In? On. Fat fingers from too many chippy teas Smile

AKissIsNotAContract · 10/06/2012 21:07

I thought the North/South divide didn't exist until I read this thread. Gravy on chips, you weirdyweirdsters.

bitbewildered · 10/06/2012 21:07

I'm a Londoner living in the north east. I can't get pickled onions in the chippy and all the sausages have been battered. Sad

Hassled · 10/06/2012 21:07

You should be counting your blessings the chippy's even open on a Sunday. They don't fish on a Saturday round these parts - therefore no chippy on a Sunday. Ditto Monday.

You're moaning about no gravy - even if we had gravy we'd have nothing to put it on. You don't know you're born.

CrunchyFrog · 10/06/2012 21:08

I need chips. NEED.

UnChartered · 10/06/2012 21:09

curry sauce - yes

gravy - no

that is how it's written in my head the bible - i bet jesus wouldn't have had gravy on his fish

rhondajean · 10/06/2012 21:12

Chaos.

We have just had chips, battered sausage, gravy and curry sauce. Between me and the girls (DH is working).

Yum yum yum.

Thought I now feel bloated and as if I have my own gravitional pull from my gut.

FairToMiddlin · 10/06/2012 21:13

Mushy peas down south are too mushy.

Oop north, they have a bit more substance.

I have researched this very well.

FrankWippery · 10/06/2012 21:13

We have gravy in my local chip shop and that's in London. I must clearly live in the right place. And they are the Best. Chips. Ever. And they do the bits too.

rhondajean · 10/06/2012 21:14

Ooh bitbewildered - out chippy does smoked sausage too without batter.

Just showing off now!

NorbertDentressangle · 10/06/2012 21:15

YABU on 2 counts.

Firstly you should be grateful that your chippy is open on a Sunday at all -they all close in our town on Sundays which is a major PITA when you get back from a w/e away to an empty fridge.

Secondly, you want mushy peas not gravy

Tee2072 · 10/06/2012 21:18

Mushy peas are of the devil.

My fondest memory of my wedding was a few days before with my family here from America and my family having real fish and chips for the first time.

I mean, other than the whole wedding thing, of course.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 10/06/2012 21:18

Norby.

I had chips and mushy peas and HeathenGravy.

It wasn;t perfect, but I loiked it.

Envy at Rhondajean.

Why would you batter a sausage? Why?

NorbertDentressangle · 10/06/2012 21:22

On the subject of the north/south divide, we went oop north to a wedding many years ago. On the eve of the wedding we arrived at our hotel in a small town and thought we'd nip to the chippy across the road.

It was the biggest chippy you've ever seen, no tables inside just a takeway. Being a veggie I was quite excited at the prospect of it having something veggie other than chips as it really was a huge place.

We wandered in and took a look at the menu behind the counter to find it had :

-fish and chips
-fish, chips and gravy
-chips and gravy
-chips

...and that was it Hmm

Youvebeentangoed · 10/06/2012 21:23

I am a northern lass living in the midlands, and my god, don't I miss my chips and gravy :(

Youvebeentangoed · 10/06/2012 21:24

Does not at all, on any day of the week, morning, noon, afternoon, evening or night, half moon or full moon, EVER sells gravy

FairToMiddlin · 10/06/2012 21:24

Where were the pies & the puddings?

And the scallops?

And the jumbo sausages?

It was clearly not a proper chippy.

Brown sauce or ketchup?
My instinct tells me you are a ketchup girl...

The battered potato ones.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/06/2012 21:30

When I was 11 we went to Blackpool on holiday. Had lunch one day in a seafront cafe and I ordered chicken and chips. It came with gravy poured all over it. I cried. Wouldn't eat it.

flapperghasted · 10/06/2012 21:31

I am a fish, chips and gravy weeyurdo. And I've been gravy free for 2 days now. I signed the pledge. Now I'm tempted to eat my own words....with fish and gravy of course, Yum.....

VivaLeBeaver · 10/06/2012 21:34

You can't beat Hull chip spice on your chips.
