Embarrassing, exactly.

hermioneweasley · 03/06/2012 17:03

Sanctuary! I demand sanctuary! I feel sorry for the communities who have come together for street parties being rained out, but I find the whole thing unbelievable - why would anyone feel such a sense of gratitude to this woman and her loathsome fami,y that they would turn out in the rain to fawn over her? I genuinely do not understand it.

motherinferior · 03/06/2012 17:05

Our lunch out has made DP genuinely ill Shock. Proof that Royalty Is Bad For You.

missmiss · 03/06/2012 17:06

I was stuck on a train from Farnborough to Waterloo this morning; it was so packed with drooling loons on their way to wave their sad drooping flags at queenie that I had to stand in the rammed aisle for the entire journey. And some fuckwit pulled the emergency cord (mistook it for a bit of bunting) and the driver groped me when he went to investigate.

I emanated seething waves of Republican disdain all the way there.

We haven't switched on the TV today or yesterday. We still managed to enjoy ourselves.

DogEared · 03/06/2012 17:40

BBC News channel-
Woman (not a presenter, a guest): "This truly is the parade of the people. I mean, it's so democratic..."
I Hmmed until my face broke

O god am getting into a ruck on another thread, shelter me here Grin

FryingNemo · 03/06/2012 18:36

YANBU. Has the collective IQ of the nation plummeted?

cambridgeferret · 03/06/2012 18:41

I'm coming here to place my arse on the Republican bench. Budge up folks.

I watched two clips of the pageant and had to reach for the wastebin each time.

Can't pass comment about Wills Teeth, but round here it's all quiet apart from a sad looking piece of bunting in one hedge. And no street parties planned in the village either AFAIK.

Like the extra day off though.

noddyholder · 03/06/2012 18:56

The extra day off is great but you could ring in sick and have a frisson of naughtiness with your daytime telly and cappuccino than pay this lot have another bloody 'do'

Imnotbatman · 03/06/2012 19:16

Twas truly a bunch of old shite
And anyone who truly is "for " real monarchy would know it was effectively destroyed the minute William married Kate.
For the best

noddyholder · 03/06/2012 19:17

Imnotbatman · 03/06/2012 19:21

FootballFriendSays · 03/06/2012 19:23

I get a day off too. Watch me curtsey.

ohmeohmy · 03/06/2012 20:11

Just noticed this www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1487092-What-happens-if-the-queen-dies-tonight-morbid anyone care to comment?

yellowraincoat · 03/06/2012 20:16

I went down because I like boats. The boats were shit and I couldn't see anything anyway because all of these twats from the British Legion were standing on their chairs so the plebs behind couldn't see. Despite being told repeatedly to sit down, they pretty much refused.

So basically it was a celebration for those who had been invited.

Bit like the monarchy itself.

oldraver · 03/06/2012 20:20

I begrudgingly let DS watch the boats which were frankly underwhelming. A friend of B/F was on one of the barges in the Flotilla as he has recently got in started shagging someone with connections... says it all IMO.

GentleOtter · 03/06/2012 20:26

We have an invite to a Very Grand Party tomorrow by the palace dweller along the road.
Unfortunately, we will be clipping sheep's bottoms and won't smell very nice so best give it a miss.

QueenEdith · 04/06/2012 03:26

You will see in this "portmanteau" thread that there are already a number of threads knocking the Jubillee.

There is also, in answe to Empusa's request, already a Royal Family forumon MN - part of the reasoning for which was so that those who did not want to see Royal Wedding, Jubillee stuff etc could hide it easily.

Unfortunately, next to no-one uses it, and only 4 of the 50 or so Jubillee threads were opened in there. If you want MNetters to use more than AIBU and chat, I think you'll need to start supporting the thread police.

QueenEdith · 04/06/2012 03:32

"So basically it was a celebration for those who had been invited"

First come first served for tickets for admission to Battersea Park. Lots of the riverbank unticketed (unless private land); first arrived had best view.

Unfortunately, you cannot force people to behave (in terms of standing in stuff, having big umbrellas, having huge "joke" hats, putting children on shoulders etc. That is down to general selfishness: not the nature of the event in front of whichever people have opted to display inconsiderate behaviour.
