling of sugar when you make pasta sauce...sets off the tomatoes perfectly! Honest guv.

Cheriefroufrou · 04/07/2012 18:03

"Sugar cuts the acdity of tomatoes"
SALT makes tomatoes sweet

Not very hospitable though, is it? Unless you don't like any of the people who come to your house (entirely possible based on my experience).

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:04

I never cook anything with sugar in.

It's nice in peas, but that's about it really.

I never bake (don't see the point in cakes).

I have got 3 tubs of cream of tartar in my cupboard, which I discovered the other day. I have no idea what you would use that for. Dd must have bought them.

EndangeredOtter · 04/07/2012 18:04

Knees if you look at the side it says

Sugar is a natural preservative and if kept in a cool dry place will keep indefinitely

Booette · 04/07/2012 18:04

Our sugar is ages old as we rarely use it. And we make loads of pasta sauce!

Same with tea and coffee. I once gave some friends coffee made with out of date instant stuff as I don't drink it. Oops!

imnotmymum · 04/07/2012 18:04

My Gran used to add sugar to the cooking of carrots

shrimponastick · 04/07/2012 18:04

We don't keep milk in our house.

It's a bloody pain when we get guests and they want milk in their tea/coffee.

Drink it black like we all do!!! Much easier!!!!Grin

OP -just steal sachets when you are in various cafes - that should impress your guests!!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:05

Mind you, everything else I cook is doused in loads of salt

I feel the same about salt free houses as some of you lot feel about sugar free ones.

Put some salt in your spuds, MIL.

LucieMay · 04/07/2012 18:05

I keep sugar in a jar purely for visitors' in cups of tea/coffee. I'm a shit cook so I never use it for baking and I don't have it in my tea/coffee nor DS on his cereal. It's probably in hard lumps.

usualsuspect · 04/07/2012 18:05

But don't you have sugar on your cornflakes?

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:05

Not having milk is wrong.

But only skimmed, full fat is DISCUSTING

I don't have sugar in my tea but I have it for guests. Just seems weird to have no sugar in the house. It's not crack Wink

imnotmymum · 04/07/2012 18:07

Get How can you not see the point of cakes !!!!!!!!!!!!![sorry one to many but] !!!!!!!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:07

I think I buy a pint a week.

usualsuspect · 04/07/2012 18:07

I love the taste of long life milk , it tastes like the sterilised milk my Grandma always had.

LucieMay · 04/07/2012 18:08

I also have teabags purely for guests (well my dad who looks after ds some days while I'm working) and i never drink them. Just courtesy innit!

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/07/2012 18:08

I lived in Italy. It is acceptable to put a tiny amount of sugar in pasta sauce to cut the tomatoes. Most tomatoes now are much sweeter than heirloom tomatoes so don't really need it. If I need some sweet in the sauce, I use a small amount of sweet chilli sauce.

Only freaks and weirdos don't have salt in the house.

Inertia · 04/07/2012 18:08

What about for home made bread / pizza bases ?

Tbh If DH didn't drink coffee I would never bother buying the hideous stuff. Except when my stepmother visits once a year because she is lovely and she drinks it.
