Right, whole jar it is. I suppose given the thread title I should ask if they have a jubilee version.

Figgygal · 31/05/2012 16:27

See thread has been distracted by the awesome power of tablet........god I want some but living south of the border (boo hiss) and its difficult enough getting irn bru.

As for the jubilee I am a massive fan of the queen am currently reading Andrew marrs the diamond queen, have bought 5 month old DS a union jack onesie for the weekend and am going to try sneak some bunting past my unimpressed dh.

storytopper · 31/05/2012 16:31

I know of two street parties - Glasgow and Livingston. I'm not going to one. Haven't seen anyone buying Jubilee stuff for personal use but we did have a lunch in our workplace (college) and students made the bunting, etc. More interest in the Olympics as the torch is passing by but not in buying the merchandise.

sweetkitty · 31/05/2012 16:35

Bought DD3 a wee tshirt for her nursery party. Made lovely cupcakes for the toddlers party.

Oh am also going to a 1950s street party thing on Sunday.

Haven't bought any of the other tat as I think it's a waste of money more than anything.

valueadd · 31/05/2012 16:39

IT'S UNION FLAG NOT UNION JACK. Unless you are all at sea, which this thread implies that some of you are, quite frankly.

squoosh · 31/05/2012 16:44

According to the Flag Institute, the vexillological organisation for the United Kingdom, "the national flag of the United Kingdom, the Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories is the Union Flag, which may also be called the Union Jack."[4] It also notes that "From early in its life the Admiralty itself frequently referred to the flag as the Union Jack, whatever its use, and in 1902 an Admiralty Circular announced that Their Lordships had decided that either name could be used officially. In 1908, a government minister stated, in response to a Parliamentary question, that "the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag"

People on here are desperate to show how knowledgable they are by saying 'oh you can't call it the Union Jack, didn't you know that?'

valueadd · 31/05/2012 16:46

what's citation [4]

valueadd · 31/05/2012 16:57

There you go. Why is it taught that it's not called the Union Jack on land but it's a navy term then?

valueadd · 31/05/2012 16:57

If this was apparently cleared up by one chap in 1908.

MrsHuxtable · 31/05/2012 17:08

Nope and nope!

squoosh · 31/05/2012 17:09

People do call it the Union Jack though and it does sound aresy to be so SHOUTY at people who do.

squoosh · 31/05/2012 17:09

arsey

RemembersButtonMoon · 31/05/2012 17:10

My Dad lives in Fife (I live in London).... when we spoke this morning he was washing his windows in preparation for his Union Jack flag!

bentneckwine1 · 31/05/2012 17:25

I am in NE Scotland and just going to brave the rain to hang some bunting outsde the house!!

We are having a Jubilee BigLunch which is building on the success of last year's royal wedding party.

I am currently tripping up over boxes of red, whte and blue tat that we will be using on Sunday.

valueadd · 31/05/2012 17:40

Just trying to move away from the anti English sentiment. Being a devil really, don't care too much.

montysma1 · 31/05/2012 17:50

I would have thought the flute and mouth brigade would have been buying it up to stockpile for the marching season.

FayeGovan · 31/05/2012 17:53

god almighty some folk on here need to get a life andquick

near the start of the thread someone said to me they don't live in Scotland due to things like my op (well if you're that dumb you're no loss to us)

then someone else mentions prescriptions/uni fees and anti English.....

well no, all I was asking was about the crap in the shops selling - or not selling as it turns out

seems most of us aren't too bothered, much as I guessed

I'm in glasgow too and agree all the union jacks just mean rangers to us...all the posts ending in hun always makes me laugh here Grin

FayeGovan · 31/05/2012 17:55

there was a walk in Glasgow last Saturday, cant believe that crap is actually still alive and kicking...

OP posts:
montysma1 · 31/05/2012 17:58

If you drive through Bridgeton in July you will see what happened to all the cut price bunting!

I knew I heard flutes and drums last Saturday.

I hate when July hits and I have to get up at the crack of dawn scurrying around closing windows trying to block out the sounds of marching bands.

redlac · 31/05/2012 18:05

I was in George Square when that walk kicked off faye. Had to laugh cos my DD (6) said that the flutes made her feel funny - must have been the smidgen of catholic blood in her!

Hun makes me laugh too. But thans to this thread I'm off to boil down some ginger to make Irn Bru icing :)

Annunziata · 31/05/2012 18:10

There are about 20 walks this weekend across Glasgow apparently. Pain in the backside!

corlan · 31/05/2012 18:14

This thread reminds me of a quote from 'Trainspotting'

'Some people hate the English, but I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are colonized by wankers. We can't even pick a decent culture to be colonized by. We are ruled by effete arseholes. It's a shite state of affairs and all the fresh air in the world will not make any fucking difference.'
