to want to report someone flouting the hosepipe ban?

This is the 2nd time since the ban. First time I shrugged it off. Neighbour has several cars and employers local village handyman to clean his car(s) in between monthly valets- that guy uses buckets.
I am not sure if the pressure washer was attached to an outside tap or a portable water container. But in any case- is this not illegal? We have a shred drive so it was blatant.
V annoyed as lugging watering cans to my garden etc.
What would you do? Who would I contact?

Whereabouts are you in the country - most hosepipe bans have been lifted now.

usualsuspect · 29/06/2012 17:10

Hosepipe ban? We had more rain in one day yesterday than I've seen for years.

No I wouldn't report him, I couldn't be bothered tbh.

ChitChatFlyingby · 29/06/2012 17:12

Our area is still under a ban, but this is an exemption:

"The following class of user is excepted from the prohibition in this Notice in relation to cleaning private motor-vehicles:

Users who clean private motor vehicles for remuneration in the course of a trade or business."

So I guess as he does this in the course of his business he may well be exempt.

Ameliagrey · 29/06/2012 17:14

we are with Veolia- south east and ban still in place- checked website.

His main business is not cleaning cars- far from it- he does mainly grass cutting and you had to be registered as car cleaning being your main source of income before the hosepipe ban.

If you are going to do anything you contact your local water board - who else ? Hmm

Birdsgottafly · 29/06/2012 17:21

I think that everyone should flout the ban and force the water company to plow profits back into sorting this out.

The rest of the country are having floods, ffs.

NoComet · 29/06/2012 17:26

Oh FFS it's rained here pretty much everyday since we we're put into drought to the degree we were taken out again

Your neighbours probably forgot there is a ban.

Petsinmypudenda · 29/06/2012 17:28

There has been biblical rain for weeks, people are flooded out of their homes.

I really don't think your going to run out of water any time soon

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 29/06/2012 17:31

I don't think it's serious enough to be illegal, wouldn't it just be a civil offence?

Either way, YABVU. Stop being so nosy and concentrate on your own life. It sounds very narrow and like it could do with some help.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 29/06/2012 17:32

You can apparently use a pressure washer off a water butt.

But no, I wouldn't report him. Many of the hosepipe bans have been lifted and its not like we're short of water at the moment! Where in the country are you?

germyrabbit · 29/06/2012 17:33

blimey it's like communist china, reporting on your neighbours

germyrabbit · 29/06/2012 17:33

and look at how that turned out

Birdsgottafly · 29/06/2012 17:36

Or Nazi Germany, would you also have reported your neighbours hiding Jews because the policy of the time said that it was wrong?

oldraver · 29/06/2012 17:38

I wouldn't report anyone as hosepipe bans in this country are a joke

shewhowines · 29/06/2012 17:52

i would have done in the early days when water really was in danger but not now.

gothicangel · 29/06/2012 17:53

with the amount of rain/floods we have had i think your being a bit of a twat tbh,

maybe you need to get a hobby?

Bestb411pm · 29/06/2012 17:56

Feel free but your water board is unlikely to do anything other than let you vent. Bans are more about an exercise in awareness, no-one in authority really cares till we're heading towards a stand pipe situation.

Bloke from water company on radio four said so.

Dollydowser · 29/06/2012 17:59

Have you nothing better to do with your time than police your neighbours?

pinkpyjamas · 29/06/2012 18:04

I bet the dark winter nights just fly by round your way.

Think of the thrill of an unpermitted firework, or a dog walking quite close to a sheep, giving it a funny look.

akaemmafrost · 29/06/2012 18:05

Oh get a grip will you?

Liking the communist China analogy Grin.

MindTheElephant · 29/06/2012 18:10

water company are unlikely to do anything with the amount of rain we have had, so no point really.

UnChartered · 29/06/2012 18:11

OP you're taking the piss, right?

UnChartered · 29/06/2012 18:12

i've never said this before and meant it, but really is this all you've got to worry about Confused
