To think Stokke pushchairs look ridiculous?

Honestly I turn around whenever I see one. The futuristic look is quite ridiculous and they look like a heap of cheap plastic.
Can't imagine why anyone would spend £800 to buy one!

We got the Stokke because it works for us, the height of the handle and the lack of bar in the middle make it perfect for us as we're a tall couple. As a former JL Nursery Adviser I know a fair bit about prams. I wouldn't have bought the Xplory if I didn't like the way it looks. Similarly, I wouldn't spend that amount of money on something just because I liked the look of it and it was completely impractical. Which was exactly some of my customers at JL used to do (against my advice I hasten to add). They were usually the ones who came back after 6 months for something else. I like everything about it including the way it looks.

I love it. I have no problem saying I looked at it as it was unusual & fancy pants!
I don't care if anyone else likes it. I do,ds is happy in it & it is great for reasons I said earlier in thread.
The whole argument of it not being worth the money is a bit pointless IMO. We did pay it,good resell too. You can say that anything is only worth what someone will pay,houses/handbags/skincare/ocado vs aldi. I find there is often a competitiveness over thrift on mn,particularly on the wedding threads. You know the ones, the "I did my wedding for 50p a head & it was the best wedding anyone has ever been to" :o

I do agree that we all have a right to thinking what we like about it! But to spend as much money on a pram as you could on a second hand car when there are perfectly good and functional ones half the price smacks of snobbery to me.

Why is it snobbery to spend money that I have, and want to spend, on an item I want? As bagofholly said further up, you could say that about anything. Should we all be dressing in Primark special, and carrying carrier bags because they're perfectly good and functional?

Sorry, I'll stick to a handbag and clothes from my choice of store, just like I'll stick to my xplory. It is functional, it looks lovely in my opinion, and it is a dream to push. I've not had an issue on any terrain, and we've had it up in the wilds, in the city, on a beach ... it has fitted every task we have put it to.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but it's pretty galling to be told by anti-xplory types that I'm a snob because I like my pram, and I spent more money on it than they would want to. My pram, my choice. I might think your pram was shit, but I would have the common courtesy not to tell you that.

I looked at cheaper options, I didn't like them for one reason or another as much as I like the Stokke. I bought the one I liked. I like how it looks. I like how high the handle is and how high my daughter sits. I don't love that it's not really that foldable, but that minus is not an issue for me - it fits in my boot and under my stairs.
BTW mine cost approx £350 (paid in euro) for a complete kit. Where can I buy a car for that? Ideally one that will pass an MOT and is not made up of more than one car....

I've just worked out the cost per day of mine. It was in daily use for four and a half years (and transported two children), so at £600, which is about what it cost seven years ago (from memory) then it works out at less than 3 pence per day - not a bad return for the money I think.

Bunty I never once said your pram was shit, just that it looks weird :-)

WinkyWinkola · 08/06/2012 09:55

Weird can be great sometimes. Not run of the mill.
