to think that people who choose to have more children whilst living in social housing shouldn't expect to be given a bigger place?

I am a member of another pregnancy forum and there is a woman there who has just had her 5th child (by choice). Neither her nor her partner work and she is complaining that the council will not giver them a bigger house (she is in a 3 bed). All the other members are sympathising with her but I don't understand why. Surely if you choose to have a child when you know your home is not big enough, you shouldn't expect the council to give you a bigger one, especially when it is sought after subsidised housing?

pinkelephant you ok?? You sound a bit put out..

MammaTJ · 09/06/2012 21:40

I pay all my rent, council tax and will get to water rates one day!!
I have addapted my housing to fit my family and have decided no more kids will fit, therefore, no more kids. But I do work and that may be the difference between myself, a lot of posters, and the op victims(victims as they are not here to defend themselves).

usualsuspect · 09/06/2012 21:42

CouthyMow · 09/06/2012 21:55

Erm, pink elephant, most people in my situation wouldn't consider work, I have 4 dc, two have multiple disabilities and are both on the Autistic Spectrum, AND I have uncontrolled epilepsy myself.

Think what you like about me, but someone who is fighting to get their Neuro to sign them as fit for 24 hrs a week rather than the 16 HE thinks is the most I can do (need to do 24 hrs due to Tax Credit changes next yr), is hardly any sort of a scrounger.

I WANT to go back to work because I feel shit being totally reliant on benefits, apart from the last 4 years, I have always worked since leaving school, but I was made redundant, and was thereafter a SAHM while my Ex-P worked. I didn't choose for him to walk out...

CouthyMow · 09/06/2012 21:57

Oh, shit, yes, rectangular! I knew what I meant, it had a big bit 'cut out' of that 5x9!

BarryShitpeas · 09/06/2012 22:01

Haven't read thread, but op have a Biscuit.

pigletmania · 09/06/2012 22:02

YANBU at all, but yes you will get a flaming that is why I post carefully

LineRunner · 09/06/2012 22:04

Why don't taxpayers froth at the mouth at all the men who walk out and only have to pay a pathetic fraction of their net incomes (after protecting their pensions, of course) to the poor sods like me raising their children single-handed?

KateSpade · 09/06/2012 22:06

She claims housing benefit for her new house, i'm not sure of the exact figure, but she said 'i hardly have to pay anything for it' She did tell me all of the money she gets, as she's having another baby, she was going through all of the things she needs to buy. I'd never ever want to see anyone homeless, a family in a bedsit, or struggling to feed themselves, ever, especially children. But its just a bit like arrghgh, sometimes.

Couthy Off topic, entirely, but i can i just ask about your epilepsy? and what you mean by uncontrolled, as i though all epilepsy was controlled. No-one chooses to have a fit? I dont mean that to sound as nasty as it does, btw.

Empusa · 09/06/2012 22:06

couthy You don't need to justify yourself

Glitterknickaz · 09/06/2012 22:07

Is it a bit like arrghgh, Kate?
Yes I feel like that knowing my kids may never leave home, but there you are.
There are a multitude of reasons for people's lives, not all of them choices.

UnChartered · 09/06/2012 22:09

wtf does someones medical condition have to do with this thread?

no-one chooses to have a fit? how fucking ignorant is that

KateSpade · 09/06/2012 22:09

Its come out wrong entirely, and im not benefit bashing at all! Sometimes i am frustrated not with the benefits system, but with the other system of working, and everything being so damned expensive.

AnnieArsehole · 09/06/2012 22:10

' I never want to see anyone suffer BUT'... Hmm

Heaven forbid that this country has a duty provide affordable housing for all huh? I say we line up the poor and shoot them, save us millions!

KalSkirata · 09/06/2012 22:12

all epilepsy isnt controlled. dd has a form which is uncontrollable and catastrophic.

cheesesarnie · 09/06/2012 22:14

katespade i think i know what you mean, just worded wrongly
