To think my ex-SIL should STFU and that my parenting should not be criticised because

I don't take my 10-year old DD to get her legs waxed?

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 30/05/2012 07:55

Yes, she's a fucking idiot for saying that.

10 years old, ffs.

fuckarama · 30/05/2012 07:57

Apparently I should be taking them and she's shocked I don't.

So I'm a bad parent for not taking a 10 year old to get their legs waxed.

OP posts:
fuckarama · 30/05/2012 07:58

I have fumed and raged about this all night.

I am so angry it's not true.

OP posts:
fuckarama · 30/05/2012 07:59

Who would like seats for when I tackle the ex about this and tell him that she needs to butt the fuck out and keep her fucking mouth fucking shut?

I'm selling tickets.

To pay for the leg wax. Obviously.

Your SIl is being stupid, but if your DD is quite hairy and wants to do something about it, then you should be allowing her to do so.

I would wonder why you are so worried over such a stupid comment?

Personally i would laugh at her and forget about it.

lilbreeze · 30/05/2012 08:00

She is being unreasonabe and unusual. However yabu to be angry.

Herrena · 30/05/2012 08:01

That is really ridiculous. YANBU!!

Your ex-SIL sounds delightful btw :)

fuckarama · 30/05/2012 08:01

She's 10.

DD1 is 13 and veets if she feels the need - I don't get involved in that but DD2 is 10.

Are you seriously suggesting a 10 year old should be getting their legs waxed?

It's the latest in a long line of criticisms of my parenting. But quite possibly the most barking criticism.

OP posts:
ThisIsANickname · 30/05/2012 08:02

Waxing, no.

However, when I was 10 years old I had a really good friend in school who was mocked relentlessly for her hairy legs (she had thick, black hair and it covered her legs). She would be in tears constantly because of all the bullying that she had to endure. When she asked her mom if she could shave her legs, her mother said no because she wasn't "old enough."

So, although in theory you are NBU, if it is a case of the child being better off without leg hair then I think that perhaps there is something you could do (not waxing, but maybe teaching her to shave).

Fourlegged · 30/05/2012 08:02

Maybe your DD us hairy? I was! And my mum wouldn't let me wax until I was 13 so I wasn't on netball team because I was too embarrassed and dud hockey instead because I could wear long legs....

But she shouldn't comment

YANBU

fuckarama · 30/05/2012 08:03

Who the fuck does she think she is to be commenting on a 10 year old's hairy or not hairy legs?

What the fuck sort of shallow stupid person actually comments on that?

OP posts:
fuckarama · 30/05/2012 08:03

Her legs aren't particularly hairy btw she's blonde, she does have some fine blonde hairs but they aren't really that obvious.

OP posts:
OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 30/05/2012 08:04

I had my legs waxed at 11, it's no big deal.

But that was a choice my Mum made and it would be nothing to do with anyone else, so yes, your mil should STFU.

ThisIsANickname · 30/05/2012 08:05

fuckarama, children might. It happened to my friend and she was miserable for it.

If she is hairy (which I am getting the impression that she is) maybe your ex-SIL is just trying to be helpful?

fuckarama · 30/05/2012 08:05

(I have ishoos with my ex-SIL in general so there is a history)

OP posts:
ThisIsANickname · 30/05/2012 08:05

ah, nevermind. cross-posted.

fuckarama · 30/05/2012 08:06

SHE ISN'T HAIRY.

SHE HAS FINE BLONDE HAIRS ON HER LEGS THAT YOU CAN HARDLY SEE.

YOU'D NEED A FUCKING MAGNIFYING GLASS TO SEE THEM.

OP posts:
ThisIsANickname · 30/05/2012 08:07

Yes. I got that. We cross-posted.

fuckarama · 30/05/2012 08:07

SIBVU

I've never had my legs waxed and i'm waaaay older than 10. What a fuckwit! (your ex-SIL obviously -.. Can't help wonder why she's an ex....Grin

MorrisZapp · 30/05/2012 08:07

Why are you entertaining this utter pish?

So she made a laughable comment, so what.

Who did she say it to?

ThisIsANickname · 30/05/2012 08:08
Grin
Birdsgottafly · 30/05/2012 08:09

Waxing, no, but hair removal is fine, if the child is bothered by them.

Hair removal isn't a sexual activity, there doesn't have to be an age limit imposed.

"Who the fuck does she think she is"

She's your DD's aunty, isn't she?

If she has just said this out of the blue, then i would just think, 'silly cow' and ignore. If your DD has mentioned it, then she is right to bring it up.

Lovecat · 30/05/2012 08:09

Really, Birds?

How do you define 'quite hairy'?

OP shouldn't be 'allowing' anything, as a 10 yr old child her DD shouldn't even be aware of such nonsense. I doubt very much if OP's DD is bothered about her legs at that age. Why push a child into an adult grooming regime?

And there's nothing wrong with hairy legs anyway :o I'd rather be hairy than have ingrown hairs, stubble, spots, eczema and dry skin (which is what happened in the past on the rare occasions I removed it)

OP, YANBU to think that your ex-SIL should STFU (nor indeed to tell her). Thankfully she's your ex-SIL so hopefully you don't have to have a huge amount to do with her anymore?

squeakytoy · 30/05/2012 08:10

are you always quite so shouty and sweary.. perhaps your daughter has mentioned to her that she wants her legs waxed because she is concious about them...
