AIBU to think that women should not have to be discreet when breastfeeding?

I'm not saying that anyone should purposely flop both boobs out into someones dinner. But it makes me really mad that some people think women should have to be discreet when feeding their baby, sit in a corner or breastfeeding 'booth'.

I also think a breast is just not comparable to a penis to a vagina and if people are offended because they see breasts as purely sexual then that is their own problem.

Noone would object to me sitting in public drinking my coffee or feeding my baby a bottle of cows milk yet people find breastmilk offensive.

I'm not bitty mad I lasted 2 weeks breastfeeding but it still makes my blood boil that it is seen as controversial by many.

AIBU?

Well, yes, so did I. So does everyone who breast feeds. And?

sc2987 · 16/06/2012 21:26

But you're assuming she did it to make a point. Rather than for convenience or just forgetting. I'm sure most nursing women have answered the door to the postman with one hanging out at some point!

You have no idea what was in her head when she did that, whereas changing nappies where you eat is clearly unhygienic (breastmilk is not a hazardous product, unlike faeces).

They just aren't comparable.

Oppsididitagain · 16/06/2012 21:44

I often eat my lunch at the same time as my children, often this means a waitress takes our order whilst breastfeeding baby just gets on with it I tend not to use a blanket or anything occasionally he's moved or opened mouth to burp and a nipple may very well have leaked during this time, I'm still confused as to why that's agressive

WhiteWidow · 16/06/2012 21:54

No I know what 'aggressive breastfeeding' is. But I wouldn't call it that. Its more like scummy mummy breastfeeding, ie Vicky Pollard character, literally wacking the boob out, shoving the baby towards herself with no care, talking loudly and swearing whilst she's doing it, huffing and puffing, revealing way much than she actually needs to, the tuts when people so much as glimpse her way

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2012 22:00

Ok so a characature, a stereotype? Have to admit to having never ever seen anything like it, though obv not saying it doesnt exist

Oppsididitagain · 16/06/2012 22:03

Oh I see, my ds as soon as he's anywhere near my boobs and he's hungrey divebombs so defo no shoving I also would swear in front of my kids they would tell me off lol

yellowraincoat · 16/06/2012 22:03

Oh so it's "chavs" breastfeeding you have a problem with.

I see.

Oppsididitagain · 16/06/2012 22:03

Opps would NOT

Scheherezade · 16/06/2012 22:11

oops haha, I remember the "oh boobs, DIVEBOMB" baby days! Usually accompanied with a "naaahhmm" noise, heh.

McKayz · 16/06/2012 22:11

I'm not a chav! So am I allowed to bf in public?

yellowraincoat · 16/06/2012 22:13

are you a C-cup or less, McKayz?

If you can answer yes to both questions, then sure, whack a tit out or whatever you want to dub it.

McKayz · 16/06/2012 22:16

Nope!! I haven't been under a C cup since I was 11!!

DC 3 due in 5 days so expecting to be about an E soon.

Oh well. I'll just have to take a tent with me if I want to BF.

yellowraincoat · 16/06/2012 22:17

Keep yer floppy old mams to yerself then, uuuuuugh.

McKayz · 16/06/2012 22:20

No I want to aggressively feed my baby!! Maybe I should carry a baseball bat. Would that count as aggressive breastfeeding?

Shagmundfreud · 16/06/2012 22:22

I really don't see how something fleshy and soft can actually be 'whacked out'.

The only vision of 'whacking' I can imagine which involves breasts is some 47 year old dominatrix with huge pendulous breasts slapping some witless punter round the face with them.

Is this a bit like what the mother you saw was doing whitewidow?

Have to say, I do find it hilarious how hard you are having to work to portray a fundamentally beneficial, loving and nurturing act as dysfunctional and aggressive.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2012 22:24

You could develop a range of delightful hootr hiders with "fuck you" on them, that would be needlessly aggressive breastfeeding AND you wkuldnt need to show any flesh!

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2012 22:25

IIF YOU CAN SEE THE HAIR ON ME NIPS YOU'RE TOO CLOSE FUCKWIT

Shagmundfreud · 16/06/2012 22:26

Whitewidow, I'm thinking of developing a bottle cover shaped like a daisy for women who don't want to offend people who don't like ff.

So you could use it and everyone would think you were gently tickling your baby's face with a flower.

Do you think this is something you might be interested in?

McKayz · 16/06/2012 22:27

Or covers with pictures of nice page 3 tits. Remember that pictures are ok!

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2012 22:28

Leavr my typos in, they add the the overall aggression

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2012 22:29

That's brilliant! Hooter hinders with p3 pics on - fantastic irony

yellowraincoat · 16/06/2012 22:29

You're clearly a hysterical harpy, StealthPolarBear you can't even type in a feminine way.

I'm going to buy a pitbull and aggressively breastfeed it.

YOW, me nips!

NowThenWreck · 16/06/2012 22:30

I'm not sure what a Chav is yellow, so no.
Mostly, the women I have noticed doing said aggressive bf-ing are probably middle class types. They are usually the same mothers who, for reasons known only to them, allow little Josh to run screaming around the restaurant, because, hey, if anyone minds him expressing himself that's their problem, right?
Look, I am playing devils advocate here, a bit, because these threads annoy me.
It bugs me when people say "why should I be discreet, it's their problem, when actually, having breastfed at a football ground, on a train etc, I have never noticed anyone remotely having a problem.
Why is it so terrible to breast feed discreetly? When I go to the gym, I get showered and changed reasonably discreetly. I just assume that no-one wants a graphic view of my bits. That's all.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2012 22:32

Women who scream and look unattractive when giving birth offend me. How hard can it be to slap on some lipstick and think about Tje people round you?

EclecticShock · 16/06/2012 22:34

Its frankly crazy that people have a problem wih worn bf in public... Especially other women wih children... Crazy I tell you... And as for aggressive bf... Live and let live...Don't get it.
