To think Stokke pushchairs look ridiculous?

Honestly I turn around whenever I see one. The futuristic look is quite ridiculous and they look like a heap of cheap plastic.
Can't imagine why anyone would spend £800 to buy one!

I have one and yes I agree with people who say they look like a golf caddy!

But actually theyre no heavier than most strollers, the handle and height of the seat can be lowered to a point where my 5ft3 friend can push it, they come with a 2 child guarentee, the shopping bag extends to hold up to 7 litres of shopping, you can use it as a highchair and push it with one finger.

My daughter is 17mo and hasnt had another buggy. She loves it, we love it and if nothing else, you have to admit its eyecatching!

Oh, and we paid £600 for the full set including car seat. No more than a Bugaboo.

YoulllaughAboutItOneDay · 02/06/2012 22:24

BagofHolly - I can give you post of those arguments, but never need a highchair. Doe you mean out and about? Presumably at home you don't pull it up to the table? Even out and about, my DD's would have made a hell of a mess eating in a pram. BLW has its flaws Grin

Bagofholly · 02/06/2012 22:24

The shipping bag is cavernous, but there's also a little pocket on the back. And the separate change bag clips on neatly out of the way. And the accessories! OMG! They are SEX!

Tripped · 02/06/2012 22:24

I have one. It's bad in some ways - rubbish on public transport, for example.

But great in others - it's really good to have DS at eye-level height, both when facing me and when facing outwards. And it's high-chair height, too, so good when going for coffee and there's no high-chair.

For us, it was the height that convinced us - DH has a bad back and is very tall and can't bend, and I just love having DS at the same level as me when when we're chatting as we walk.

But IME it's only good for walking around, if you're by yourself. OK for getting on and off trains and buses if you can guarantee someone to help you, though. And it's very light.

Can appreciate how it might look a bit weird to some, though.

Yogurtmonster · 02/06/2012 22:25

YABU

Great for communication with baby as they are so close to you at that height.
Great for baby to be up high where they get a fab view of everything.
Your shopping goes in the shopping bag provided btw.
It's the very fact that they look different that appeals to some people, myself included.
Can double up as a high chair as table height if out and about somewhere busy.
I've never had anything but compliments about it when out and about.
The sleeping bag you can get for it is the warmest most comfy thing I have ever seen.
My ds loves it.

takingiteasy · 02/06/2012 22:26

Oh if I had a lovely big old Georgian pile house with a massive porch and hall and no need to ever drive anywhere I would so have a proper coach built pram.

But I don't and I do so I can't.

CharltonHairstyle · 02/06/2012 22:26

They are obscene.

It's like a weird display stand for your child

Hulababy · 02/06/2012 22:27

I like them!

It seems to make far more sense to me to have the baby/child higher up from the floor.

But then I don;t understand why people would spend so much on ones like the Bugaboo - they are such a faff.

Bagofholly · 02/06/2012 22:27

Ah, BLW = tarpaulin the walls! Grin

I use mine as a highchair regularly - everything is washable but you can also tuck muslins as required. When you're out though, you never have to use those scuzzy cafe ones, or park your pram - straight up to the table!

MsKittyFane · 02/06/2012 22:28

Sorry but eye-catching in a bad way IMHO.
It's all down to different tastes though! dH wouldn't let me get one of the first bugaboos when DD was born because he said they looked ridiculous!

ginmakesitallok · 02/06/2012 22:28

I saw one today - and it almost made me want another baby just so I could get one! The baby who was in it was loving her view of the world - it was fabulous.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 02/06/2012 22:29

I've had one and loved it. FWIW, I'm 5'1" and had no problem with how high it is.

The shopping goes inside a bag on the front of the pushchair. The bag expands so holds loads and can be zipped closed. The changing bag clips onto the frame beneath the handle so your purse etc wouldn't be easily accessible if you kept it in there.

Yes they look strange but I found it lovely to have DS up so high, he was much closer to me than in other pushchairs. It was lovely to push too.

The Stokke footmuff is the cosiest, snuggest, warmest foot muff I have ever seen.

Also, Stokke customer service is second to none, a lot more than can be said about other brands. We use their highchairs too and they are also brilliant.

I'm a bit of a Stokke fan, can you tell Grin

nbee84 · 02/06/2012 22:30

My friend who lives in London had one and she said that when her dd was little (and she was all pfb about herSmile) she liked the fact that baby was higher up and not at car exhaust level when she was walking down the high street with her.

Also when her dd was older and forward facing her dd actually seemed to prefer to be higher up as she got to view more than just peoples legs and bums.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 02/06/2012 22:30

Ah, x-posts with many of you there!

AKMD · 02/06/2012 22:30

I like them but not the furry accessory kit. That looks like baby bondage.

PigeonPie · 02/06/2012 22:30

YANU. I agree with Bagofholly. I was recommended it by my physio when I was pg 7 years ago. It was the only pram / pushchair I had and I used it every day. It was stable and sturdy and like a walking frame for me (I have impaired mobility). They are superbly designed and beautifully made. It was so easily manoeuvrable and I was sad when DS2 grew out of it. It was worth EVERY penny spent on it.

PreviouslyonLost · 02/06/2012 22:31

Aw milkymocha my dread is something innate...I have no control over it. Sorry if it offended you.

Maybe more to do with hospital trolley wheels than a certain type of pram, it just has creepy wheels to me. Stokke is theoretically a good idea (baby closer to you, out of traffic fumes, etc but it just looks wank (not creepy tho').

YoulllaughAboutItOneDay · 02/06/2012 22:31

nbee84 - they are apparently a bugger on London buses though. My friend who has one hardly uses it for that reason.

likelucklove · 02/06/2012 22:31

YY, not to my liking at all.

Saw one in Aldi last weekend, looked a PITA to put down so it would go in the boot of their sports car Hmm

I felt very smug with my Graco that folds up/down in 2 seconds and looks like a standard travel system

Shesparkles · 02/06/2012 22:32

We kept the silver cross in the garage, best pram ever for a baby-they can lie completely flat and stretch out, they're high up, baby faces you for talking, the apron and hood are watproof so you dont need raincovers that are like plasic bags, I used mine with both dcs till they were about 18 months old, and you can carry a baby, a load of shopping, AND a tired 5 year old!
They're not too handy to put in a car, I'll give you that, but for going on long walks they're the best thing ever. It's now in the loft in case I ever have grandchildren!

PrematurelyAirconditioned · 02/06/2012 22:32

Thom Yorke had a Stokke for his second baby. But I'm guessing he doesn't need to take it on the bus much.

milkymocha · 02/06/2012 22:33

takingiteasy Agreeing with the bugaboo love. Iam an ex-gecko, current donkey owner. Not keen on the bee though, looks like a wheelchair IMO.

Like the stokke 'winter packs' i see in M&Ps, stupidly expensive though Envy

nancerama · 02/06/2012 22:35

A woman near me has the winter fur kit for hers. She looks like the queen of Narnia.

milkymocha · 02/06/2012 22:35

Previouslyonlost Course you didnt offend me Grin It would be a very boring world if we all had the same likes and dislikes.
I can see what you mean about the wheels though Wink

takingiteasy · 02/06/2012 22:36

My Frog is out for baby number 2 but after eyeing up the Donkey I'm seriously considering number 3 very soon!
