To wash my underwired bras in my washing machine, do you??

Hi there - all of my bras are underwired. I have a sparkly new washing machine. The instructions dictate that I am NOT to wash said bras in said machine. Now I have been warned this before but have washed said bras in other machines (only 2 machines ever, one, second hand, had for 10 years and the second, had from new for nearly 13 years - just so you know I don't have the bodies of hundreds of wrecked machines strewn behind me!!) and have never had a problem but now I've just got new one and spent a small fortune(to me) on it I am reluctant to do it and have now built up a rather large pile of worn bras and have been wearing this last one for ages a wee while and I had my hair (on my head) cut in it so it's a bit furry and am dithering...

What would you do??

Yes, but I put them in a porous zip bag along with my hosiery and wash them at 30 deg for 30 minutes and nonbio powder.

I would chuck them in. But you could put them in a pillowcase or something to buffer a bit more. You can get special bags too I think

I've always washed underwired in the washing machine. I'm certainly not going to start handwashing if I ever get a new machine!

Just check to make sure they are intact before you put them in and no wire sticking out. I did once have a wire come out in the machine and it had slipped through the holes. It was poking out one hole through so I could easily retrieve it. I check the wire isn't sticking out now.

I'd be more concerned for the bras as my bras cost a small fortune but i still machine wash them. I've also never had an issue with any washing machine I've owned.

If you're worried about the underwire coming out and breaking your machine put your bras in a laundry net when you're loading. That's what I do. Life is too bloody short for hand washing IMO.

I wash them in the dogs bowl.

I would just check that the bras aren't worn out and falling apart like mine and wash on a very gentle wash with slow spin.

Yes, I do. Have not ever wrecked a bra or a washing machine.

It's never caused my washing machines a problem. I, on the other hand, generally spend most of my days being stabbed in my cleavage or under my armpit by escaped underwires. Ruin your bras at your own peril and that of your soon to be perforated bosom!

Mine did that alphabite, the washer didn't sound terribly happy, so I stopped it, and removed the wire.

The washer's absolutely fine. Can't say the same for the bra though, and it was one of my favourites .

I do too. Do them on the handwash cycle. So far so good.

I wash mine in the machine. I have never had a problem in the washing machine, but I did have one come out in the tumble drier and needed a repair man to come out and fix it (the drier, not the bra), luckily it was rented, so didn't cost me!

I don't think I've hurt the washing machine but I have snapped the wires in more than one bra. They go in fine, they come out broken in half. Could just be me overloading the drum though. Never lost a wire as such, so go for it! Just don't overload!

Ah now that's another thing - wherever do you buy these bags? They're always recommended but I have never wanted one befor - have now scoured Asda, Lidl and Home Bargains so far and cannot track one down - apparently new machine has a bit of a reputation for eating children's socks!

As well as potential underwire issues, the elastic used in bras may stretch more in the machine. I was told about this when I worked for figleaves and actually experimented with two identical, except for colour, bras of mine and the band on the one I machine washed (once a week for 3 months) is larger and now rides up my back on the tightest set of hooks. The other (handwashed once a week 3 months) fits a little bit looser - but only one set of hooks in, which is what is expected after 3-4 months. Ive had to get rid of the machine washed one.

Since I wear bras that are on the more pricey side Im sticking to handwashing from now on.

I have always put underwired bras in the washing machine.I would never entertain the idea of handwashing them .
Given that I have read about how the loose wire can get caught in the holes and shred the next wash and I have just purchased a new AEG machine I might consider spending 99p on a washing net - just in case you understand.

i always have, i dont think i even read the instructions that came with my washing machine so have no idea if it said not to! tbh the machine was pretty self explanatory so no need to read the instructions!i am sure i still have them somewhere, we always keep stuff like that with the guarantee etc.
