rainydays. You have ruined my life with this information.

Also, Chaos, YANBU.

I like the word 'pizzed', I'm going to start using it.

rainydaysarebad · 11/06/2012 09:02

Sorry! But it's good to know what you're eating Grin

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 11/06/2012 09:12

It's either:

Chips, battered sausage, breadcake, gravy, with salt and vinegar.

Or Fish, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce, with a bit of salt.

Viva, chip spice should be saved for takeaway chips, not chippy chips. And they are called scraps here, not scallops.

Whoever wanted sausage with no batter- why would you do that? Batter, like pastry, makes everything tast better! If you are ever in Hull, try a pattie- they are rather delish. Can't believe nowhere else has caught on to them.

Chip shop gravy isn't made in the same way as KFC gravy. Think DC and I will be going to the chippy for lunch today now

NorbertDentressangle · 11/06/2012 09:26

"Batter, like pastry, makes everything taste better!"...No, no, no!!

Batter just seems to give everything a coat of something tasteless thats saturated in oil (unless you are lucky enough to find the 0.5% of chip shops that do a crisp, dry batter )

I once made the mistake of ordering battered mushrooms from the menu of one chippy but they were gross and just soggy and dripping in oil. Bleurgh!

Blatherskite · 11/06/2012 09:46

WTF is a breadcake? Bread. Cake? Nothing cake-y about bread.

I think you're referring to a bap.

bitbewildered · 11/06/2012 11:28

I don't like batter unless it's really crisp and light. Also, batter is there to protect delicate fish or veg from the cooking process. Sausages don't need protecting!

DH had a starter with black pudding in it at a pub last week. They'd frigging battered that too! FFS!
