To think not keeping sugar in the house

Is fine if no one in your family takes it and it's poison anyway?

My pet hate is people who offer you a cup of tea, and when you ask for sugar look at you in a baffled way as if you'd asked for caviar in it, then say.
"oh yes, we do have some, DH keeps it in the shed behind the rat poison. Hang on, I'll just get the stepladder and the torch. No, no it's no trouble"

Just steal some packets from a cafe and leave them in the teabag tin.

I don't generally bake but I do use the bread maker - it's easier to have a bag of flour in the house than buy bread midweek.

Some curries do need sugar - unless you are poncey like GOML and have jaggery.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:14

Umami - never knowingly undersweetened

Fucking hell umami.

Charles Saatchi has slimmed down because Nigella served up her vile mexican lasagne or marmite spaghet and he has refused to eat any of her cooking since.

Like she REALLY cooks any of that shite in her Eaton Square gaff.

KneesoftheBee · 04/07/2012 18:15

I like a vanilla slice and that is it as far as cake is concerned.

DH decided to make home made bread one day weeks ago and I am still trying to scrape the remains off my worktops.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:15

I'm beginning to understand maybe why all my cooking is horrid.

OP posts:
Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:16

But not as horrid as Nigella's.

Jaggery is like concrete though.

I really ought to have an ice pick in the house like Sharon Stone.

OOH

NarkedRaspberry · 04/07/2012 18:16

Brown sugar and cinnamon on butternut squash before roasting it - only a tiny amount.

Umami · 04/07/2012 18:16

I figured that was the standard sugar stash of a regular baker.

Caipirinha anyone?

cocolepew · 04/07/2012 18:17

Prunes and muesil?

Dear god woman have a bowl of sugarcoco pops

akaemmafrost · 04/07/2012 18:17

I have a jar of sugar from a bag purchased about two years ago Blush.

We don't drink tea or coffee and I never use it apart from maybe if we have strawberries and cream.

imnotmymum · 04/07/2012 18:17

Prunes and museli ! Mum is that you !??!!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:18

URGH butternut squash is yak.

And pumpkin. God didn't mean us to eat that shite. It is just required for Cinderella's carriage.

Have you ever carved up a pumpkin for halloween and then looked inside to see all those tendrils and mad seeds and though that it looked like all the bloody tentacles of blood as in War of the World?

Umami · 04/07/2012 18:18

I'm down with the muesli prunes. I throw a handful of sultanas in mine. For the fructose fibre, y'know.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:18

Hully likes to keep regular. I bet she is also conscious of the binding effects of eggs.

She is called Doreen in real life.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:19

See you're all a bit fancy, aren't you?

Here is my cooking:

Get loads of vegetables. Fry them a bit with loads of chilli. Add tomatoes or coconut milk. Sometimes add some tofu or seeds or beans.

Put on rice/pasta/noodles.

Should i be doing more?

Umami · 04/07/2012 18:19

The inside of passion fruits gives me the screaming heebie-jeebies.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:19

Eggs is good. I like a nice boiled egg of a weekend.

OP posts:
imnotmymum · 04/07/2012 18:20

Yes Hully finishing it off with an homemade profiterole.

Umami · 04/07/2012 18:20

Pudding, Hullster, pudding.

ErikNorseman · 04/07/2012 18:20

Pasta sauce without a bit of sugar is sour and yuk. maybe because I use tesco value tinned tomatoes I also put a bit in curry.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 18:20

pudding?

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 18:21

I just cook curry all the time.

Or a few varieties of pasta sauce.

Or steak and chips.

I used to love cooking new stuff but have given up on all that jazz really. I would rather sit down and look out the window.

Umami · 04/07/2012 18:21

Sorry, dessert.

Lemon posset, for instance.
