How can Prince William campaign against rhino poaching when he happily kills other animals for sport?

I genuinely can't get my head around this. Am I missing something?

Yes, slip of the tongue with the fox hunting. It very much happens, though, despite being illegal.

I eat deer and boar (shoot deer myself), so can't really get upset at somebody else killing them. If there were only 100 deer left in the wild and in need of protection, I might feel differently. Surely only then it would be comparable to hunting rhino?

Bluegrass · 19/06/2012 11:11

Vast difference between shooting an animal which is in no danger of extinction for food (is just occupying a rung on the food chain) and hunting a species to extinction to use its magic horn.

Aboutlastnight · 19/06/2012 11:11

Maybe he likes rhinos better...

GrahamTribe · 19/06/2012 11:13

He can't. He's a cunt for his treatment of animals in this respect, as is anyone who hunts/shoots etc.

ExitPursuedByABear · 19/06/2012 11:14

The programme on TV last night about the wildlife of London said that the deer in Richmond Park are regularly culled, at night, to keep the population in check.

I presume that professional marksmen are used.

Just imagine if it was done during the day and people could pay to have a go......

eurochick · 19/06/2012 11:14

I eat meat. Animals are therefore killed to feed me. I have never hunted but would provided what I killed was going to be eaten (I have fished in this way).

I would never kill an animal purely for sport. I would never hunt an endangered animal.

Do you see the difference?

Bluegrass · 19/06/2012 11:15

People who hunt their own food are cunts?

Rhubarbgarden · 19/06/2012 11:15

YANBU. How anyone can find killing animals fun is beyond me.

Mrsjay · 19/06/2012 11:15

A rhino isnt farmed for food and they are killed for their horn and nothing else , a pheasant or rabbit is used for food , deer are culled to protect the population, I am not into the whole killing of animals thing but it is totally different,

GrahamTribe · 19/06/2012 11:16

People who abuse and kill animals as William does are cunts, yes, Bluegrass. How much more clearly do you need it?

Mrsjay · 19/06/2012 11:17

OH exit wasnt that a fab programme sorry to go off topic but i found it fascinating Smile

Bluegrass · 19/06/2012 11:18

You said anyone who hunts or shoots is a cunt. I just find that rather an extreme view, although I understand some people hold it. I try to avoid them though !

GrahamTribe · 19/06/2012 11:18

Yes, that's what I said, Bluegrass.

bronze · 19/06/2012 11:18

Vegan graham?

Pheasant shooting is pretty much pheasant farming.
Just that some strike it lucky and they all live much nicer lives than, for example chickens.
Pheasants rabbits and deer are not rare and the animals are used unlike a rhino that they just take the horn from

Graham are you vegetarian?

Many people who hunt kill cleaner and more quickly than plenty of abbatoirs in this country.

I suspect that William, with years of shooting behind him, if not in that category soon will be. Personally I have far less of a problem with my conscience eating game shot cleanly than eating supermarket chicken/pork/beef.

AnyoneForTennis · 19/06/2012 11:20

In your opinion Graham which isn't shared by everyone!

ExitPursuedByABear · 19/06/2012 11:20

Wasn't it MrsJay - Who knew all those scorpions were living in London Shock

And as for the seal at Billingsgate Grin

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 19/06/2012 11:20

I'm pro hunting. That doesn't mean that I'm anti conservation!
I don't really see a link personally!

buttonmoon78 · 19/06/2012 11:20

Oh. I see I'm late to that argument!

GrahamTribe · 19/06/2012 11:20

Yes, I'm vegan. Very much so.

Sarcalogos · 19/06/2012 11:21

Graham your argument is faintly ridiculous and nonsensical.

Do you know what the word cunt means?

People who hunt non endangered animals for food are ethically no different from any meat eater. Are they all cunts? Because if so I think you are confusing the word cunt with the word carnivore.

GrahamTribe · 19/06/2012 11:22

Scorpions in London? What have I missed?!

exexpat · 19/06/2012 11:22

I'm a vegetarian and anti-hunting but I can still see there is a very big difference between hunting non-endangered animals for sport, and poaching critically endangered animals for spurious medical uses.

I don't approve of either, but anyone who speaks out against the latter has my support.

Also interesting that he can see that there is no scientific basis for the medicinal use of rhino horn, even though he was presumably brought up with his father's views on alternative medicine (homeopathy etc - but perhaps since that is Western unscientific medicine it is OK).

Mrsjay · 19/06/2012 11:23

I am nowhere near london so i was thinking a few foxes tonnes of pigeons , Yes they believe they came in on boats grahams I loved the seal and i think those big burly men were putty in her flippers Grin
