I'll stop buying them. They're 15 for heaven's sake and I have 62 odd socks, all girls, some only a couple of weeks old. Grrrrrrr!

I secretly LOVE matching socks, but only when there's a huge pile. I get enjoyment out of finding pairs... I accept I am rather tragic.

yellowraincoat · 03/06/2012 13:37

Shrug. It's socks. I'm 29 and I rarely wear matching ones.

OneHandWavingFree · 03/06/2012 13:39

Neither do I, yellowraincoat. My socks are pretty much never on display other than when I'm walking around my own home, so as far as I'm concerned, a matching pair = two clean ones.

DarrowbyEightFive · 03/06/2012 13:44

Perhaps they're doing it on purpose as a style statement. DD1 got a reputation at school in year 6 for wearing odd socks, it was 'her thing'. But I know where you're coming from - I did a sock audit yesterday and also came up with around 50 odd socks with no partner anywhere in the house. Where can they be lurking? There is clearly a sock Bermuda triangle where all the odd socks in the world have been transported to.

Ultimately I agree with yellowraincoat - they're socks, as long as they're wearing two of them, matching is less important.

And on a side note, many years ago DH and I agreed that we would only buy and wear black socks. We now have a shared drawer of black socks which are more or less the same, but can easily be worn together, even if they're not technically a pair. It makes life so much easier.

anniewoo · 03/06/2012 13:58

I have a big bag into which i throw tje odd socks. Every few months i pair them up- it takes ages. I couldn't wear odd socks but dc have no problem (obviously)

CailinDana · 03/06/2012 14:00

My DH won £20 as a spot prize at a quiz once because he was the only person in the room wearing odd socks. In the 10 years I've known him, the only time he's worn matching socks is Christmas Day, Boxing day, and December 27th as he usually ends up with three pairs of socks as presents.

Not sure how relevant that is.

MyRoyalLentillyness · 03/06/2012 14:00

Some years ago I stopped matching socks or turning them the right side out after washing. Nobody seems to have noticed yet. I suggest you do the same - whilst you allow the socks to ruin your life there's only one winner, and it's not you! Grin

PreviouslyonLost · 03/06/2012 14:30

Happy to sock match, all day every day if necessary, tra la la la... inside out socks on the other hand drive me potty. Bermuda Triangle for lost single socks is, you will find should it ever break down and have to be taken apart , in the gubbins of your washing machine.

Svrider · 03/06/2012 14:32

I have a new job involving meeting professional people and making a good impression
I noticed on Wednesday when I got home my pair of black sox were actually dark navy(left foot) and black (right foot)
I then somehow managed to wear the opposing mismatched pair on Friday

I'm 39

Hope that helps

LucieMay · 03/06/2012 14:33

I'm a bit ocd about things like matching socks and could never let myself or 6 y o ds step out of the house in odd socks. I expect a complete odd socked rebellion in ten years time!

Helenh90 · 03/06/2012 14:39

I'm also a tad OCD with these things too lol, socks go in the washing machine as a pair and are hung up as a pair to save on time sorting them out later, tho our washing machine has been known to 'eat' socks before now...

mumeeee · 03/06/2012 14:39

It seems to be the fashion now. I know my DDs always wear odd socks and they are all in their 20s.

amillionyears · 03/06/2012 14:40

My DD loves wearing odd socks.Seems to get a kick out of it!
I have a sock hunt about every three months, and get everyone to go through their sock drawer and bring out every sock that does not belong to them. That helps to find about half of the missing pairs.

Dawndonna · 03/06/2012 14:43

I think I'm going to have to give up, reading this lot. I don't think I'm OCD about this, just find it frustrating. Maybe time to let them get on with it and sort their own socks out to their satisfaction, and just do mine, which will always match!

They have been wearing odd socks since they were teenagers. DD1 started it here.

Mrsjay · 03/06/2012 14:45

DDs are 14 and 19 think Odd socks ARE pairs tbh i stopped fretting about it years ago it drove me over the edge they are big enough to do what they like , I do make sure i have black for dd2 for school though ,

MardyBratannia · 03/06/2012 14:47

I hate bloody sock matching. Family of four x7 plus some gym socks. That's 30 odd pairs a week. Less in summer when some of us go sock less.

takingiteasy · 03/06/2012 14:47

Black socks, for everyone. DS is only 6 but has feet like boats so our socks are pretty interchangable. DH wears the thick black sports socks they have various brand names on the top of them, they never match but at least they are black.

takingiteasy · 03/06/2012 14:49

I despair when someone buys DS character socks, they always end up on their own.

SarryB · 03/06/2012 14:51

I agree with takingiteasy - same colour socks. All blue for one, all red for another etc.

Mrsjay · 03/06/2012 14:52

I only buy cheap socks now and if they are in the odd pile to long they are binned that feels great Grin

Mrsjay · 03/06/2012 14:52

too*

Nagoo · 03/06/2012 15:01

Yup, they are old enough to match their socks.

And you can stop buying them. They have 50 socks. That's 25 pairs, how many do they need? I have 8 pairs of socks, that's more than enough.

Nagoo · 03/06/2012 15:02

sorry, 62 socks. That's even worse. Why would you even think about buying more socks?

NettoSuperstar · 03/06/2012 15:09

This drives me mad too. I can't wear odd, sock, I just can't, but since DD and I have the same size feet she takes mine, and then they all end up odd.
I need to start hiding some just for me.
