AIBU to want to buy a coloured bathroom suite??

I can't stand white suites - they're just not my bag. I also think colours are going to come back soon in a big way Wink.

I really want either a primrose or light green suite when we renovate our dreadful old bathroom (hopefully later this year) but I'm really struggling to find suppliers other than specialist companies who will make 'replacement' items for people who want to keep their old suite but need to replace e.g. a cistern or bath panel. I've also seen a few second hand 'vintage' suites (including a gorgeous art deco one) but I really want a new one as I don't think it would be easy to find one in barely-used pristine condition.

I just want to buy a whole suite in a nice colour - surely I can't be alone? Confused

I'm also fed up of the wooden fitted kitchen cabinets and black granite worktop look (sorry to everyone that has that). Usually with black tiles or red recently. I've been searching Rightmove on and off for years and that is what the majority seem to have. That plus the boutique bathroom.

If its not white, it has to be bright is my bathroom mantra. Ours is white. With bright walls to get some personality into it that can be erased if we need to sell up!

travailtotravel · 18/06/2012 21:02

Love Norbert's links. I want a red sink and a cow print toilet now ... !!

PoppyWearer · 18/06/2012 21:03

Me too, travail!

cakeismysaviour · 18/06/2012 21:10

I really really want a turquoise bathroom suite.

Hate being in rented accommodation. :(

cabbagesoup · 18/06/2012 21:10

Oh you'd love my parents rented house they have a purple suite! deep dark purple with pink tiles, it's a joy!!

noddyholder · 18/06/2012 21:12

They are back

IHeartKingThistle · 18/06/2012 21:12

Oh those patchwork tiles with the turquoise sink are to DIE for! I let DH choose everything for our en-suite (big grey tiles, white suite, meh) so I am definitely doing what I want in the family bathroom!

Our downstairs toilet and hand basin are bright dark blue. I love the basin but there's something about a dark blue toilet interior that is just a bit odd Grin. OP I think the pastels sound lovely though.

Just read that back and it sounds like I'm intent on telling everyone how many bathrooms I have Blush

noddyholder · 18/06/2012 21:15

Estate agent laughed at me last week as he showed me the houses luxury bathroom and it was a symphony in limestone and white and I told him it would all have to go! Grin The salvo one is stunning

cakeismysaviour · 18/06/2012 21:16

cabbagesoup - Wow! Grin

Our landlord must have decided that a white bathrrom suite just wasn't white enough on its own, so he teamed it with white walls, white floor and white tiles. Hmm

soontobemumofthree · 18/06/2012 21:18

Maybe a suite that is grey, maybe minty green or blue, but sorry think apricot/peachy and avocado colours look retro but not in a good way yet!!
Probably will come back at some stage, agree lots of new bathrooms look too similar.

Krumbum · 18/06/2012 21:23

My house has a light green one and it's nice. I agree about white, it's a bit like double glazing, all plasticky looking. My old house had a brown suite though and that was hideous!

noddyholder · 18/06/2012 21:24

lovely

Greatauntirene · 18/06/2012 21:27

We once moved into a house with a pampas bathroom and avocado shower room two shades of snot green !

Greatauntirene · 18/06/2012 21:28

Gosh, I'd forgotten the maroon suite in a v hard water area.................nice!

Greatauntirene · 18/06/2012 21:29

Primrose yellow is a bit sickly imo, maybe the new yellow ones are pleasanter.

emsyj · 18/06/2012 21:29

Ooooh love that one noddy... Maybe I should look at some salvage yard options - although I have an icky thing about not wanting a second hand loo. Could get a vintage bath and then a new ceramic set though...

First flat had a 'biscuit' suite in a room the size of a shoebox, that had been teamed with bright ORANGE walls Shock. Ex's grandparent's house still has chocolate brown suite, and his Aunty's house has scarlet Shock

Selks · 18/06/2012 21:40

Actually I think coloured sinks, loos and baths can look brilliant if done 'right'. I reckon the thing is to go for bold statement colours like sink or these suites, both of which could look amazing if the other fittings such as tiles and flooring is done well.
I'd have that paprika coloured loo and sink in my cloakroom with pale grey matte tiles on the floor or something similar.

MsVestibule · 18/06/2012 21:40

What's wrong with a second hand loo??? Surely a good clean (obviously without using a loo brush Wink) would make it OK?

I replaced my bathroom in the mid 90s, just before the law was passed to make it illegal to put anything but a white suite in. So in 2007/8, every potential buyer turned their nose up at my lovely, expensive, cream suite and mentally deducted £3k from the asking price Hmm.

Selks · 18/06/2012 21:42

Bugger the links didn't work. if you want to see them go to 'home' in the page then they're on the right. Please note I am not recommending the mock croc patterened sink also on there! Shock

RoxyRobin · 18/06/2012 21:45

I've still got the pale green one that was here when we moved in! People keep asking when are we getting a new one but I've been dragging my feet because it actually looks very nice - quite restful and soothing. But it's starting to look very distressed so I will have to get rid of it I suppose.

I'd have the same colour again if I could!

Grumpla · 18/06/2012 21:47

I loved my primrose suite but needed a new bath and the cost of replacing it was more than a whole new suite!!!

Our primrose loo was salvaged by a smart architect friend for installation in a swanky London flat so you're probably right about them coming back into fashion Smile

cakeismysaviour · 18/06/2012 21:49

Selks - I do really really like the red and green sinks and toilets on that site, but the mock croc ones are just.....

Devora · 18/06/2012 21:50

I think you're a trailblazer, OP. My bathroom is white with those big beige travertine tiles and I hate, hate, hate it. Go for it Smile
