Dresses on Girls

I'm I unreasonable to think that younger girls who wear dresses should also wear "bloomers/shorts" or something under their dress so, their panties don't show?

Blush

My daughter is turning 7 next weekend, and she still makes sure she has something under her dress, esp, if its a short/shorter one...

Yes, it depends on what she is doing too... Going for a nice supper/concert, no.... something underneath isn't necessary, as she won't be laying on the floor, playing, climbing on the monkey bars, etc.etc.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but when I see a bunch of kids sitting on the ground playing, chances are the girls don't worry about their panties showing...

jmho...

Op is quiet!

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 13/06/2012 21:08

We used to hang upside down from the climbing frame so our dresses hung over out heads we thought it was funny that our knickers were on display :)

And we did pe in vest and knickers if we forgot pe kit.

DS2 went to school with no pants once, glad he's not the only one!

Pagwatch · 13/06/2012 21:11

Yes Tennis and as I said before...is it their first post perchance? Or was their opener just a good way of getting people to talk about girls pants etc.

girlpancake · 13/06/2012 21:21

My ds recently asked for a Boden "skort" for this very reason. Maybe it is a trend?

Yanbu. Dd ALWAYS wears shorts or leggings under her dresses and so do all the little girls in her nursery.

SecretNutellaFix · 13/06/2012 22:08

Why should little girls worry about people seeing their knickers in the course of normal activities? Provided they are clean, whole and fit properly, it's a whole lot better than the alternative of nothing underneath the dresses at all. Why make extra work for parents by adding a layer of clothing?

whathaveiforgottentoday · 13/06/2012 22:09

Gosh, I'm lucky if my DD is actually wearing knickers. We have to frisk her before she goes out to double check she's wearing some. I think if I suggested shorts or leggings she would think that I'm barmy.
Obviously a floosy in the making.

I think that the day this becomes an issue for a child is the day the adult needs to take a long look in the mirror at themselves and ask why it's an issue for themselves, why they need to turn something innocent into a taboo and the messages they are passing onto there children

motherinferior · 13/06/2012 22:18

Yep, I agree with Opps.

You do know that when they get to about 13 these girls will be rolling their skirts up to pant-level in any case, don't you Grin?

wimblehorse · 13/06/2012 22:19

What an odd thing to worry about OP!

Hulababy · 13/06/2012 22:20

Rabbitee - but why is it practical? What can a little girl NOT do in a skirt and pants that she can do in a skirt and shorts? In what way do the shorts help the girl practically?

MrsBovary · 13/06/2012 22:21

Bloomers for a seven year old Hmm

RhinestoneCowgirl · 13/06/2012 22:21

YABU for using the word 'panties'...

DollysDrawers · 13/06/2012 22:23

Oh please, little girls and not so little girls have always shown or nearly shown their knickers. Who cares.

Little children don't need to be wasting energy on being modest.

School teachers and parents need to stop preying about teen girls legs.
The more our HT bangs on about skirt length, the shorter they will get.

NotGeoffVader · 13/06/2012 22:31

I find the best way to avoid people ogling my undergarments when I wear a short dress is not to wear any. Grin

Hulababy · 13/06/2012 22:33

Can honestly say that I have never snagged my pants in such a way. But yes - I can see why for that reason it may be a practical solution. But for most children?
