Is fine if no one in your family takes it and it's poison anyway?

It looks like something invented in the 50s.

Fanny probably used to sprinkle it over Johnny.

dd likes making cakes as well. Same as - she buys a bag and makes about 5 cakes all in one day, and then that's it for a few weeks.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 15:01

Considering I hate cooking and such I do like Come Dine With Me.

It is horribly fascinating.

There was an awful woman on the other day called Susan. She was FAB.

And yesterday was a woman with an exorcist doll in a bed with a spinning head. How cool is that?

I like it was well - for the GHASTLY people and the judgement.

Thumbwitch · 05/07/2012 15:04

I can't not have sugar in the house, I do a reasonable amount of baking.

But I can guarantee I have never put sugar in a pasta sauce. I think DH has - his bolognaise recipe calls for not only half a bottle of white wine Hmm but also a tablespoon of sugar - bleurgh! Luckily I can't eat it cos it also has tomatoes in :)

I have a friend though who has no salt in her house. Now that I really can't understand - I went there for dinner once (informal) and ended up cooking the pasta, was searching high and low for salt to put in the water and she confessed she had none but managed to locate this teeny salt cellar that she'd nicked from some canteen or other that was about 2cm high and 1cm square base - just enough to put in the pasta water. Her DH was really impressed by the tastiness of the pasta that evening... Grin

I like it when they score each other and try and be really mean so they can WIN

No salt is well nigh obscene.

If you like Come Dine with Me for its Ghastly People, you would freakin love May the Best House Win.
They are ghastly AND delusional.

Such fun.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 15:12

ooo when is that on?

Sugar is one thing (although I also put white wine in my bolognaise recipe like Mr Thumbwitch ) but to not have salt........ How can people not season their food when cooking? We all know too much salt is bad, but small amounts of salt have health benefits. Plus more importantly, unseasoned food tastes crap.

Thumbwitch · 05/07/2012 15:19

We have a brilliant cooking show here in Australia called My Kitchen Rules - it's like a cross between the Restaurant and Come Dine With Me. If you ever get it over there, you'll love it. Couples compete in pairs (like the Restaurant), they set up a home restaurant for one night only and invite all the others over (like Come Dine With Me). Not only do you get the bitching about others' cooking, but you get to watch the often carcrash tv that is the couples cooking their own meals for the others - love it!

And I completely agree - it's Just Plain Wrong not to season food with a little salt!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 05/07/2012 15:19

Lots of people are salt free.

I can live without sugar but not salt - unsalted food tastes bland.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 15:22

Oh we really need that Thumb we do

ExitPursuedByABear · 05/07/2012 15:23

Strange see, I don't use salt in cooking.

But I cannot eat cheese or tomatoes without a liberal sprinkling.

BikeRunSki · 05/07/2012 15:23

Bicarb for tomato acid in pasta sauce.
We have "Grandad sugar" for FIL 's tea when he visits and caster sugar for baking. Those are the only two occasions sugar comes out.

GrimmaTheNome · 05/07/2012 15:23

My DH really does have to restrict sodium, so I make saltless bread and don't add salt when cooking. (might add low-sodium marigold powder or low sodium soy). I usually have to add salt to mine at the table, but DD, brought up on this, doesn't seem to need extra.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 05/07/2012 15:23

Its on at 3pm weekdays.
Hilarious.

squoosh · 05/07/2012 15:27

As a non tea/coffee drinker I don't really have need for sugar unless I'm baking.

But I'll always keep it in the cupboard along with tea and coffee for when guests fancy a cuppa. I also have to remind myself to buy milk, don't usually have that either.

Thumbwitch · 05/07/2012 15:41

oo milk - I never used to have any of that in, didn't drink tea or coffee either. In fact, my coffee went all nasty from lack of use Blush

Hully my love, I looked up to see whether or not you'd be able to see a sample of My Kitchen Rules but sadly, they have area restrictions on it :( so you can't. Pity, I just know you would indeed love it! Petition whatever channel is lacking in cooking competition shows for it...

Low salt cooking can sometimes be compensated for by using black pepper - not too much, but it adds to the flavour. I don't use a lot, but I do need a little. DH is an "autocondimentor" - he adds salt to his meal before he's even tasted it. I find this a touch insulting, but it's a habit.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 05/07/2012 17:21

I like Four in a Bed (?) where B&B owners judge each others' guesthouses. It's fabulous, and there are some right nutters on it.

Mrsjay · 05/07/2012 17:30

oh i love four in a bed ((ooer))) It is just genuis and im sure they have little plastic bags of pubic hair just to place on the pillows or shower Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 05/07/2012 17:46

Four In a Bed is genius.
Does anyone remember that awful woman with the donkey sanctuary in Wales?

bigTillyMint · 05/07/2012 18:04

I like Come Dine with Me, May the Best House and Four in a BedBlush

KneesoftheBee · 05/07/2012 18:08

Ooh...I love all those programmes as well.

Armchair judging.

Fabulous!
