Ok so there's a bit of a 'love' story there and it's soft porn for those who like a bit of light bondage but on the whole it's just not very good.

It's not as erotic as the author probably thinks it is, it's extremely repetitive and predictable and is certainly not 'liberating' as some have said.

I'm also sure I'm not being unreasonable to think that noone other than in their teenage fantasies has an orgasm the first time they have sex or makes a guy come in 10 seconds the first time her lips ever touch a penis.

YANBU. I don't agree that it's personal choice either. There are well written captivating books and badly written drivel. This falls in the latter category.

SixFeetUnder · 25/06/2012 16:48

YANBU, the quality of the writing was poor, by the third chapter I was getting very bored of reading 'holy crap' every time she was surprised by something. And as someone on a previous thread said, the inner goddess was rather irritating.

I thought Christian was a tosser and Ana needed to grow a pair.

However, that said, I will definitely be going to see the movie with the lovely Ryan Gosling as Mr Grey

Fluffy1234 · 25/06/2012 17:14

Holy cow.

AllYouNeedIsAClickyBallpoint · 25/06/2012 17:17

Yanbu. I bought it for my kindle app this morning, and I'm going to delete it because it's utter shite.

loopylou6 · 25/06/2012 17:17

Yabu I adored them.

I've just finished reading a similar book which is a must if you loved fifty, called bared to you, Infact it might even be better, there's a book two and three to come too although there's no bondage in this book.

loopylou6 · 25/06/2012 17:18

Nooooooo give it a chance

CanISawItOff · 25/06/2012 17:21

Bites bottom lip

Yanbu its utter shit and im fed up with being called a prude because i didn't enjoy this poorly written banal drivel

Zippylovesgeorge · 25/06/2012 17:25

Its just the latest 'bandwagon' book 'rolls eyes'

Bit like the Saltwater Sandal of books - you have to have it coz the YummyMummy club say so ;)

minibmw2010 · 25/06/2012 17:25

I'm on book 3 because they were sold as a set and I persevered ... But Ana is very wet and a sap and the great Mr. Grey is a complete arse who likes women to be kept in their place by using aggression and violence ... Yep, he's a real prize !!! Angry

izzyizin · 25/06/2012 17:27

Bondage? It's got Bondage in it? Confused

I thought Ian Fleming was dead.

Has it been 'channelled' from beyond the grave?

Mintyy · 25/06/2012 17:29

God not another thread!

loopylou6 · 25/06/2012 23:32

Whatever Suzie, did it make you feel good clicking on a thread you didn't like just to
moan?

sheepsgomeeping · 26/06/2012 00:07

Ive just been de friended on facebook because I dared to comment on a status about how shit it is and how dodgy the characters are. All her mates were commentating oh isn't this book brilliant. Cant wait to read the second, the sex is brill, well I just had to stick my two pence worth in.

How on earth can people not see that Christian is an abusive bully??

FiftyShadesofViper · 26/06/2012 00:10

I'm sure it must be very uncomfortable to have sex that often with such vigour. I amazed she can sit down, walk normally, etc

sheepsgomeeping · 26/06/2012 00:18

I just lurve the way he took her virginity

'I fuck.. Hard'. And then shoved his cock up her very hard.

Classy.

booitsme · 29/06/2012 11:17

I Have read about 350 pages. Holy cow, double crap, holy shit.... Holy Smokes batman!

Aside from the fact that it is very poorly written, I genuinely find it disturbing. From what I have read so far, the hero was abused as a small child and 'deals' with that abuse by controlling and abusing the heroine. He can not bare to be touched, due to the previous abuse. He ensures that he is not touched, by restraining the victim during sex by using bondage. He was also Sexually abused from the age of 15, by his mothers friend, who introduced him to S & M. I would imagine that those who are in to S&M, are less than impressed with the book. It portrays S&M as a pursuit indulged by those who have serious emotional issues/ have been abused!

A mum at school today asked me what I thought about the book. I told her and she laughed at me and said only I would perceive the book in this way. Christian Gray is a hot sexy character who is just very open to S&M. Ok then, whatever you say.... I'm sure I have just totally misunderstood the sexy fun and that having S&M sex at the age of 15 with a mature woman, is just every mans fantasy and not abuse!!!!!

I just feel like the author has tried to create a sexually thrilling novel but has little understanding of S&M or the psychological issues resulting from abuse.

squeakytoy · 29/06/2012 11:20

the hero was abused as a small child

no he wasnt...

booitsme · 29/06/2012 11:39

Squeakytoy - I had the distinct impression he was abused as a small child, from what I have read so far. Perhaps I am mistaken. The marks on his chest, his comments about knowing what it is like to be hungry and without food.... I accept I am commenting prematurely as I have not finished the book.

minibmw2010 · 29/06/2012 11:48

Yes he was ... He was beaten up and had cigarettes put out on his skin by his birth mothers boyfriend/drug dealer. It's mentioned several times. Plus when he was 15 he was groomed for the kinky sex by his adopted mothers friend, 'Mrs Robinson'.

I think they both qualify as abuse ??
