AIBU to think that neighbour's son shouldn't have hammered on the door at 6.45am for no good reason?

This morning, mad hammering at the back door at 6.45am - wtf? DS2 was in bed so it wasn't him trying to get in after a big night out and no key.

DH went down to find next-door-but-one teenage DS who wanted to point out that it was pouring with rain and the car window was open, interior of car was soaked. So far, so neighbourly - except - IT'S NOT OUR CAR YOU TWIT!

Our car was parked, as always, in front of the house. This car, nothing like our car, was parked outside the back of neighbour-on-the-other-side house AND ITS NOT HER CAR EITHER. Angry

AIBU to think that he shouldn't have knocked?

Am i the only one wondering what a teen is doing up at 6.45am :D

Petsinmypudenda · 30/06/2012 17:00

Why post if you don't want to hear others opinions?

Op: aibu?
everyone: yes
no: no you are all wrong:
everyone: people do nice things sometimes.
Op: well you are all wrong and liars

Floggingmolly · 30/06/2012 17:00

It could have been your car. Bet you'd be whistling a different tune if it had been.

SoupDragon · 30/06/2012 17:00

"Am i the only one wondering what a teen is doing up at 6.45am :D"

On his way to bed probably Wink

Petsinmypudenda · 30/06/2012 17:00

sixthsense - he could have a paper round or just be a early riser?

pumpkinsweetie · 30/06/2012 17:02

I would have personally gone in my pjs to see whos car it was as i wouldn't like to think of someone elses car getting damaged whilst i went back to bed.
6:45 isn't that early to be kicking up a stink about imo-the lad did right and he sounds like a gem, his mother must be very proud to have bought up such a thoughtful boy, maybe you should take a leaf out of his book op

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 30/06/2012 17:03

yes, me too pumpkin.

carabos · 30/06/2012 17:05

Pets as I said upthread, I can see that the general consensus is that IABU. Its ok for me to find that surprising, because, after all, I didn't think I was, which is why I asked the question.

YANBU to think a neighbour shouldnt hammer on your door so early for no reason but he had a reason, he thought your car was getting a soaking. So YABU.

I think you should mention what a kind thing this lad did to his parents when you next see them like a previous poster suggested, Put the shoe on the other foot- how would you feel if your son tried to do a nice thing and was criticised for doing it! I would be very proud of my son for being so caring and neighbourly and would have thought aw bless him as soon as I realised his well meaning mistake.

Goldenbear · 30/06/2012 21:31

YABU and mean spirited. You should be thanking him. I did something similar which I won't be repeating because my neighbour had a similar attitude to you. Parking officers where giving out tickets for parking on the grass verge if they were on the side of the double yellow lines, we weren't parked on this area but moved our car off the verge anyway. The neighbours car had a ticket and his girlfriend's was soon to get a ticket ad the parking officer was working hi way up the road. I went round at 10 am?? On a Saturday morning, he opened the door in his dressing gown and physically sighed when he opened the door. I then passed on the information, he said ok and not one word of thanks. This coupled with his rudeness insured I never will do anything neighbourly again. Everyone got there bikes stolen recently from the cellar by some children. My DP tried to find them to get his bike back as he arrived home in the car and I ran out to tell him what I had just witnessed from my 1st floor window. This neighbour put a note up a few days later asking if anyone knew where his bike had gone. Our block consists of 6 flats you'd think he would just knock and ask. I told him when I saw him parking up a few days later but did not bother texting him on his mobile as he had asked fellow residents to do in his poster if they knew anything!

Apologies for the lack of paragraphs in my previous post.

digerd · 07/09/2012 19:44

Sorry as do like to sympathise with people, but not this time. I'd have been somewhat overwhelmed by this teenage boy's taking the touble at that time in the morning to care about someone's car getting wet - what a nice boy, I would think. Afterwards, it would seem a bit strange, but I think you may be too suspicious and not giving this boy credit for his thoughtfulness

Zombie thread.

MAYBELATERNOWIMBUSY · 07/09/2012 20:28

well , wait till someones car goes on fire !

pictish · 07/09/2012 20:35

Yanbu. I'd think fuck off it's 6.45!

As for going out in the rain to help him? I'll just utter a simple no to that. Don't be silly.

OrpheusDescending · 07/09/2012 20:50

I think I'd be quite pleased if dd1 got up early trying to be neighbourly.

But I don't think YABU because 6.45am is too early to be knocking on doors unless there is an emergency. I would advise dd to write a note next time so as not to wake anybody.

You are quite suspicious, though.
