AIBU to want to buy a coloured bathroom suite??

I can't stand white suites - they're just not my bag. I also think colours are going to come back soon in a big way Wink.

I really want either a primrose or light green suite when we renovate our dreadful old bathroom (hopefully later this year) but I'm really struggling to find suppliers other than specialist companies who will make 'replacement' items for people who want to keep their old suite but need to replace e.g. a cistern or bath panel. I've also seen a few second hand 'vintage' suites (including a gorgeous art deco one) but I really want a new one as I don't think it would be easy to find one in barely-used pristine condition.

I just want to buy a whole suite in a nice colour - surely I can't be alone? Confused

What you may need is a time machine :o

Springforward · 18/06/2012 18:36

I used to lodge in a house where the bathroom suite was baby pink and the tiles black - they just about pulled it off I think because the fittings were older, chunky and quite quirky in design, and the tiles were beautifully glossy.

But - I'm househunting at the moment, and anything but white makes DH and I mentally add the cost of a new bathroom to the budget.

Sad

FIL ripped out their primrose suite about 5 years ago and has been regretting it loudly ever since. My DMum still has an avocado one! I would go that far - something subtle I think. Like on Kirstie's Homemade Home.

It would be tasteful and stylish. And anyway, we're too poor to move house so resale value is irrelevant! Wink

I wouldn't go that far

If you're going to go retro then really go for it........how about dark brown or burgundy

At least you wouldn't see the skid marks! Wink

JumpingThroughHoops · 18/06/2012 18:42

It must just be you - because if it were popular then they would be in mainstream DIY shops.

I could do an AIBU to not buy a house because the bathroom suite was sunshine yellow ?

Maamekin · 18/06/2012 18:44

You should watch

emsyj · 18/06/2012 18:45

No, I'm aiming for subtle Norbert! Something warmer than stark white!

I know they are not currently fashionable, but I do think they will return. YWBU to not buy a house because of a yellow suite though! Although there are shades of yellow - I"m talking about the pretty, light, pastelly yellow, not a babypoo yellow.

MARRY ME, I love coloured bathroom suites. DH thinks I'm the only one in the entire universe.
We had a cream suite (which was looking worse for wear) & we had to put in a white one for resale. :(

DesperateBauhausWife · 18/06/2012 18:46

I'd love a coloured bathroom suite too. Just saying.

PorkyandBess · 18/06/2012 18:46

But where on earth would you get one?

And yuck btw, I don't think they'll come back anytime soon!

Tabliope · 18/06/2012 18:49

You're not alone - I want one too and my next door neighbour. She had primrose yellow in her first house and wishes she still had it. There is a website I found that sells every shade under the sun. I'll see if I can find it again.

TodaysAGoodDay · 18/06/2012 18:49

We bought a new house. With a beautiful white suite. First thing FWX says is 'let's change it for an avocado one Shock. He truly has no taste! Bleh.
Got as far as B & Q, the assistant says 'nobody sells them anymore, they de-value your house too much'. FWX was so disappointed heehee.

OK, for the naysayers, <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&sa=X&biw=1163&bih=517&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=RYRha08ZrEbGsM:&imgrefurl=www.salvoweb.com/bathroom/forsale-2.html%3Fkey%3Dart%2Bdeco&docid=WYQc7rFF8j8HEM&imgurl=www.salvoweb.com/images/userimgs/34085/41144_1.jpg&w=900&h=675&ei=-GnfT_GLHdOl8gOgg52rCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=868&vpy=160&dur=696&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=153&ty=112&sig=107945346174162943221&page=1&tbnh=155&tbnw=207&start=0&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0,i:84" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this is what I have in mind - not an avocado, a shit brown or a whisper pink in sight!

Pleased to see there are a few folk with a bit of taste coming out of the woodwork now - yay for coloured bathroom suite lovers! Grin

Not sure if this was the place. Haven't got time to look into it as have to leave in 5 mins. You could email them for a quote.

NorbertDentressangle · 18/06/2012 18:52

Lordy! Take a look here

Not only do they have a black bathroom suite but you can also get snakeskin and crocodile patterned too !

PorkyandBess · 18/06/2012 18:52

Sorry op, that bathroom is truly gopping.

I hope this link works. Is this what you are after?

Tabliope · 18/06/2012 18:53

I think that's beautiful emsyj. I look at property on Rightmove a lot and I hate the current trend for bathrooms - white suite and big beige/brown or black tiles right up to the ceiling. It's like they're supposed to be a boutique hotel or something and the first thing I think is I'd have to get rid of the tiles.

MarySA · 18/06/2012 18:58

I read a while back that coloured suites were going to come back into fashion. The bathroom companies have to make their money somehow I suppose in these hard times. If you want a coloured suite then have one.

emsyj · 18/06/2012 19:06

Yes passivehoovering, that sort of thing - looks like the site you've mentioned has some better pics of the different styles they do. The one I had found seemed to just make parts to match other suites (rather than offering full new suites in colours).

I agree Tabliope.

I inspect houses for work. All the bathrooms look the same! Great big beige tiles, usually with some really dark brick shaped ones in there somewhere too.

I get very excited if I see a stylish, individual looking bathroom but I don't think I've seen one in over a year.

IHaveAFeatureWallAndILikeIt · 18/06/2012 19:15

get light pink. Then you can buy a white suite and swap it for my pink one that I want to get rid of!

GothAnneGeddes · 18/06/2012 19:19

YANBU!!!! I absolutely weep at the "boutique hotel beige" look".

Whenever I see one of these property shows and they rip out the old kitchen and bathroom in the name of some modern blandity I feel sad inside.

I still remember this house on LLL with a pristine '60's bathroom suite.

As for an Art Deco bathroom....

Ours is a white tile grouting hell disappointment.
