Surprisingly little round here as well. It's as suburban as it gets, I was fearing a rash of bunting. And the only party seems to have been ours (obviously not jubilean).

Decided to watch E3 with DH, figured we could totally avoid all the jubilee crap that way. Then of course some fucker finished his presentation with "God save the Queen", he was American!

Also, as a favour to one of our friends we offered to give them a lift home from another friends house sometime this week. Of course they chose today at 4:30pm, and the village they were in had jubilee celebrations starting at 5pm. Hmm

We barely made it through the village!

I am happy to report though that there is no bunting anywhere near our house :D The whole town is pretty empty of it! I do like it here!

Bloody loving this thread! Can't be doing with it all. Fecking monarchy opium of the masses and all because of who's fanny they came out of and who the inbred sperm donor wasAngry

I'm joining too. I can't stand it. I was at a BBQ yesterday ( a birthday BBQ) and every single person agreed that this is the biggest load of bollocks.

I can't believe how Royalist MN is. I wouldn't grovel and bow to anyone. How embarrassing.

Plus if I put up Union Jack bunting my house would be egged by outraged Celtic fans.

I am also incandescent at all the accusations that those of us not feeling overwhelmed with servile gratitude for a day off and a mass-produced flag are somehow incapable of having a good time.

Also claiming sanctuary!

I've managed to not see any of the jubilee coverage on the TV this weekend, not a scrap

I have painted the French flag on my thumbnails to register my disapproval of the monarchy. I was told yesterday by dd's friends' dad that I was being deliberately provocative and would upset lots of people....never mind eh? Grin

"So basically it was a celebration for those who had been invited"

First come first served for tickets for admission to Battersea Park. Lots of the riverbank unticketed (unless private land); first arrived had best view.

Unfortunately, you cannot force people to behave (in terms of standing in stuff, having big umbrellas, having huge "joke" hats, putting children on shoulders etc. That is down to general selfishness: not the nature of the event in front of whichever people have opted to display inconsiderate behaviour.

You will see in this "portmanteau" thread that there are already a number of threads knocking the Jubillee.

There is also, in answe to Empusa's request, already a Royal Family forumon MN - part of the reasoning for which was so that those who did not want to see Royal Wedding, Jubillee stuff etc could hide it easily.

Unfortunately, next to no-one uses it, and only 4 of the 50 or so Jubillee threads were opened in there. If you want MNetters to use more than AIBU and chat, I think you'll need to start supporting the thread police.

We have an invite to a Very Grand Party tomorrow by the palace dweller along the road.
Unfortunately, we will be clipping sheep's bottoms and won't smell very nice so best give it a miss.

I begrudgingly let DS watch the boats which were frankly underwhelming. A friend of B/F was on one of the barges in the Flotilla as he has recently got in started shagging someone with connections... says it all IMO.

Report
yellowraincoat · 03/06/2012 20:16

I went down because I like boats. The boats were shit and I couldn't see anything anyway because all of these twats from the British Legion were standing on their chairs so the plebs behind couldn't see. Despite being told repeatedly to sit down, they pretty much refused.

So basically it was a celebration for those who had been invited.

Bit like the monarchy itself.

Twas truly a bunch of old shite
And anyone who truly is "for " real monarchy would know it was effectively destroyed the minute William married Kate.
For the best
