Before I start I realise that the following will makes us sound like teenagers but I assure you we are actual adults.

I make cakes. Not for money, just for friends and family. If I'm asked to make any I just ask for whoever to buy the flour/sugar etc.

A friend at work wants use to go into business together. She makes lovely cakes but cant really decorate them.

Im not interested. Between work and 3dc i just dont have time.

She has recently become obsessed with cake pops. She makes loads of the things. To be fair, hers do taste lovely.

Anyway, i bought myself a machine that makes them. I made some yesterday and took one into work for her to taste.

She had a fit! Told me I have to stop making them as it was not fair to her. Cake pops are her thing apparently. She also said that if I'm ever asked to make any I have to pass the person her way. Its only fair Hmm

I I just laughed but I know she is serious about this.

She is BU everyone has those little molds to make cake pops, you can even buy a cake pop in Starbucks near near us. She's being a big baby. It's not like you are going into business selling them and competing with her.

pumpkinsweetie · 02/07/2012 21:19

Cake pop v.s Cake pop -Fiiiiggggghhhht lol, fgs i think she is being very childish.
Cake pops are very 'in' at the moment a lot of people make them, if she is going to go into business she will face competiton like any other business does.
If she is upset over you making cake pops, can you imagine what she would be like if u made a 3 tier wedding cake Grin

BettySuarez · 02/07/2012 21:20

They do look lovely kittyfane Smile

pumpkinsweetie · 02/07/2012 21:26

And she is probably secretly jealous you have a maker, as i am Wink, it is quite time consuming without a maker, thats why im thinking of getting one.
To make them from scratch you have to cook, cool and crumb a cake/cakes and then mix it with butter icing, refrigerate, mould into balls with fingers, refridgerate again, melt chocolate to bind sticks to balls, freeze then dip in chocolate and add decorations so im guessing shes jealous yours took half the timeGrin

Viviennemary · 02/07/2012 21:27

They do sound a great idea for kids parties though I must say. Carry on making them for fun. Your friend sounds a bit batty.

thegingerone · 02/07/2012 21:33

I have nothing to add to this debate apart from my sincere thanks that you've started a thread about a fight over cakepops. Fantastic!

(What your "friend" needs to do is spot the next cupcake/whoppie pie/cakepop and make those) Or better still YOU make them and become an international cake celeb!

MarthasHarbour · 02/07/2012 21:34

OP i am inspired!! kitty thank you for that link, i too am mesmerised and-DH will have a fit with you as i am so going to buy that tat as a kitchen must have

OP she is being a loon Smile

MikeLitoris · 02/07/2012 21:45

This machine is actually brilliant btw. I can make a batch of 38 in no time at all.

I do actually like this friend so I'm just going to ignore her and continue to make whatever cakes I am asked to.

How about Cakeplops

Little turd shaped chocolate cakes?

SuddenlyMadameGlamour · 02/07/2012 22:00

Or cake cocks? Grin

besmirchedandbewildered · 02/07/2012 22:06

Cake pops are so over.

It's all about the whoopie pies these days...

NarkedRaspberry · 02/07/2012 22:08

She is being very silly, but if she was planning on getting customers through work, I can kind of see her point - why would anyone order cake pops Hmm for eg their DD's birthday from her if you'll do it for the cost of the flour and eggs.

NarkedRaspberry · 02/07/2012 22:10

Woopie pies I've heard of. And they're vile.

Perhaps you could get one of those mugs made up for her as a peace offering, with her picture and 'The Cake Pop Queen' on it.

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 02/07/2012 22:15

oh competative baking Grin you cant beat it for the fun it evokes.

but you know she is being U and has no monopoly on cake pops or anything else you do thay you can obviously do better than hershe is threatened by.

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 02/07/2012 22:17

whoopie pies are soo 70's

KittyFane1 · 02/07/2012 22:20

Martha :o DH will have a fit with you as i am so going to buy that tat as a kitchen must have :o

MarthasHarbour · 03/07/2012 11:06

kitty it is fine as i have told him we need a kitchen extension or a new house to fit all this tat that i find out about on MN! Grin

but really - i want one - i love how the video shows you how easily it just slips into the cupboard, just effortlessly

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 03/07/2012 11:12

WTF - if I want to eat anything on a stick I'll have a lolly - if I want a cake I want a fucking massive one, not some stupid little one on a stick!!

I have never heard of a cake pop.

rainydaysarebad · 03/07/2012 11:29

But those don't look too hard to decorate Confused. Dip them in some chocolate and then in some sprinkles or chocolate shavings. Not very hard. She's being a bit thick.

shuffleballchange · 03/07/2012 12:30

Can you not teach her a few cake decorating tips to help her on her way?
Any excess cake can be sent to me to be swiftly dealt with in the same manner I have just dealt with 4 cupcakes

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 03/07/2012 12:41

They were selling them at one of those stupid little stalls outside the proper shops in our shopping centre. £2.50 each for a tiny ball of cake on a stick.

Every time I walked passed it I could here a voice in my head that sounded suspiciously like Peter Kay, saying "Cake on a stick? Cake? On. A. Stick? Two pounds fifty cake on a stick?"

They are all a bit 'emperor has no cake' to me. Okay to make for fun at home but a bit mental as a business, especially if you have to ban your friends with ever making them anymore ever.

By the way, the stupid stall lasted about a week before it shut down again and reopened as a mobile phone cover stall.

worldgonecrazy · 03/07/2012 12:56

I had never heard of cake pops before reading this thread, then I read the blog linked to by a PP and read that cake pops have changed people's lives. I have been living on a dessert [sic] island.

NarkedRaspberry · 03/07/2012 13:42

Cake pops, vacuum cleaner covers... There's an undiscovered world out there.

NarkedRaspberry · 03/07/2012 13:43

worldgonecrazy · 03/07/2012 14:13

narkedraspberry you should have said that link is NOT WORKSAFE. I am sat in the office trying to smother my sniggers and sounding like Mutley. Thankfully the boss is at another site today.
