Not all of us live in central london with a bus every 5 minutes you know!

yellowraincoat · 25/06/2012 15:52

What? People live outside London?

Why...the very idea!

Obviously everyone is going to have a different point where they think, "well I have to change this nappy, and I absolutely can't get off the bus, so I'll just have to do it here". And it depends partly on your circumstances and the frequency of your public transport!

I tend to only use the bus for short journeys, so it has never come up for me. I have got off a train a few times to change a dirty nappy though, and once to find a toilet for my older one (to the poster above who commented - the trains I tend to travel on don't have toilets). If I get off a train, I have to wait 20 to 30 mins for the next one, so not too bad, and I'd definitely rather that than change a nappy on a crowded train (or bus).

KellyElly · 25/06/2012 16:12

Is this still going? She waited until she got home don't you know Wink

bogeyface · 25/06/2012 16:13

Its pee and poo, not bloody anthrax!

TantrumsAndBalloons · 25/06/2012 16:13

So if it's an hour journey, the dc is question is miserable and has a sore bum then you would rather a parent waited until they got home, knowing their dc was in distress?

That's quite a harsh attitude.

What would offend you do much about a nappy being changed?

DamselInTornDress · 25/06/2012 16:14

Ah this thread has made me Hmm

So what's the etiquette if little one has a bad case of the squirts. Or projectile vomits all over?

Evacuate?

amieis · 25/06/2012 17:36

Apparantly I'm still waiting on the bus going round in circles, a whole day later, waiting for mumsnet to give me permission kelly.... Hmm
I can't believe that this has resulted in an 8 page thread... Blush

No- I just don't have lower middle class sensibilities Grin.

BlackOutTheSun · 25/06/2012 18:30

Well I really could not give a shit if someone thought I was common or unacceptable to change dd's nappy

Right now she has got nappy rash back to front and going down her thighs. Like fuck I would leave her in a wet/dirty nappy

mumeeee · 25/06/2012 18:36

YABU Get off or wait until you get home.

pumpkinsweetie · 25/06/2012 18:44

I think it comes down to each individual child tbh, if the baby is perfectly happy to wait it is best to leave it but if the baby has skin problems or is going to cry the whole journey i don't think it is fair for the child to be uncomfortable.
I wouldn't bat an eyelid to someone changing their little one's bum, it doesn't bother me but obviously do it discretely due to the many wierdos about these days.
My 3yo when still in nappies used to get extremely sore patchy exzema on her bottom and on occasion i would have to change her due to the intense pain from the urine burning it.
Anyone that takes offense to a nappy change on a bus or train clearly has ishoos

TBH I would rather anything than a wailing baby for half an hour. Even the smell of baby poo although I know it's just a wet one.

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 25/06/2012 18:49

I agree everlong

"Buy better nappies, change more often, keep her clean, use a barrier cream"

blackoutthesun is refering to this bit of your post i think? meaning this has all been covered adn sometimes it doesnt make a difference what nappy you use, how often you change them or if you use barrier cream etc, they will still get sore really quickly unless they are changed straight away, so sometimes needs must and that includes changing a baby on a bus, or in my case a train.

PooPooInMyToes · 25/06/2012 19:26

CoteDAzur Sun 24-Jun-12 20:07:58 YABU. If your baby's skin is SO sensitive that it pee nappies need to be changed immediately, cover her bum up in nappy rash cream before you get on public transportation. Or buy better nappies.

This really isn't enough for some babies. One of mine used to get very, very sore indeed, very, very quickly. We used cream every time, tried different ones (found metanium worked best), would change nappy frequently, clean carefully, used decent nappies (tried different ones), but she would still be fine one minute and then do a wee and have red raw bottom the next. She often had blisters that would come out of no where and would be so distraught with the discomfort. It must have hurt!

If you think its simple as some cream and buying more expensive nappies then you have clearly no experience of this.

Op. My daughter turned out (long after being potty trained) to have a dairy intolerance. I have no idea is this was linked but do wonder.
