Dresses on Girls

I'm I unreasonable to think that younger girls who wear dresses should also wear "bloomers/shorts" or something under their dress so, their panties don't show?

Blush

My daughter is turning 7 next weekend, and she still makes sure she has something under her dress, esp, if its a short/shorter one...

Yes, it depends on what she is doing too... Going for a nice supper/concert, no.... something underneath isn't necessary, as she won't be laying on the floor, playing, climbing on the monkey bars, etc.etc.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but when I see a bunch of kids sitting on the ground playing, chances are the girls don't worry about their panties showing...

jmho...

This seems to be a recent thing. When my older dds were 7 no-one worried about knickers being seen but I notice a lot of my youngest dds friends wear shorts under their dresses. I certainly don't think anyone bothered when I was young.

Mrsjay · 13/06/2012 19:50

I cant look at this thread anymore panties and gusset makes me a bit queasy although bloomers made me Grin

ElizabethWindsorPonsonby · 13/06/2012 19:52

Dd (5) is a terrible knicker flasher, but I only try and get her to wear leggings under a dress if it's a bit chilly.

She only wants to show people what nice knickers she has, and I'm sure she'll grow out of it at least by her twenties, like I did Wink

Mrsjay · 13/06/2012 19:52

It must be a new thingkate mine wore trousers and skirts when they were little and would have pants on show if they were climbing or sitting cross legged It wasnt an issue and the only time girls wore shorts under skirts if they were doing gym and didnt want the faff of taking them off ,

storminabuttercup · 13/06/2012 19:52

Bloody hell, they are PANTS.

The whole point is to cover their bits up. Confused

seeker · 13/06/2012 19:53

Don't you all realise that there pedophiles with binoculars surrounding every school playground? Every tree, every high building- teeming with 'em.

CwtchesAndCuddles · 13/06/2012 19:54

I'm just pleased that dd (6) wears knickers - after a very embarassing conversation with her teacher a few months ago when I found out that she had forgotton to put her knickers on in the morning and it was noticed at lunchtime when she was doing cartwheels in the yard!!!!

Oh the shame - teachers were in hysterics in the staff room though............

Mrsjay · 13/06/2012 19:54

yip ive heard that too seeker they are around every corner 'sigh'

Flisspaps · 13/06/2012 19:55

But what happens if their bloomers show? Will they then need bigger bloomers to cover up the bloomers that are covering up their panties?

WorraLiberty · 13/06/2012 19:56

Actually re the 'panties' thing

I've just realised the OP is Canadian and I think it's the 'said thing' over there.

Still a really silly thread though imo

I wish people would just let kids be kids. As soon as they feel they want to cover up, they'll be the first to let you know about it.

scrappydappydoo · 13/06/2012 19:56

Whats the difference between seeing knickers or shorts? As long as everything is covered up it shouldn't matter. Especially at 7!!
Sorry op YABU

WorraLiberty · 13/06/2012 19:56

Don't be silly Flisspaps, that's what the Pantaloons are for Grin

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 13/06/2012 19:57

1st post?

DoesItComeInBlack · 13/06/2012 19:57

AIBU to just say oh FFS!

Mrsjay · 13/06/2012 19:58

pantaloons

gamerwidow · 13/06/2012 19:59

Little girls don't need to cover their knickers up, they have nothing to be modest about.
So what if their knickers show sometimes what do you think is going to happen?

Flisspaps · 13/06/2012 19:59

I think the pantaloons are already out...

ripsishere · 13/06/2012 20:00

And that is why my DD wears the three layers described. I know that there are kiddy fiddlers just waiting to see her panties.
The only time I've ever been a bit eww about underwear was when she was around 4. I was helping in her class. A lot of the girls (and boys to a certain extent) had baggy legged knickers on. Teeny tiny fanny's and winkles on show.

ripsishere · 13/06/2012 20:00

That is a joke just in case anyone thinks she really does wear all those layers.

usualsuspect · 13/06/2012 20:01

Pantaloons and bloomers are great words Grin

AKE2012 · 13/06/2012 20:01

Oh what next. My child wears nothing but dresses and she just wears knickers. I jus keep having to tell her to close her legs so people cant see her knickers if shes sitting on the ground.
Bloomers IMO are for children babies and toddlers and thats jus for cuteness not to hide their knickers.

pantaloons · 13/06/2012 20:02

Did somebody call?

Mrsjay · 13/06/2012 20:04

My pants are so big these days they could be mistaken for bloomers Grin

My youngest dd is also a prolific knicker flasher. She had her dress up round her middle on the school yard last week rubbing her tummy saying "and my Daddy's tummy is this big!"

The only thing I've changed is too buy my eldest (8) proper pants rather than the boxer style, as the boxers show a little too much when she sits cross legged iykwim. Not nice for the teacher or her friends!
