Before I start I realise that the following will makes us sound like teenagers but I assure you we are actual adults.

I make cakes. Not for money, just for friends and family. If I'm asked to make any I just ask for whoever to buy the flour/sugar etc.

A friend at work wants use to go into business together. She makes lovely cakes but cant really decorate them.

Im not interested. Between work and 3dc i just dont have time.

She has recently become obsessed with cake pops. She makes loads of the things. To be fair, hers do taste lovely.

Anyway, i bought myself a machine that makes them. I made some yesterday and took one into work for her to taste.

She had a fit! Told me I have to stop making them as it was not fair to her. Cake pops are her thing apparently. She also said that if I'm ever asked to make any I have to pass the person her way. Its only fair Hmm

I I just laughed but I know she is serious about this.

I think you should both make an enormous double ended cake pop each

Like pugel sticks, dipped in delicious icing

Then belt each other round the head with them....fight until the death (or until the icing breaks and the sponge falls off)

thisisyesterday · 02/07/2012 19:44

maybe she felt like you were just rubbing her face in it a bit*

she wants to make money, but can't decorate them
you can decorate them but don't want to make money
you then take your lovely cake pop in and say "haha hahaha see my lovely cake pop biiiatch"

*i want my face rubbed in cake

Gettheetoanunnery · 02/07/2012 19:44

cake pop
They are delicious!

YANBU, you can make whatever you want to make! She sounds a bit weird Confused

AlmostAHipster · 02/07/2012 19:44

They're lush, Hully. I bought the machine today, after seeing the OP's thread about it and am a convert! :)

PedanticPanda · 02/07/2012 19:44

What the heck is a cake pop??

MikeLitoris · 02/07/2012 19:44

Thisis she knows I have no intention of selling these. I have made them by hand a million times and she has never batted an eye lid.

She asked to taste one of these ones as it was made in this machine. I didn't just randomly take her one in.

I think your friend is being a bit silly really as everyone's making cakes at the moment so I don't think there would be much money to be made. She can't tell you what you can and can't bake it's just daft!

GeometricGiraffe · 02/07/2012 19:44

She is being unreasonable. She will be recognised as good at it if she starts word of mouth. But it's petty to say 'that's sooooo not fair!! I want to be the cake pop person'. Let her get on with it I say and ignore any sulks she may have.

A cake pop is a cake lollipop.

crypes · 02/07/2012 19:47

Does she put loads and loads of pics of her cakes on her fb page? yea thats a surefire way of starting her own business. You could compete with her on fb too.

KittyFane1 · 02/07/2012 19:48

What machine have you got OP? Do you think your friend would come after me if I bought one?

MikeLitoris · 02/07/2012 19:48

claudedebussy · 02/07/2012 19:50

Tiny bits of cake on a stick?! Fuck that. It's got to be a massive slab that you eat with a fork, or nothing.

CrustyBurd · 02/07/2012 20:10

How hard can it be to decorate them?? She needs to sort that out.

And yes, as pp said continue to laugh her off.

griphook · 02/07/2012 20:12

I'm not sure, I think that you are being a bit unreasonable. You made it clear you didnt want to go into bussisness with her, then buy a machine to make better cakes that you give away for free. I not saying you should stop but I don't think she is being unreasonable to be a bit pissed off

vodkaandcaviar · 02/07/2012 20:14

If she was serious enough about wanting to go into business with you, she's probably serious about not wanting you to make the cake pops! It does sound pretty immature imo but on her part, not yours OP.

madonnawhore · 02/07/2012 20:15

What is it with women and Facebook and cake? My newsfeed is full of fucking cupcake instagrams.

AlmostAHipster · 02/07/2012 20:17

So if an Italian restaurant makes spaghetti bolognaise, then I'm not being resaonable if I serve it to my family? Yeah, that makes sense. < cough >

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 02/07/2012 20:20

I agree with thisisyesterday.

WhiteWidow · 02/07/2012 20:22

This is hilarious! Does she think she can monopolise them? Madness. Carry on making them, but better :o

I'm going through something similar.

Friend X decided to start own business with friend Y. They both kept it a secret from me and friend B. with the excuse of not wanting anyone to copy them. They seem to forget it was our idea in the first place and they wouldn't have know about it had it not been for us. Angry and it'd hurtful they didn't trust us.
