Dresses on Girls

Mother2many · 13/06/2012 19:37

I'm I unreasonable to think that younger girls who wear dresses should also wear "bloomers/shorts" or something under their dress so, their panties don't show?

Blush

My daughter is turning 7 next weekend, and she still makes sure she has something under her dress, esp, if its a short/shorter one...

Yes, it depends on what she is doing too... Going for a nice supper/concert, no.... something underneath isn't necessary, as she won't be laying on the floor, playing, climbing on the monkey bars, etc.etc.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but when I see a bunch of kids sitting on the ground playing, chances are the girls don't worry about their panties showing...

jmho...

Oh ffs....

tittytittyhanghang · 13/06/2012 19:40

YABU.

Bloomers are just fancy pants imo so would defeat the purpose.

picnicbasketcase · 13/06/2012 19:40

Oh, chuff off. Can't you just let them play like small children instead of bringing them up to be paranoid about looking ladylike?

ripsishere · 13/06/2012 19:41

No of course you aren't being unreasonable. Why should young ladies have to tolerate people looking at their panties.
My 11 YO DD, wears shorts, pants and a pair of tracksuit bottoms. It does make her school dresses hang strangely, but fortunately she doesn't mind.
Rather that than smelly mucky boys looking up her skirt.

pantaloons · 13/06/2012 19:41

My 2 dd's are fine in dresses as they don't wear panties. You might see their knickers occasionally though.

clemetteattlee · 13/06/2012 19:41

Why can't they show their pants?

WilsonFrickett · 13/06/2012 19:41

YABU for using the word 'panties'.

Ick.

AuntPepita · 13/06/2012 19:42

panties

CrunchyFrog · 13/06/2012 19:43

There's a fashion at DD's school for all the little girls (from p1 FFS!) to wear leggings under their school dress.

Put them in trousers, for crying out loud, if you're so worried about them showing their knicks!

WorraLiberty · 13/06/2012 19:43

You do realise that if a boy sees a girl's knickers in the playground they have to marry her don't you?

picnicbasketcase · 13/06/2012 19:43

YY to the 'panties' objection. Only 'moist' is as comparably awful.

usualsuspect · 13/06/2012 19:43

just shudder at the OP really

Psammead · 13/06/2012 19:43

I think knickers cover up their private parts perfectly adequately, which at that age they might worry about.

I don't think it's in any way offensive to see 7 year old's knickers!

picnicbasketcase · 13/06/2012 19:44

That sentence looks all kinds of wrong.

ripsishere · 13/06/2012 19:44

No, don't be unkind. Panties is just the sort of twee word my DD loves. She is also partial to raiments, afternoon tea with cucumber sandwiches and a sweet sherry.

FuckedOfftotheFarSideofFuck · 13/06/2012 19:44

my 4 year old is just emerging from a dresses only phase.

I do encourage her not to display her pants in the normal course of sitting down and so on but am not worried about it while she is running around and playing - they are just cotton pants!

I have mentioned the advantages of shorts and so on as not showing pants when upside down on the monkey bars as I was trying to persuade her to wear the shorts I bought but I have not said that it matters if her pants do show, IYSWIM, she certainly doesn't seem to worry about it and that's fine by me.

seeker · 13/06/2012 19:44

What's wrong with 7 year old's pants showing occasionally? Unless they are thongs, or crotchless or see through or something.......

Mrsjay · 13/06/2012 19:45
Pochemuchka · 13/06/2012 19:45

YABU for saying 'panties'
I found myself unable to read any more of your OP when I saw that word.
Yuk.

usualsuspect · 13/06/2012 19:46

Lol @ bloomers

Mrsjay · 13/06/2012 19:46

and little girls have been sitting cross legged with pants showing forever ,maybe put trousers on the if you are concerned

WorraLiberty · 13/06/2012 19:47

Gusset

That's another horrible word

Gusset Gusset Gusset

Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!

stargirl1701 · 13/06/2012 19:49

Panties is American right? Ewwwww!

Hulababy · 13/06/2012 19:50

DD wears dresses a lot but have never felt the need for her to wear more than knickers under her dress tbh. Her pants appear to cover her up quite adequately. Why do we then need to cover her knickers as well?

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but when I see a bunch of kids sitting on the ground playing, chances are the girls don't worry about their panties showing...

What are you paranoid about? About random peadophiles getting a kick from seeing a girl's knickers? 'Cos they are not hanging about every corner you know!

Do you feel the same about boys who might show their pants a bit?

JackieandJudy · 13/06/2012 19:50

They're just little girls being innocent little girls. Why do you think they should wear something underneath their dresses?
