To think DH has more time to get shopping

My husband work 2pm till 10pm 8 hour shifts, once every 3 weeks. I work 7am till 2:30pm. We have 2 children one that is in full time school and 1 in afternoon nursery that starts at 12:30. I have no time to go home before the school run as nursery finishes at 3pm and i barly make it there on time

As he has the car I think he should do any shopping or get the electric, so why does he expect me to do it. This would involve me walking 2 tired children home which is 20 minutes to get the key and walk 20 minutes to the shop.

He works one day every three weeks? What? Confused

VolvoMo · 29/05/2012 22:04

What is get the electric? If you have a car one of you can do the shopping with it when you have a chance. I don't see any problem.

SharingIsNotCaring · 29/05/2012 22:04

Sorry that was my mistake in deleting. he works shift so afternoons every 3 weeks

FeakAndWeeble · 29/05/2012 22:06

Why don't you just tell him you think it would be easier if he did shopping etc while you get the kids?

SharingIsNotCaring · 29/05/2012 22:07

we have a prepaid electric meter that has a key charge. It is left in the meter as you need it to put emergency electric credit

Do it online and have it delivered?

SharingIsNotCaring · 29/05/2012 22:08

VolvoMo · 29/05/2012 22:08

Oh, electric meter. I didn't know those were still around. Well your DH should be sorting it all out IMO.

SharingIsNotCaring · 29/05/2012 22:09

Can you just get the basic delivered, like bread and milk or have you got to spend a minimum amount

OP posts:
WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:11

You have to spend 25 quid. Plus 2.50 - 5.00 delivery charge. And the stuff I get is always on its sell by date.

lagoonhaze · 29/05/2012 22:11

Min spend usually about £25. Do you not have a local shop for the basics?

VolvoMo · 29/05/2012 22:12

You can just get the basics delivered for free (if you spend the minimum amount). The trouble is usually the delivery slot, you need to be home to receive it.

FeakAndWeeble · 29/05/2012 22:12

Oh, electric meter. I didn't know those were still around

Hmm Snooty much?

Sharing you can just get the basics but most places will charge for delivery however much you spend.

SharingIsNotCaring · 29/05/2012 22:13

yes i have but it mean coming home 1st to get the money

OP posts:
lagoonhaze · 29/05/2012 22:14

Why can't you take the money with you?

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:14

Coming home first to get the money? Eh?

FeakAndWeeble · 29/05/2012 22:15

Why not just take the money with you if you know you need to pop to the local shop Confused?

FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:16

if you have an iceland near you go in sign up to their bonus card scheme and they will deliver whatever you put in your trolley (£25 or over) for free. If you don't havea car, which i presume you don't

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:16

I don't mean to sound arsey, but maybe you're making it a bigger deal than what it actually is? Can you not both find a time to go together? Or alternate? What about weekends?

SharingIsNotCaring · 29/05/2012 22:16

I haven't got anywhere safe to leave my bag at work, so don't take money or bank cards ect to work

OP posts:
FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:16

she goes home to fetch the money because I presume she has nowhere to lock it whilst she is at work!

have any of you lived in the real world?

electric meters, goodness me you lot!

Cabrinha · 29/05/2012 22:18

So this is only an issue 1 week in 3? Online shop, plan so you do minimal shopping for that 5 day stretch? Speak to your electric company about coming off key if at all possible? I don't know how keys work - can you have a second spare to top up with? Plan so you don't need to top up in those 5 days. Change or extend nursery age child's hours - 12:30/13:00 - 15:30?

But based on those shifts, I'd say in that week he should shop and get electric. Tell him, then stop doing it - at least the shopping. Make sure you have some basics - cereal, pasta - and let him see consequences of less choice because you didn't have time to shop.

FeakAndWeeble · 29/05/2012 22:18

Oi oi FioFio, I knew what an electric meter was.

I have had one, it was my nemesis Angry
