AIBU to want to buy a coloured bathroom suite??

I can't stand white suites - they're just not my bag. I also think colours are going to come back soon in a big way Wink.

I really want either a primrose or light green suite when we renovate our dreadful old bathroom (hopefully later this year) but I'm really struggling to find suppliers other than specialist companies who will make 'replacement' items for people who want to keep their old suite but need to replace e.g. a cistern or bath panel. I've also seen a few second hand 'vintage' suites (including a gorgeous art deco one) but I really want a new one as I don't think it would be easy to find one in barely-used pristine condition.

I just want to buy a whole suite in a nice colour - surely I can't be alone? Confused

I don't like white, it's so cold and clinical. There used to be some lovely colours available, we had a beautiful green suite in the last house. Not avocado, I think it was called Wild Sage, a bluish green. And there was a nice dusky rose pink, don't know what it was called though.

Colours will definitely come back, I'm amazed they ever went out of fashion tbh.

AgathaFusty · 18/06/2012 19:40

Have you seen this site? Also search for coloured bathroom suite on ebay, there are a few on there.

I think they're due a return too, maybe not the avocado and pink ones of the seventies and eighties, but perhaps black, grey, beige etc.

PoppyWearer · 18/06/2012 19:40

What would be really cool is very bright, in-your-face suites. Or patterned.

No, really. Plain white or black tiles on the walls and then a fab bright red, green or blue bath! Amazing!

Just me?

I cannot abide pastel colours.

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2012 19:40

If I remember rightly, coloured bathroom suites devalue your home

So I hope you're nothing thinking of selling within the foreseeable future?

I would love a coloured suite. I saw a lilac one and it was beautiful.

AgathaFusty · 18/06/2012 19:42

Anyone remember those pink scallop shaped ones with gold taps and plugs?

We had an avocado suite, with green and brown striped wallpaper (which my aunt declared looked "very fresh"!) and a green carpet. The horror!

Catsmamma · 18/06/2012 19:44

When I am Queen of The World coloured bahroom suites with be illegal and to install one will be punishable by death,

One exception would be a lovely original armitage shanks turquoise/aqua

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2012 19:46

According to this link, they might be on their way back Shock

NorbertDentressangle · 18/06/2012 20:01

PoppyWearer -have a look at my earlier link for bright colours and patterned suites!

PoppyWearer · 18/06/2012 20:03

Ooh, thanks Norbert. Love them!

(Apologies, I don't normally click on links for fear of waking slumbering DCs with video clips.)

By 'light green' do you mean...avocado? Shock

Personally, I wouldn't. But hey, it's not my money or my bathroom so go nuts.

I once viewed a flat (way out of my league but I'd always wanted to have a nose inside of the building) which had 3 bathrooms - each with a different coloured suite. One pink, one avocado and one burgandy. It was awesome in a really hideous way.

HandMadeTail · 18/06/2012 20:12

What about something like this ?

We have a freestanding bath, (same brand, not the same bath) which we painted the outside of (grammar!). We actually had it sprayed by a car body shop, but I think you could paint it with a brush.

emsyj · 18/06/2012 20:16

No, light green in my view is not avocado - my DMum has an avocado suite (and carpet in the bathroom! ) I do like the aqua colours too. The light green I had in mind would be like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?start=85&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1163&bih=517&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=p9jMTLlktpBlYM:&imgrefurl=www.salvo.co.uk/eastsussex/bathroom/fourpiece-pale-mintgreen-bathroom-suite-x51064x1.html&docid=L0O1u80E9iCg3M&imgurl=www.salvo.co.uk/images/userimgs/39759/51064_2.jpg&w=600&h=900&ei=G37fT83AHses8QPal_nKCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=737&vpy=5&dur=1402&hovh=275&hovw=183&tx=86&ty=85&sig=107945346174162943221&page=7&tbnh=156&tbnw=115&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:85,i:14" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this.

I love how marmite coloured suites are! Grin

No plans to move Worra - we like the location, the neighbours, the schools - and we can't afford more space in this area, so it's renovate/extend or bust - no chance of a move anytime soon!

Then feel free to enjoy your Avocado suite with shag pile carpet on the bath panel, furry toilet seat cover and knitted loo roll holder Grin

emsyj · 18/06/2012 20:20

I do like that idea HandMade - just a coloured outer rather than coloured all over. This is a post war house and our neighbour is just in the process of ripping out the original suite from their house (bought from an elderly lady who had lived there without doing any work from day one) - it's a white cast iron bath and their tiles are those very flat white subway style ones with a beautiful trim of teal edging. Sadly, their bathroom isn't salvageable as the tiles are so damaged from various bathing aids that were screwed into the wall - otherwise I'd have gone over and hand-removed the entire thing and reinstalled it in our house!

I'd love a turquoise suite (crawls out of the woodwork) Grin

Weve just replaced our 1970s suite with a lovely white one.

The gypsies took everything from outside apart from the suite. So nasty they didnt want it!

Coloured suites are NASTY

Clawdy · 18/06/2012 20:44

Yes,sick to death of white suites. The very dark coloured ones(we had one in chocolate brown!!) were a pain to clean because they showed every bit of dust or cleaning product, but the pastel ones were so much nicer, and easier to clean than the boring white ones.

mosschops30 · 18/06/2012 20:45

Meant to say avocado

Tabliope · 18/06/2012 20:48

I love the colour of this sink too (even quite like the tiles with it - sorry I don't know how to put the link in properly)

www.notonthehighstreet.com/welbecktiles/product/patchwork-tiles

Glad a few of you knew what I meant by the beige/brown boutique hotel look. They are everywhere. I also think coloured suites are due a revival (some colours anyway).

CrunchyFrog · 18/06/2012 20:48

My most favourite bathroom I have ever had was decked out with bright turquoise suite and black and white floor tiles. It was SO cool. Original taps etc. Sadly no heating in the room, but it made me happy every time I went in there.

I have a sand coloured suite here and quite like that too. And tongue and groove on the walls, which would be nicer if it didn't have 47382943 coats of gloss on it.
