i have been, erm, over indulging lately Blush and have put on a few pounds ...i am tiny, 5 foot 2 and any excess weight really shows on me.

and am going on holiday in 2 weeks

i want to lose 7lbs by the time i go away.

is this even possible? and has any one got any tips or ideas to help please?

YABU to think you can do it healthily or to think that it would be a good idea.

If you care only about how much you weigh in 2 weeks' time, and not about whether you mess up your metabolism getting there, then YANBU, it probably is possible. It's just not advisable.

InMySpareTime · 24/06/2012 16:35

I wouldn't advise losing weight that quickly, you'll probably end up malnourished and not enjoy your holiday.
You might be best toning up problem areas like your tummy or bottom with exercise such as swimming or Pilates, so the same weight is better defined.

You can lose 7lb in one week. You will put it all back on again though as you will have to virtually starve calorie wise.

Cut out carbs. Eat plenty of fat and protein, come over to see he bootcamp threads on Big? Slim/Whatever.
'tis great!

mummymeister · 24/06/2012 16:38

I have several stones to lose and have just lost 4kgs in 2 weeks with slimming world but thats because i have loads to get shot of. most people at my group are losing 1lb or 21b a week at most. if you do shift it using something like the Atkins diet then all the time you are away it will be going back on. not sure this kind of speed dieting is good in the long run so would suggest you aim to lose a pound or two a week and continue it throughout your hols.

WhiteWidow · 24/06/2012 16:41

All you'll do is lose water, you won't even be able to tell you've lost 7lbs.

Jins · 24/06/2012 16:44

At 5'2" 7lbs really shows. However if it's all you need to lose before a holiday I really wouldn't bother

curiositykitten · 24/06/2012 16:46

I joined Slimming World on the 13th, and lost 7lbs in my first week. I have a LOT more to lose than that though.

MistyRocks · 24/06/2012 16:49

At 5'2" 7lbs really shows - yeah thats what i mean jins

i saw a video of myself that dh took yesterday (not THAT kind of video.... ;) ) and i really did look porky :(

i hate being this short, if i was taller i could get away with it, grrr

At your height and presumably fairly low weight you will not lose more than 2lb a week and that will be hard work, but it should make a difference to how you feel so worth doing.

sparkle12mar08 · 24/06/2012 16:51

Perfectly possible to do healthily though it will be about 5lbs of water weight. And it certainly will show, you'll lose the bloatedness you probably don't notice and you'll feel flatter and slimmer round the waist too.

Cut processed carbs right down, up your vegetable and salad (not fruit) intake hugely and look carefully at your protein intake - you'll need to increase it and balance it across the day. Don't try and do low fat - it's usually synonymous with high sugar.

Jins · 24/06/2012 16:51

The thing is though that if you crash diet 7lbs off you now when you go on holiday you'll throw it back on. Better to start a plan now that you can carry on while you're on holiday

ErikNorseman · 24/06/2012 16:52

Those who lose loads of weight when they start a diet tend to have a fair bit to lose, so it's easier to create a significant calorie deficit. If you are 5'2 and a size 12 for eg you can't create that kind of deficit without literally starving yourself.

MistyRocks · 24/06/2012 16:54

i'm 8 stone 4 and imo look my best about 7 stone 7 although aiming for about 7 stone 10.

i know that sounds tiny but for me it isn't, i look just right at a bit under 8 stone

yet, bizarrely, pre kids i was 8 stone 7 and looked and felt slimmer, how the F does that work???

aargh hate being female sometimes

You are well within the healthy weight range for your height, so I fear you'll be very unlikely to lose that weight in that time - not safely at least!

Jins · 24/06/2012 20:40

Well 7st7 at 5'2" give you a BMI less than 19 which is underweight. 7st10 gets you to BMI 19.5 which is pretty much borderline. You are currently at BMI 20.8

You're not going to lose 7lbs in 2 weeks at that BMI and I don't think you should either. I honestly think that at that sort of BMI you should look at toning exercises rather than weight loss

Probably not what you want to hear but I really don't feel comfortable giving weightloss advice to someone who is aiming to get to a BMI that is virtually underweight.

Sorry :(

allibaba · 24/06/2012 20:42

I've just lost 3lbs in a week from a particularly nasty stomach bug (both ends job - not nice Blush)

Wouldn't recommend it, or losing that much weight so quickly anyway

janelikesjam · 24/06/2012 23:06

Its sad that a woman with a BMI under 19 is desperate to lose half a stone in 2 weeks. 5 ft 2 in is slightly lower than average woman but hardly tiny.

pjmama · 24/06/2012 23:09

You're going on holiday in a fortnight - forget the weight loss (it's too late and it's no fun starving yourself), enjoy your holiday and plan to eat healthily and exercise when you get home!

QueenMaeve · 24/06/2012 23:15

30 day shred dvd, its the only way

PorkyandBess · 24/06/2012 23:17

Cut out your carbs.

2 weeks? It will fall off.

droves · 24/06/2012 23:19

You don't need to lose weight , you need to tone up ( possibly) .

Do the shred DVD . It's amazing.
